What a fab site - this was our first visit & wont be our last! Easy to find but watch out for the unmarked humps along the approach road past the static site. Lovely welcome from the smiling warden who was most helpful at all times. You can order daily papers at reception. Quite a few hardstanding pitches to choose from but none over the estuary. We picked one up a dead end alley so nice & quiet with no passing traffic. As usual with CAMC sites all neat & tidy. There is absolutely no problems with the toilet/shower facilities - spotlessly clean & no push button showers so lots of hot water flowing. I have no idea why some folks are grumbling about the sanitaires on this site?? The site overlooks the Dee estuary & you get fantastic sunsets from here. We took our bikes & enjoyed the cycle ride (about 2 miles) into West Kirby where there is a Weatherspoons pub! Then the other direction about 5 miles to Parkgate for a tasty ice cream from Nicholls! All in all a great site.
A brilliant site and very well managed
Goodness, reading through the reviews before we arrived I was worrying that we were heading for some form of Canine Stalingrad.
However my dogs need not have worried. The friendly, professional wardens were friendly to both, and even to me as well. For dogs this site is actually brilliant. They can run their paws off just by crossing the road in front of the site and accessing the Wirral trail.
Yes there are rules, and the rules are for all of us, dog owners and everyone else and I am pleased the rules are there and mostly respected.
The site is exceptionally clean and well maintained and the managers very helpful. The location is brilliant. The little cafe 5 minutes down the road (turn right) is delightful if a little slow. The fish and chip van serves giant sized portions of chips. It was half-term week when we visited (still here) and lots of children and daytime noise (and why not, if I wanted an over 18 site then I would find one) but quiet at night.
In summary, a delightful site, and I still have one more night! Again thank you to the staff who manage it so well.
Autumn weekend
Always a favourite place for us to go and visit, even better for the dogs! Just a shame our neighbour let their dog poo on our pitch just prior to our departure,
Yes the shower/toilet block does need refurbishing, chipped floor tiles in the ladies shower is not good & dangerous for children. Amazingly though this old shower block is immaculate, a credit to the wardens.
Spoilt to know what to do first in this area, shop in Liverpool, Chester or the designer outlet at Cheshire Oaks or walk the dogs along The Wirral Way, enjoy the Dee Estuary or walk around the marine Lake at West Kirby.
Last but not least fantastic wardens!
One night only 20th October
We stayed for just the one night Saturday 20th October. Nearly 10 years since our last visit and we weren't disappointed. The wardens were very welcoming not many free pitches but we were on 56 which was great . Lovely area trip down memory lane for us and just as lovely as we remembered!! Went for a walk along the Wirral way and sat by camper early evening as we were very lucky with the weather!. Unlike earlier reviews so long as faclities are clean and working we are fine but then we dont go away for the toilet block!! Shame its closing soon as we would love to go back! We are so looking forward to going back in the new year!!! Many thanks!!
Nice Weekend away
The two of us plus our loyal Mutt stayed from Friday 12th to Sun 14th October 2018 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Cottage Loaf Pub is 25 minutes walk away, very welcoming, dog friendly and server real Ales (always a good thing).
The weather wasn't even as bad as expected, the nearby beach was great for letting the dog of the lead and playing with his ball and the Café next to the old railway station is definitely worth a visit.
The only disappointment was the social club (not on or connected to the site but a few hundred yards away) didn't allow dogs inside.
Will definitely go back to this site.
OCTOBER STAY
Stayed for two nights from 12th October 18, never stopped raining , pitch next to flooded & spilled over to our pitch & ruined awning carpet , informed wardens who where very helpfull. Apart from that lovely site with resident club house short walk away, highly recommend . Second stay here this year, have booked for March 19
Excellent site to explore both city and countryside
Don’t be put off from visiting this site by some of the earlier reviews. This is a pretty, well maintained site with lots to do in the surrounding areas. We found managers and assistant managers alike to be very friendly and helpful. The pitches are well set out and the toilet and shower facilities good and far exceeding my expectations having read some of the previous negative reviews – in fact, were those reviewers even in the same place as me! Give it a go, you won't be disappointed.

Some simple helpful info for walkers (things the site wardens didn't tell us)
1) The nearest working bus stops are a 45 minute uphill walk from the site and are located in Irby. Forget the 88a these are few and only run early and late. The 88 is supposed to be more regular but we never saw or used it. The 471 goes to Liverpool but takes about 1.5 hours.
2) The nearest train service runs from West Kirby. This is 2.7 miles from the site, reached by walking the old railway path on the Wirral Way. Excellent train service running about every 20 minutes all day. we are quite fit and it took 1 hour to reach West Kirby station on foot. The railway station is immediately adjacent to your Wirral Path exit point in West Kirby. (As is a rather good Wetherspoons!)Do not take the sea front option to West Kirby beach if you are in a hurry (Lovely to walk but longer).
3)There are two accesses to the beach from the site and both are about 5 minutes walk. Turn either right OR left on the ROAD outside the site.
4)Thurmanstan Information Centre is also 5 minutes walk from the site.

Terrific site
This is a terrific site. It is placed in the heart of the Country Park next to the Wirral Walk and lovely beaches.
Great for walking, cycling, sailing and excellent for dog walking!
Very picturesque site with superb views. Staff were excellent, helpful and friendly.
Toilet block was small but very clean.
Will definately be revisiting this site.
Lovely site
First time at this site me wife and St. Bernard (dog) site was a bit confusing to find as looked like was going onto static caravan site at first but when got there was very happy site is layer out very well we was on pitch 20 so had a nice view but also sheltered from strong winds by trees so awning was ok. Great place to go with dog or bikes as good walks. Site is tidy and well maintained toilets and showers very clean would recommend and we will be going again
