Visited The site last weekend. Nice site, we found the toilets and showers to be clean and tidy. As previous reviews say, ideal for visiting York. Park and ride only 2 minutes drive away, it's a shame there isn't a pedestrian route there ( or maybe there is?.). Would definitely use again when visiting York.
I can see lots have said how good the site was for them.
Location is great for York, but site is dated.
Toilet block is old but could still be clean. Mid week for all the site was half full only two showers open rest closed and one of them was full of mud. Disabled did not look like it had ever been cleaned.
The club has a lot of better sites.
Wardens were helpful.
Having had withdrawal symptoms from not using our 'van, we looked for somewhere to take the children for February half term. York is such a beautiful city with lots to do, and so we chose Beechwood Grange as our base.
Given the time of year and the amount of rain that part of the world has suffered in recent months, the site was immaculate!
2 mins drive away from Monks Cross shopping centre & park & ride into the City Centre, it really ideally located.
It is such a shame that the Jorvik centre won't be open until next year after being flooded at Christmas, but the Viking Festival they put on in the centre of the city was excellent.
Will definitely return.
Having visited Rowntree Park before I feel this site is 100% better.More spacious pitches much bigger site.10 mins walk to the toby carvery and bus stop. Please Caravan Club open early again next year for February half term.
First time we've been to Beechwood Grange site, normally go to Rowntree Park. It's a great site with nicely spaced pitches. The dog field is adequate to exercise even the most energetic dog, there are also plenty of walks nearby although all pets must be inside a vehicle entering and exiting the site due to being next to a stud farm. There is a lovely playground and separate field for kids to play in which was good. Although you are next to the busy A64 the traffic noise is not as bad as we expected, in fact it was more like a steady drone in the background and not as intrusive as it is at some other sites. Would definitely recommend Beechwood Grange and look forward to returning soon.
Called here in January as Rowntree was still closed.
It is a typical club site with excellent facilities, clean and tidy, and in a good location for trips out. Beware if you have no transport and want to walk the dogs as you are not allowed off the site with dogs, not on a lead or even carrying them, they must be inside a vehicle to travel on the access road which belongs to Horse Stud. Its a 15 minute walk along the road to a pub a Toby Jug. and a 10 minute car ride to the Monks Cross shopping centre, and park and ride, which we used to get us into York. Very easy to use and convenient easier than parking in York without the hassle of trying to find a car park and then wondering how many hours to put on the ticket. The Park and ride is free parking and the bus fare was £2.80 return.
The only criticism i have is to do the diabolical excuse they have for WIFI not a problem if you don't need it but just to get my email was a total pain, they said they are trying to block heavy content usage like Facebook, streaming movies etc. which is a good thing, but even the clubs own web pages were taking 5 minutes plus just to load up, this is very basic web browsing, and is a total disaster. I paid for wifi for the full year and it is not fit for purpose. It is not just this site as we had just come from Bridlington and the wifi there was just the same.
If the club can't supply a useable system then they should abandon it all together instead of upsetting club members by charging them for something that doesn't work.
Imagine buying a motorhome, and finding out they had put a lawn mower engine in it, thats what the club is doing, but hey they have charged you for it anyway
Like others we had re-located here because of flooding at the city centre Rowntree Site. Site was very nicely kept and shower blocks etc lovely, warm and clean. Friendly helpful staff. Nice large pitches, some separated with hedging. Used Coastliner buses into York centre. Bus stop a pleasant 1.2 mile walk from the site (£3 return) They ran approx every 20 mins and last bus back was at 11.25pm so a late night out in York possible. Would recommend.
We had booked Rowntree but due to the flooding we changed our booking to Beechwood, we weren't disappointed great site, we got cabs down to the city the CC have done a deal with Streamline Cabs £9.00 each way has there was four of us it was cheaper than the bus, one of the better Toby's about 10 minute walk away, site kept lovely as were the toilets and shower block all in all a superb weekend away.
This was a new experience for us and Beechwood Grange were really helpful in taking over our booking from a flooded Rowntree park in the city centre. The facilities were excellent, clean and inviting. Well lit at night helping towards a feeling of security. The staff were very welcoming and gave us some well needed advice on site basics. There were regular buses to the city about half a mile walk away and these were the very frequent and comfortable coastliners. We would use this site again.
