Welcome to the Caravan and Motorhome Club.

Ever since we came together as a group of outdoor enthusiasts 110 years ago, our Club has continued on a journey of discovery. It's time for us to make some changes for the better by redefining who we are to help you get the most of the great outdoors.

I’m sure you all have lots of questions, please post your feedback and queries in this thread.

What does our new logo mean? We created a video to explain how we created it:

As this thread approaches 100 pages it is interesting to note that many of the pages are filled by the same people making the same negative comments. In other words we do not have 100 pages of negative comments by Members but rather many many repeat posts by the same people making the same criticism.

Indicative perhaps of the depth of feeling the matter has created.

There is a saying in business, don't kick the sleeping dog (customers) if they wake up they can bite you where it hurts the most.

Trouble is it is not going to attract younger members as the barrier to entry (cost of a caravan or MH) is way beyond the means of many younger folk perhaps with a family and lets be honest, so many see a Caravan as an old hat for ancients (perhaps less so for a MH but look how much they cost) and re branding won't change perceptions no matter what the marketing company might claim. The Caravan club will never attract the young 'uns like the Camping club can.(and does)

If I'm right (time will tell) all this exercise will do is alienate loyal members and not really attract new entrants. Then the club will be in real financial trouble.

A very high risk strategy IMHO for little or no reward.

Agree the cost of caravans are high if buying new.  MH's by time you take into account a caravan and tow car probably only slightly higher but more attractive to younger people rather than towing, plus if its under 3,500kg no extra licence.

C&CC offer more tenting/camping areas so maybe they do get more younger members I cannot say, but if some of the older members here do leave its only a premature loss of income as they will die off anyway at some point.

Income does not come form the £48 a year fee its mostly from site fees, insurance and other add-on's they sell so a few hundred "disgusted of Milton Keynes" throwing in the towel is hardly going to hurt he coffers and lets be honest by time Easter comes it will all be forgotten, we wont be able to remember what the old logo looked like and we will  all be on site with a glass of wine enjoying the great outdoors admiring the view and the lovely new signage.....laughing

I doubt it Michael very much but I respect your opinion. Time will tell and if the re branding is reversed or the club fails I won't cut and paste this. .laughing

All the best. I have said all I want to for the time being

I think the Heading for this post is quite indicative. Starting off with 'same club' seems to me to highlight a concern that the club has that members might think there has been a take over.

Michael your estimations are very narrow. You need to put a value on the brand and the possible losses a change can make. McDonald's brand name is worth about £30billion. Do you think they would ever call themselves 'The Hamburger and Nuggets Company' to reflect the products they sell. No they value what the brand does for their business and so should the "Caravan" Club. What is a shame is that someone understands the the brand name value when they put the old logo on the envelope to try to ensure the letter was not treated as junk mail.

Posted on 23/02/2017 12:20

You are correct McD would never change its name but the club is branding to suit the clientele it gets i.e. around 50% of MH & Caravans.  I would suggest the Caravan Club brand is pretty worthless unlike Mcd's.

If you book a manovering "taster"at the show all the big signs at the club stand still say caravan club,is it to ensure they book with the right "company" rather than the new onewink

Have been on the clubs Chatsworth site from last week...first time I knew about the name change was earlier this week when the Warden put the new signage up...Told me there would be a letter waiting for me at home setting out the rationale...and there is. Not sure about the 1907 being included on the name change...although I wasn't around in 1907 I'm pretty confident Motorhomes ( Motor Caravans) didn't exist then..

Whilst your comments have some limited validity, they do not address the primary concern of many posting on this thread. Money is being wasted on an "ego" project that would be better spent in providing much needed additional sites and pitches.

No amount of flowery 'mission statements' and PR waffle will assuage that concern.

In my experience younger families are buying caravans rather than motorhomes but that's only 100% of my touring friends wink  They start out  looking at motorhomes but tend to go for the space caravans provide.

What they don't tend to do is join a club. Why would you?  There are sites everywhere that can be used without paying for membership.

I can see the name change attracting more 45+ motorhome owners which is good.

I wont be outside at Easter with a glass of wine enjoying the great outdoors although it's a nice sentiment.

Is it a club or a company ?

Are we members or customers ?

Sorry, I've looked at the video but to me it's just another meaningless and unremarkable logo. The colours are not exactly going to blend into the rural landscape if they replace the CC brand colour on all site signage. I take the point about including motor caravans so how long before another relaunch to include trailer tents, tents and pod users, or will they not be considered as important to the future new club? Better to have stayed with the recognised Caravan Club name rather than proceed towards the Caravan, Motorhome, Trailer-tenting, Tenting and Glamping Club.
