Great site

First time we've managed to get on this excellent site.. Always wanted to try but never got the chance due to it being booked up every weekend.. I can see why this happens now due to selfish folk that prebook months in advance taking all the weekends up to pick and choose which ones they want then not cancel the ones they don't want to turn up on leaving lots of empty pitches.. The wardens had to ring around chasing them up Friday because they hadn't come.. Should be banned from booking there again to be honest.. Hard enough to get a pitch there as it is..Definitely want to return here again with it being so close to town.. And facilities are great.. The arm band system would work well if people remembered to take their band with them when they vacate the facilities.. 4 allowed in if 2 forget to take it then their 2 bands are hanging on the hooks making those stood queueing outside believing there are 4 in there when there are only 2..Times are crazy so we all need to be on the same hymn sheet.. I wouldn't mind but there's a sign on the inside of the door reminding you to take the band with you on leaving.

Wonderful, perfectly located site

Brilliant site, perfect location, everything within walking distance. Stayed here a couple of times, staff are really professional and friendly. The disabled facility is 2nd to none, excellent size, a chair for undressing on and handrails everywhere, the best we have come across. Will be coming back here again and again

Great location

Situated right next to the river it is only a few hundred yards into the centre of York. Should you fancy a longer walk turn right out of the site cross the millennium bridge and go into York on the other side of the river. There's a nice selection of small shops, cafés, fish and chips and a Sainsbury's local on one side and a pleasant park to relax in and for the kids on the other. The staff are very friendly and the pitches are a generous size and well spaced.

Fantastic location and site, well worth a visit...

From arriving at the site to see 2 members of staff at the barrier guiding us onto the site, to leaving after 5 days I must say that this was a great place to stay. While I'm keen on hardstanding pitches (unless it's winter) I have to say the hedged enclosures for each pitch is a great idea as it gives you privacy and what I believe is a much bigger overall pitch to enjoy. I thought the wrist band arrangement for the bathrooms was a much better system than the one we experienced down at Ferry meadows i.e. 4 hooks for to hand your wrist band on (if there are 4 on the hooks it simply means wait until someone exists) The wardens were super helpful and good natured, the site it's self was immaculate and lovely and quiet compared to some others where we've experienced being woken up at 8am to the sound of wardens machinery. Location wise this makes for both the perfect city break and country walks as both are just minuets from the site. All in all well worth a trip if you haven't been to York, we highly recommend this site :)

An excellent first time in the motorhome since lockdown

I’ve been a bit nervous about going in the motorhome since lockdown and deliberately waited until I’d read plenty of reviews of CAMC sites and got the sense that things were being made as safe as possible. I then waited until two nights became available at Rowntree Park as I know the site from previous visits. On arrival the welcome was excellent - efficient, friendly and informative - as was booking in at Reception once I’d chosen my pitch. I do like the pitches surrounded by hedges as they give a sense of privacy, which is always nice, but particularly in these strange times. I decided to use the onboard facilities, so I can’t comment on the washrooms / toilets and how the wristband system worked, but it seemed to be working all right and I didn’t see any huge queues, as reported on some sites. I think this is an excellent site. It’s close to the middle of York so within walking distance for most people. It’s right on a cycle route so it’s possible to get out of the city on a traffic-free route - I’m an experienced cyclist but still appreciate this, but it would be a real boon for families with small children. I find some of the comments in other reviews rather strange. While we all have our own experiences and opinions, to see two people commenting about arrival time is odd as it’s quite clear in the information that one o’clock is the earliest arrival time. Similarly a comment about sat nav sending someone down the wrong street may be a valid warning, but it is clear in the instructions that’s there’s one particular route to use to approach - certainly if you’ve never been here before. An excellent short stay, and I now feel much more confident about heading away in the motorhome again. Thank you to the staff at Rowntree Park.

Shame about the reception on arrival!

We don't do many reviews, but.... Many visits to York site in the past. We have experience mixed moods from the wardens over the years. Upon arrival the very polite gents explained to my husband the protocol on pitching and facilities with COVID. Great service. But I was out of the van and approaching reception at this time as I would always do on arrival to any site. The Lady's in reception greeted me with abrupt rudeness and total lack of any respect. Somehow I was to know the changed protocol on arrival. With this I kept tight lipped and returned to van and moved on to the pitch. On departure and returning site keys/barrier cards the lady were on form as the previous day. Again I was expected to know what they wanted & what they were thinking! I approached the reception door, one of the lady wardens had her back to me and wouldn't turn around to acknowledge me, Due to this I was unaware there was another lady customer in reception returning keys. I waited to be greeted with a gruff response and finger waving to drop keys and bands THERE with a pointing finger. Disgraceful. The lady in reception after dropping off her keys looked at me with and said she couldn't believe the wardens response.... River walks are great as usual. We didn't hire a boat as it was bit nippy this time we visited. Great site in a great city, shame about the reception I received as we will think very carefully about returning again......

Review

Our first time at the campsite & our first time at a club site. We stayed for 1 night just to try out our campervan. Found eveything from booking online to checking in at the campsite very easy. Arrived a couple of hours to early to check in. We was pointed in the direction of a near by car park. So managed a walk up the river to a pub. Was a lot closer to the center than we thought it would be. Dont know if all club campsites are late check in but you feel like you have lost 1/2 day. Great campsite, very clean & nice friendly staff. Would recommend.

First Visit

An excellent site that we have waited years to visit!. Pitches seem to be booked very early, particularly for weekends, and it is almost impossible to book just a few weeks in advance! Fortunately we got a last minute cancellation. We were not disappointed, spending 4 nights in August in our motorhome. York city is an easy walk along the canal, and Rowntree Park was a lovely venue to meet up with family and the cafe facilities were good. Shopping was a short walk away at Sainsbury. The weather was hot so we enjoyed relaxing on the campsite and in the park. All in all a lovely break and we will certainly try to book again.

Check time of arrival

Had chance to visit this not so busy site but the email sent told me to arrive on site between 12 and 1400 hrs.But on arrival at 12:15 told by warden that would not be allowing on site till 1300 hrs. With this I then had to reverse off the site onto a single lane and find somewhere to park in city. Then on returning to site found that other campers had been allowed on and they informed me had been allowed to enter at 12:40 .I was annoyed then to add insult to injury all but one space was left and no choice but for me to take. After I had asked warden why couldn't email correct time he replied was busy and didn't have time and told me there were three emails going round but only one correct .But to say he was busy noticed time I stayed he spoke with guests most of time.So if you read this if like me please ask them what exact time you need to be there and don't take notice of emails you receive.York however a lovely place to visit including the railway museum.
