Perfect location for city break

After trying to book into this site for many many years we managed to get a cancellation this week at short notice. We have never done a city location before so although the location is perfect for York city centre it does feel a bit different to the rural sites we usually visit. As others have mentioned it is a busy site with caravans quite close and not a lot of greenery, having said that it is much better than I had imagined it would be and apart from the noise coming from the park next door there is nothing to complain about. Once thing to note - beware the park gates are locked at 9pm and we nearly got locked in. I have to disagree with the comments below as yes we were met on arrival by staff explaining the rules of the site but they do this on arrival at any site. We found the staff to be extremely friendly and welcoming. There is only one toilet block but it is larger than most and as usual spotless.

Nice location not so nice staff

Was looking forward to our fiirst time at York Rowntree Park for a Birthday retreat however this was brought to an end on first arrival after pulling up to the barrier we where greeted by one of the Wardens who asked us for our membership card and told us the site rules and I felt like a child being told off after we laughed off the strict instruction about lining our van with the peg he told us that he would make us move our caravan if we didn' t what was requested. I have always abided by the rules at every site that we have stayed at both club sites and non club sites but I felt that this member of staff may need an holiday himself and maybe return with better customer service skills. I cannot fault the clealiness of the site although the site is crammed with caravans and motorhomes and only one toilet block Great location for the centre and nearby facilities Unfortunately I wont be returning to York Roundtree

Somewhere to park the whilst enjoying York.

Our second visit to York Rountree Park. Many members love this site, but I find it hard to agree. It's popularity is reflected in its being rarely available. However, it is because the City of York has such a lot to offer that the site remains full. A gentle stroll into York city centre is hard to beat. It always feels like a car park, some pitches feel far too close to each other. The adjacent hotel being constructed does not help the ambience. Staying at the site is ok and no doubt we will stay again, but it must be considered somewhere to park the Motor home whilst enjoying York.

Does it really matter

Our second visit to york , location good . We arrived with friends who ended up at the other side of the site to where we were , but we thought no problem in the morning we will ask to move if any pitches become available before new members arrive.the next morning we noticed quite a few pitches became vacant so I called into the reception to ask if it would be possible to move pitch only to be told by the female site manager no does it really matter your friends are only over the other side it’s not far to walk , I was totally shocked I could not believe what I had just been told by this site manager, people skills comes to mind . Now for the serious matter , the next morning we were woken by a football being played and bounced up and down past motorhomes and caravans the time was 07.45 , we did not complain about this but the same evening from the same male who was 2 pitches away from ours was playing football again and the ball was hitting people’s motorhomes, we take pride in our possessions and particularly our motorhome , my husband went outside and told the boy that football is not allowed , within minutes his foul mouthed mother fuelled with drink came banging on our motorhome swearing and saying there are no signs saying you cannot play football , I told my husband to go and report the matter to the wardens and let them deal with it , he did this and the site manager told us that they had been advised to remove the signs that state no ball games. The next morning we were leaving early and was informed by our friends that someone had written in permanent black marker on the back of our £60,000 motorhome, I will not repeat what had been written but we were so so saddened by this , we went and alerted the site manager who asked had we not arrived with it on , he knew full well who had done it and so did we , what we should have really done was call the police but we had no proof. Well when the female site warden said to me does it really matter , well yes it really did matter because this would never have happened if we had moved and not been parked near some low life members , so what should have been a few days celebrating our friends 40th wedding anniversary turned out to be one of the most unpleasant stays on a caravan club site .

Lovely stay

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at Rowntree Park. This was our second visit to this site and we are already planning going back soon. The site is lovely and a short walk from York centre which is always really nice. The wardens are lovely, very friendly and helpful. We also thought the booking in system they use is excellent. Really looking forward to our next visit - hopefully soon.

Fantastic Site

Well what can I say, this site in my opinion is a cracking site, well laid out very spacious pitches, immaculate facilities and very quiet and the wardens and lovely and friendly. Perfect for exploring York as it’s only a 5/10 minutes walk by the side of the river into the shops and bars. It’s just perfect I can’t find 1 negative thing to say about the site. Highly recommend it.

location, location, but at a cost

A very busy site. All hardstanding and concrete roadways with excellent, well kept ,toilet block. its a very tight site and always full. The dog walk is in the park next door. Staff are excellent and it is spotlessly clean. Narrow roads to get to the location so adhere to the instructions about how to get to the site, they really help. You have to book well in advance to get the dates you want and it is not cheap, over £36 a night and strict rules about aligning your vehicle to the pegs (annoying) but you can walk to all the main sites in York. There needs to be another site close to the town with good bus access and the Club needs to take the lead in creating this. The constant moving on a full site makes it feel a bit like a factory but demand outstrips supply so everything is under pressure. its managed well but don't stay any longer than you need to. No cafe or restaurant on site but hundreds nearby and a 200yd walk gives you a good choice of local shops. Vans are very close, much closer than on other sites, and you can only sit out on concrete or stones. clearly the safety rules are different here (in relation to fire). We had no criticism of the site management which was helpful and on top of things, even on a full site, though the toilet closure time (10.15 to 11.15) for cleaning was not convenient for us.

Recent Stay

Having forgot about our booking as I booked so far in advance as just booked an available Saturday, we arrived to a lovely new warden who let us in the barrier and said pitch up and come back to pay. When I went to pay got a bit of a shock at £36.60 for one night, then realised it was peak time for Easter! Still a good price considering its in York centre but I will be thinking carefully in the future what date I book!

Does what it says on the tin

OK this site is never going to win any beauty prizes because it’s actually a bit like a huge car park but don’t let that put you off. The real attraction of this site is the proximity to the centre of York. A two minute walk from your pitch and you’re right by the river. Ten minutes stroll on you’re in the heart of a city that people travel from all over the world to see. Facilities well up to standard and really friendly and helpful wardens.

Few days away.

Another good stay in York.Fast track into site to pick pitch then pay is a really good idea More sites should do the same. Busy .but still a choice of area, not too near park or building site. Toilet block could be warmer, but water hot so that's the main thing.TV booster didn't improve reception ,in fact better on van aerial.not that it mattered for only a few days. York busy as expected.Looking forward to next visit,
