Great stay, even with the flooding!

Super efforts by staff, we had traveled from Slough and they called to let us know that there was a likelihood of minor flooding. Kept us informed and we decided to stay anyway. Arriving was busy due to the flooding issues and I managed to lock us out the our Motor-home, staff helped and we were back in quickly. All facilities were very clean, my only criticism would be no music in showers and using keys to gt in the shower blocks was a bit of a pain. Also understand that with proximity to the river towpath, issue of non-members using toilets etc has been an issue. All in all a really great stay with such convenient access to York and its attractions.

Great location for visiting York.

Excellent site for visiting York. Easy walking distance to all tourist attractions. Will definitely stay again. Easy to see why this site is booked up every weekend. Usual cc high standards.

Great location

We visited this site, last weekend 16/17 March 2019 and I have to say the location is excellent. Access to the site is a little tight. It didn't bother us, as we only have a small camper, but I would imagine those with large touring rigs could struggle, especially as the site is so popular. Rowntree is set up in similar fashion to all CC sites, with spotless facilities, and excellent friendly staff. However, this sites popularity must come from its position. Easy walking distance into the city including the Minster and the Shambles. Loads of pubs and restaurants to choose from, and you are right on the banks of the river. That said, the site is liable to flooding. If you fancy a stay in York, this site is ideal. Book very early. Robert.

Rowntree park top site

Recently back from this wonderful site. Now we know why it has taken years to be able to book a pitch! Excellent site in a great location, easy walk into York city centre, with all it's attractions. Another easy walk along the river and into Rowntree park. Out of the rear gate to a parade of shops including a small Sainsbury's supermarket and a highiy recommended 'Fishermans Wife's fish and chip shop with cafe! Good facilities and very friendly efficient warden's. We can highly recommend this site

A midweek return visit

This is our third visit to this site, delayed because of Environment Agency works on flood monitoring which we heard about a couple of weeks before arrival. We organised an alternative night elsewhere and arrived lunchtime on the Monday. The wardens were brilliant in getting onsite immediately to avoid a long queue with all vans arriving at an empty site. Despite a flood threat with the possibly of having to evacuate we did not need to because river levels kept below the bank. This is an excellent site and access to the town is easy. It's a brisk 20 minute walk to the railway museum and about the same to the Minster so it is conveniently placed. Regretfully its popularity means that trying to book a whole week is virtually impossible. Midweek is the best bet. Also site costs are always high for us because we have a grown up (and ill) daughter who always comes with us. Rejigging the handbook to show pitch fee and one adult reflects the sensitivity of the Club towards the ever increasing prices. There are not many solo tourers so I think the handbook would be more realistic reverting back to pitch plus two adults and in many places pitch plus two adults and two children. And also the highes price you will pay not lowest. Now that would show up true costs espiecally now that pricing has been removed from the handbook for each pricing band. We shall try to come back for a week. Here's hoping!

Great site to explore York

We have stayed on this site in our motorhome twice in 2 months. The site is only a 10 minute walk away to explore all the attractions in York. We love the Shambles and the Shambles Market and all the unusual alleys to wander down. Great restaurants, cafes for eating out. The site is next to the River Ouse with a lovely walk from the site taking in the Millennium Bridge. We found the site facilities to be lovely and clean and the wardens were welcoming and friendly. Ideal site for motorhomers who just want to park up and walk into the city centre.

Never again

This was the most difficult site we have had to find. Once we finally found it it was a shock to see reception, toilets and showers etc built up high! The site is next to the river and near the centre of York but looked ominous. A very busy site, it was half term, but not many loos/showers for the size of the site. There is a lot of building work going on next to this site, several storey high apartments which will look down onto people staying there. I so onetime on the cleanliness of the facilities as despite there being ramp access as well as stairs to reach them they always seemed to be people queuing I couldn’t cress them. Pitches were not very large and they felt closed in. All in all, despite close proximity to major attractions in York this is not a site we will be revisiting.

Good base for York tourist attractions

If you are looking for a short break to visit the tourist attractions in central York this site makes a good base. You can leave the car and walk/cycle for miles. It is rather like camping in a glorified car park, however people looking for a more rural setting will, hopefully have the sense to look elsewhere. Trying to get out of the centre of York to venture further afield takes forever. And if you are thinking of going east on the A64, be prepared for long delays. Manoeuvring a caravan onto some of the pitches can be challenging. (Not all caravanners choose to have motor movers fitted). The fact that many of the pitches do not follow the more common practise of parking cars on the opposite side of the van to the awning adds to the problems. Units backing onto each other are, at least separated by a low hedge. However, sitting outside, staring at the back of a motor home less than 3m away is not everyone’s cup of tea. Booking a pitch can also also a problem. Like many ‘popular’ sites, weekends are booked up months in advance so anyone looking for a longer stay has little chance of success. At the time of writing there were no weekend pitches available at all. If you do decide to come here pick your arrival time and day carefully. Departures have to be no later than 11.15 to try to avoid congestion on the narrow approach road. But if too many vans arrive at the same time and anyone is trying to go in the opposite direction (there is a public car park next to the site), it’s chaos

Excellent site

We visited this site for the second time in less than 3 months which is unusual for us. We find the site to be an excellent location as motorhomers. We could walk to the city and all the tourist attractions with ease. It is also easy to drive out from, although with the road works on the ring road, we should have driven direct to the A64 via the A19 when we drove to Eden Camp. There are lots of places to visit in the city, all were open even in early February. There are also many places to suit all budgets to eat and drink at. The site is very well kept. The facilities were always spotless and we never queued for a shower!! The building work did not cause any disturbance to us.

Warm Welcome Great Location

Everything up to the high standard we have come to expect from the club. A great location for visiting York - just a few minutes walk into the city centre. Not much space between pitches so seems a little more cramped than other club sites, but you are in a city after all and I guess like us most people will be off site enjoying the local attractions most of the time. There seems to be no dog walking area so we enjoyed the spectacle of a nearby member calmly using our pitch in front of our door as her dog toilet! She did pick up but not the point. Could I suggest that the key drop off box is down by the gate rather than up by reception to facilitate quicker departure? Howver, all in all a great place an will visit again if we can get in of course.
