Lovely site, friendly wardens and spotlessly clean.Pitches are a good size and in a great location for shops. The site was busy but we had absolutely no problems. Would recommend
Finally managed to get a pitch
This was our first visit as we have never been able to get a pitch before thats how popular it is. A bit of unusual way to get to a site due to the new flood defences being put in place. Signage was good so it was easy to find. Only a short walk into the center of York which is this sites main appeal. Once out the back gate there are some lovely cafes and restaurants which are worth a trip to. We were there when the races were on and will avoid this in the future. The site is clean and tidy and the wardens we spoke to really nice.
Rowntree park site issues
Just returned from Rowntree park a great site been many times and unlike most of the posts re availability we have always managed to get the week we want and never booked more than a couple of weeks in advance, there is though a few issues at the moment.
1. during the flood defence work the Roomzzz hotel guests are given a key to access the site back door this means a prosession of their hotel guests walking through the site some taking photos throughout the day, until the gate is locked to all yes even club members at 10 pm.
2. The Roomzzzz guest in the main are nice people but unfortunately on two of our 6 nights we were awoken at 4am by drunken people shouting, screaming etc on an external balcony which overlooks the site. The warden asked them to keep the noise down but recieved an abusive response.
The hotel management were contacted and they removed the said guests and have made changes to try and control theses issues.
The blocking off of the approach road to the hotel and site means there is a longer walk to get to the hotel or park this also affects the local youth who were seen hanging about the back gate hoping someone would let them in, again when the warden refused to let them in he was tthreatened.
The previous review mentioned the use of cones to reserve pitches for long vehicles, I do have some sympathy but on several occasions the cones were left, pitch was unoccupied and the cone removed the next day. This may have been a no show but surely a arrival time for such arrivals should obtained and if not arrived at or shortly after the time the pitch should revert back to first come first served.
Regimental but good 🤔
Been coming here for years and tbh an excellent site, cracking location. Great for couples & families. We've done both over the yrs and brill. However !! Despite great staff, there is an elemant of being REGIMENTAL. Its always been, arrive 12 onwards, but has changed to no earlier than 1300hrs. As coming for years, took for granted it was still 1200 and arrived 12 ish, being told its changed. Apologising made no difference, told to wait at the gate on the hottest day, with a dog in the car, remain with the car, engine off untill let in. (Along with 2 other rigs arriving ) WHY? Everybody went at 11.15 hrs so just let us on with a bollocking we made a mistake. NO ROOM FOR DISGRESSION ?
Secondly, whats with the resrving of pitches ? Supposed to be for very large units but many cones out leaving less choice, isnt it 1st come 1st served ?. Although I understand reserving for the disabled ect. I can understand a couple reserved but not around 6+ that I had seen. If big rig buy a smaller one 🤔. Wardens just chill and be a little more flexible. Otherwise efficient and friendly 👍

Best site we’ve stayed on
Excellent site in the centre of York. The best facilities in all the sites we’ve stayed on. Spotlessly clean showers and toilets and the band system was carefully and sensitively overseen by the wardens. Lovely local shops and restaurants without the need to go into the city centre (recommend the Fish and Chip shop!) Next door to the Rowntree park and by the river. We’ll be back!!!

Marvelous Location Friendly Staff
Stayed here for four nights in June 2021. The instructions on how to get there were straightforward (I suggest you use the Butcher Terrace Post Code for your Satnav). The ongoing Flood Prevention Works posed no problem. This site is in a fantastic location only 15 minutes from the City Centre. The site is clean and well maintained and the staff are friendly and very helpful, (what is there not to like?) I would highly recommend it.

Very enjoyable; looking forward to returning.
We spent one night here in June 2021; the revised instructions for how to reach it were clear and easy to follow. We found we knew the area fairly well, as our daughter had lived literally the other side of the wall for several years!
We didn't actually go into York from the site, as we used a Park'n'ride both days, but it seems to be very easy to get there. It is possible we will return in September, for two nights this time.
Not for me, but easy to understand why so popular.
We had a 2 night stay here last week The location is second to none, and even with the current diversion into the site, it was easy enough to follow. As expected it was very busy on arrival, which significantly reduces the choice of pitches available, hence we ended up having to pitch )pitch no.10) on the row which backs right onto Rowntree park. The pitches are surprisingly large, and separated by hedges which is nice for privacy either side. The road separating you from the pitch opposite is quite narrow, but the pitches are staggered so you are not looking straight at someone else! Unfortunately pitch 10, and the ones along that row, back onto the children's play area in Rowntree Park, which means constant noise from morning until it closes at 10pm....the young children playing is not an issue at all, but quite clearly older children use it later in the day, and it can get a bit loud. That said, the location of the site is the main reason for visiting here, and that does not disappoint. York is beautiful and there are many many things to see and do, and therefore understandable why the site is so very popular. Certainly for motorhomers, who do not wish to move their vehicle off site, this is one of the best locations there is.
Electric scooters on site
It was half term when we stayed at Rowntree Park site last week. It was busy (as usual). My main concern on this occasion was that there were quite a number of children riding round at speed on electric scooters - often against the one-way system. There is a 5mph limit on site and these scooters were obviously exceeding the limit. It is illegal to ride them on public roads or footpaths and while the site may be classed as private land it is used by members of the public. The Club must take action urgently to ban these dangerous vehicles before someone is seriously hurt. Also too many children ride their bikes against the one-way system too. There is a great playground in Rowntree Park next door to the site.
Glad to get away.
Followed revised directions okay.no choice and only just able to use rear doors.band system okay but some only need toilet and some showers.but can,t see any other way to do it.
REALLY Annoying that new arrivals let in before 1PM to avoid blocking road.i heard someone say they always get there early and hav,not had problem being let in.why should some people (like us ) bother following club rules.
It clearly says on booking confirmation.website and in handbook arrive after 1pm.rant over.
York busy as usual but always worth visiting.
