This is one of our favourite sites, it is close to the city centre and to Bishy Road and Rowntree Park. This visit we also discovered the cafe in the park. On this visit we enjoyed drinking latte on the balcony of the cafe. It had an excellent selection of cakes. Thanks to the wardens for the attention to detail.

YORK weekend

Firstly I never book months or weeks in advance, so when I check late availability a week or two in advance, I nearly always get on. So if an awning pitch is available (and I never put an awning up just for a weekend ) then I take it. The extra room is a bonus. But if the warden was to ask me on arrival if I needed an awning pitch, I would be prepared to swap if someone did. As for the site , for me it’s a base for visiting York. It’s never going to win prizes for beautiful pitching areas. If I could make one suggestion it would be off at 12.00 and earliest arrival 13.00 like Chatsworth.

A wonderful weekend

My wife and I booked Rowntree Park for the weekend (fri-sun) as it was close to the city and the feedback we had received about the site were positive. We were not disappointed. Chris and Carol the wardens gave us such a warm welcome and were very informative and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and they were always there if needed. The site in our opinion was spotless (hedges neatly trimmed & the flower displays were beautiful) and our pitch was more than adequate in size for our VW camper and awning. We did understand there was work on a new hotel going on next door and had been for a while, yet it did not distract from our break at all. The club or wardens can have no control on works taking place nearby no more than they can influence the river traffic activity or the lovely park next door with the sound of families enjoying their local facilities. I cannot comment on the clubs wifi as we did not use it. There is very good mobile phone network coverage in the area and we were happy using that. Overall a great location, a fantastic weekend and wonderful staff. We will most certainly be coming back.

GREAT LOCATION BUT THATS WHERE IT ENDS

If this site was sited elsewhere it would be a 3/5 rating. Don't get me wrong the staff are fantastic but ......they have their work cut out.. Club wi fi is none existant!!!! Noise from the buildings being built alongside have been annoying for over the last 12 months. The site pitches are so cramped together and regulations on site are rediculous relating too them. Too many people are booking awning pitches and not putting them up! We counted 43!......please don't give me that old story that they may have decided not too (43?) And also saying they might be the only pitches available ! This leaves other members not able to put one up!.... This site will always be full because of its location ....but having booked for September 2020 for a birthday we have decided to cancel.........2 nights midweek £78.80! ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS !

Lovely site.

One of our favourite sites. The location is perfect for walking into York. Facilities are spotless and the wardens, especially Chris and Carol, we're particularly helpful. The only problem is getting a booking, it's so popular.

Another Great Stay.

Always nice to get in at short notice, need to keep checking website. Used 1st pitch that was free, okay for just a few days.Possibly needs branches etc picking up and holly at back of pitch was a bit of a problem plugging in.Don't bother with wasing up room as water isn't hot,but water at basins in toilet block hot!! don't understand that but never mind. York always busy.Good for a wander and to sit and people watch. Ready for return subject to space and health.

Tour de Yorkshire 2019 Phase 3

Our first time on this site, stayed 23rd to 28th August. Although very busy as we expected on a nice bank holiday, the site team kept everything running smoothly, from the very organised meet and greet by your vehicle at the barrier on arrival (busy times only I believe) to the upkeep of the site. The location to York is fantastic, a 10 minute stroll down the river and over the bridge and you are right in the centre for shopping, dining out or a casual tea time drink, Walk the opposite way down the river and you have a lovely park to have a picnic, feed the ducks or visit the cafe in, then you can carry on your walk a little further and over a steel bridge and back down the other side and into the centre or back to site. We will return the next time we want the choices for eating out that York as to offer.

Fantastic staff

We had made a mistake in our booking and the staff went out of their way to help. Many thanks to them. The site is in a fantastic location - 10 minutes easy walk to Clifford'sTower and the Castle Museum. The shower block is spotless. The lockable gate at the side of the site leads to a lovely choice of shops, cafes, bakers and a couple of pubs - all within a five minute stroll.

Just a grumble

We have visited this site numerous times and the selling point is the location. For visiting York it can’t be beaten if you want to avoid the hassle and cost of getting into the centre. The site is good enough although crammed in to maximise number of outfits and is not conducive to really relaxation. Of all the sites we visit though this one has the most inconsistent implementation of rules by the warden teams (not just the current ones). We were disturbed today as my partner has his van parked in the proper place to the left of the caravan and the tow car is where the awning should be - which we haven’t put up due to weather. The van is only here because my partner got stuck behind a serious accident on the way home from work so had to meet me at the site instead of home as planned. The actual website says extra cars are allowed, but we have just had an off hand warden tells us this isn’t allowed. It wasn’t a secret either - the other warden yesterday said it was fine. Meanwhile there are windbreaks all over the place on other pitches (not allowed according to rules), children playing ball games (not allowed according to the rules), outfits left without people staying (not allowed according to the rules), and all apparently unchecked. I have no issue complying with rules at all, but if you are enforcing them, then let’s have consistency across the board.

Great being so close to York

Stayed here for 3 nights at the beginning of July. Lovely site close to York. Our pitch was right next to the toilet block which was handy. Having keys for the toilet block is not so handy when there is 3 of you. Codes are better just being able to go whenever without codes and keys would be even better. Found the staff not that friendly which was a shame maybe they were having a few off days but it would't put me off staying again as it was lovely just to park up and walk in to York. Also great place for cycling and running. Great idea having a key for the gate at the back to walk up to a lovely little street with some great shops. Don't use the Sat nav to find the site as we ended up down a street with nowhere to turn and my husband had to reverse all the way back up. Hopefully we will be back next year.
