Brilliant location for visiting York. Walking distance to city centre and situated next to the River Ouse and a lovely park . Couldn’t be in a better position.Very helpful wardens. York is a fascinating city and the site is well positioned to enjoy all that it has to offer with ease , especially for motorhomers who want to walk or use public transport. Highly recommended . ( Really disappointing that some guests did not adhere to the COVID rules when using the facilities and ignored the band system to limit people in the loos and showers , the worst offenders were the older ones!!!!!! )
Have waited patiently to be able to stay here since it’s such a popular site and understandably so. We’ve had 3 nights here and every day has been spent exploring the streets of York, walking the city walls and strolling along the banks of the Ouse and Fosse - all because of the site’s excellent location. As you would expect, the site meets Caravan Club standards and the friendly and helpful Wardens have made sure everything is in place to keep everyone safe by following COVID protocols. The pitches are a great size and tastefully delineated by shrubbery. Shower block facilities as expected are spotless - no showers open at time of writing but just know that they’ll be great when they do open. We didn’t bring our bikes on this trip, thinking we wouldn’t need them - which we didn’t - but will do so when we next visit as there’s a myriad of cycle routes around the site and around the city. We will certainly return - it’s just a case of being well organised!
Second time we have stayed at this site. Close to the river and the centre of York. Well maintained site with pitches separated by bushes for privacy. Friendly, helpful staff and Covid restrictions adhered to. Will be back,
First visit to this site. Ideal for a visit to York (even with Covid limitations). Very helpful staff and of course an ideal location to walk into York centre. Facilities all up to date and well serviced and maintained. Will return
I arrived on Monday 3rd November, a short noticed booking prior to lockdown. Arrived around 1.45 p.m. and noticed the River was swollen. The site was quiet, tidy and toilets/showers very clean. I went for a walk around the beautiful park at the side of the site but could not walk along the far side of the River has it had flooded the path and was seeping up the roads. Arrived back on site around 4.15 p.m. to be told we had to all evacuate the site as the River would flood the site and the road would be closed off. This was a pain but obviously did not want to get stuck but I did not want to go home. The manager kindly booked me into Beechwood campsite so I didn't need to return home. The other couple of managers Christine and Col were very helpful and it was a pleasure to meet them. This site is brilliant for walking into York and I will be back.
It goes without saying that this site is 5 star ! But I’ve had a lot of stays at CMC sites spoiled by staff. Well apart from the obvious drawback with this team (they support Burnley!) I can say they are the most welcoming and friendly staff I’ve come in contact with.
Keep it up Guys
The site is well laid out and spacious pitches -so no problem with social distancing with fellow neighbors There is some noise from children playing in Rowntree Park next door if you happen to be on or around pitch numbers 12-18 which happens from 8.30am till dark beware! Also the pitches closer to the new Hotel catch more of the sun in the afternoon if its a sunny day Our key to the gate at the far end of the site was very hit and miss as to whether it worked or not For live music book a table at the Victoria Vaults a short 15 minute walk away on a Sunday afternoon We'v stayed four times on this site as it is an excellent location for walking into York will be back again next year Visit Rowntree Park next door for nice walks n cafe
First visit for 5 years, as good now as it was then. Being close to the city centre the last few miles are on busy roads with lots of junctions, bus/cycle lanes bollards etc. First timers would be recommended to virtually drive the approach on google earth or similar.
Some pitches on the tight side, especially length. Our 7.5m van just fitted.
Toilets shut from 10.00 for 2 hours and a maximum of 4 in each block meant some earlier morning showers to beat the queues.
Excellent location for the centre of York, with everything a 15 to 20 minute walk away. Highly recommended for a mini break.
First time on this site (and on a Club site-usually stay on CLs). It is a superb location for discovering York and for walks up and down the river. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful, the site is well cared for, clean and tidy. Showers, etc are good and plenty of hot water, however, they are closed for cleaning between 10 & 12 then again between 5 & 5.30. Cleaning and sanitizing is understood but the morning closure time is an issue and maybe some thought should be given to moving to 11 to 1 to alleviate the inevitable queues (especially with departure from site being 11)? Not on my own with these thoughts. Thanks for a lovely long weekend, will definitely return!
