Almost Perfect

Being very new to caravans this is only our third visit to a caravan site. The first two in Hawick and Berwick upon Tweed were a lot cheaper than this site and had water and waste on tap. We found it a pain having to keep going for water and emptying the waste thing. We were not able to book a pitch so it is first come first served so don't leave arrival too late. Our pitch was overlooked by a large budget hotel, fortunately it did not block the Sun being to the North. Toilets and showers were excellent. The location is perfect for walking into York and in fact also to the York Racecourse. We would have picnicked at the racecourse for a day if not for Covid 19.The adjacent park and lake are lovely and there is a play area and skate park for kids. Lots of wildlive around the lake. The Yorkshire Air Museum is a short drive away and we even went to Flamborough Head, had great Fish and chips and then called in at Bridlington Harbour before returning home.. Access is very tricky and our Sat-Nav took us down a dead end street where I had to reverse and turn around. Could be very interesting to meet a caravan coming the other way. In Summary. + Location + Very Clean and Well Maintained + Easy access to York & The Racecourse + Plenty of interesting locations to visit nearby + Short walk to shops and restaurants + Great for Kids - Pricey - No water taps or drainage on each pitch - Overlooked by a large hotel - No bar or entertainment - Access could be tricky. Don't rely on Satellite Navigation. Would go again just for a day at the races.

convenient site for vsiting sites of York

Visited the site just after the floods of February/March 2020 and the staff had worked very hard to get it cleaned up. The site was immaculate and the facilities were some of the best I have used in the C&M club. I would recommend the Masons Arms pub only 10 minute walk from the site, food is restaurant quality at a reasonable price.

The site itself is great, the city is even better.

York Roundtree remains a flagship site. Although I still feel it looks like a car park, it is immaculately maintained, welcoming and frankly one of the best possible sites for York. The city provides a wealth of cultural and entertainment venues. The city walls, the Minster, the Shambles. The Van Gogh exhibition was on this weekend. The site itself is great, the city is even better. If you can you should pay a visit as soon as possible.

Great site for York

First time we have tried to book this site and managed to get in straight away. We have been told how lucky we were because it’s always fully booked, and we can see why. Perfect for York centre just a stones throw away and very quiet with local shops very near. Very busy site and also very quiet and clean. We will be returning soon I hope.

5 mph

My family and I have stayed on this site many times and hope to do so many more. What we cannot understand is just how fast some motorists are driving around the site. 5 mph means 5 mph, NOT 15 mph. It seems that caravanners are in such a rush to get off the site that they forget they have their caravan in tow. Motorhomers don’t seem to be in the same rush. I do remember reading that a tragic accident happened on this site a few years ago near one of the pedestrian links. This last week we were pitched next to one of the pedestrian links where speed humps are also in place. Numerous caravanners were literally doing emergency stops just before it because they were going so fast. In the hope of preventing further accidents can all visitors please respect the 5 mph site limit, or maybe a ridiculous number of extremely high speed humps can be installed at 20 metre intervals to prevent actually exceeding 5 mph.

York busy and rained every day,but still glad we went. Site busy and toilet block could be warmer. Hope for better walking and weather when next visiting in the spring.

when we arrived we were greeted by a very helpful and friendly warden taking time to explain the site. off we go and find a pitch to suit mind not many available due to site constantly busy once sorted go to reception and pay once again the wardens were a mind of information and very very polite and professional. site ideal for walk into city, Rountree park excellent to walk around with the dog. sit along the river bank and watch the world go by. highly recommend the fishermans wife chippy out the back gate and turn left at top of road. Can't wait until we return to this site

Wi-fi - What Wi-fi?

Everything about this site has been repeated many times in previous reviews. Nothing to add except the current wardens have been a great bonus and totally enhance everything that is good about visiting here. Well done them, lovely people. We haven’t come here to use the internet but everyone has a requirement to access the wider world for varying reasons. Therefore it is such a shame, and infuriating that Wi-fi is so appallingly bad, almost non existent especially in the evenings when most are back on site. For a paid service this is very poor and needs to be sorted. Similar clubs do not charge yet on the occasions I have used them have provided a better service. Come on CAMC your the best club out there, this needs sorting.

Good site for city visit

This site is right in the centre city so extremely convenient for walking into the city. Like most Caravan Club sites it’s run like clockwork which may make it a bit regimented for some. The pitches are all hard standing gravel , not a blade of grass in sight! Which in my opinion gives the impression of a large car park ( think motorhome aire) which is fine in bad weather but maybe not so appealing in the summer months . When we arrived we were told to find a pitch and report back to reception. After driving round it became clear that there were hardly any pitches available and eventually we found one in a unloved corner. I mentioned to reception the difficulty in finding a place and she suggested a nice corner pitch we had discounted as it was coned off. We took this pitch but what I don’t understand is this sites propensity to cone off pitches so that they’re not apparently available . Had I not commented would this better pitch have been offered? I think not. Each day we saw staff driving round coning off various pitches, why? Is it to reserve pitches for selected campers? NB they weren’t serviced pitches.

Very pleased to have stayed at York again

It is a great site...so close to York for walking into town. Thankfully no flooding while we were there. As a new runner it is close to York racing track for the Park Run although I wasn’t there on a Saturday morning so had to run it on my own! There is great scope for walking with a dog even though the park next door was closed while we were there. The pitches are a good size. The wardens are friendly and helpful. We managed to get 6 nights patiently watching the website 2/3 weeks in advance of our arrival. Thanks for another great stay.
