Nice Weekend away

The two of us plus our loyal Mutt stayed from Friday 12th to Sun 14th October 2018 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Cottage Loaf Pub is 25 minutes walk away, very welcoming, dog friendly and server real Ales (always a good thing). The weather wasn't even as bad as expected, the nearby beach was great for letting the dog of the lead and playing with his ball and the Café next to the old railway station is definitely worth a visit. The only disappointment was the social club (not on or connected to the site but a few hundred yards away) didn't allow dogs inside. Will definitely go back to this site.

Excellent site to explore both city and countryside

Don’t be put off from visiting this site by some of the earlier reviews. This is a pretty, well maintained site with lots to do in the surrounding areas. We found managers and assistant managers alike to be very friendly and helpful. The pitches are well set out and the toilet and shower facilities good and far exceeding my expectations having read some of the previous negative reviews – in fact, were those reviewers even in the same place as me! Give it a go, you won't be disappointed.

Some simple helpful info for walkers (things the site wardens didn't tell us)

1) The nearest working bus stops are a 45 minute uphill walk from the site and are located in Irby. Forget the 88a these are few and only run early and late. The 88 is supposed to be more regular but we never saw or used it. The 471 goes to Liverpool but takes about 1.5 hours. 2) The nearest train service runs from West Kirby. This is 2.7 miles from the site, reached by walking the old railway path on the Wirral Way. Excellent train service running about every 20 minutes all day. we are quite fit and it took 1 hour to reach West Kirby station on foot. The railway station is immediately adjacent to your Wirral Path exit point in West Kirby. (As is a rather good Wetherspoons!)Do not take the sea front option to West Kirby beach if you are in a hurry (Lovely to walk but longer). 3)There are two accesses to the beach from the site and both are about 5 minutes walk. Turn either right OR left on the ROAD outside the site. 4)Thurmanstan Information Centre is also 5 minutes walk from the site.

Terrific site

This is a terrific site. It is placed in the heart of the Country Park next to the Wirral Walk and lovely beaches. Great for walking, cycling, sailing and excellent for dog walking! Very picturesque site with superb views. Staff were excellent, helpful and friendly. Toilet block was small but very clean. Will definately be revisiting this site.

Lovely site

First time at this site me wife and St. Bernard (dog) site was a bit confusing to find as looked like was going onto static caravan site at first but when got there was very happy site is layer out very well we was on pitch 20 so had a nice view but also sheltered from strong winds by trees so awning was ok. Great place to go with dog or bikes as good walks. Site is tidy and well maintained toilets and showers very clean would recommend and we will be going again

Great campsite!

Anybody who complains about the facilities MUST live in palaces! This is my first ever campsite and facilities in my book were GREAT! The clue is in the name.. "campsite" and the price (I've paid mire for a filthy hovel in Kolkata (India) If your outfit is so luxurious that you would prefer to use them to the ones at the campsite then I recommend you do so... after all you probably spent £60,000 for it so you may as well get your moneys worth!...I must be terribly unobservant because I brought my dog and we both had a lovely time with only the occasional bark (my home has more dogs causing problems than the campsite )and I never noticed the negative signage! Nor experienced any negativity! I will be back!

First impressions

Nice site in a great location. Site not particularly dog friendly with signs up everywhere, if you don't want dogs then don't let them come! Our well behaved dogs did however enjoy their stay with the beach and walks only minutes away! Sadly toilet blocks in need of a revamp, not up to standard these days, we used our own facilities which is not really what we expected or paid for.

What a find!

After reading mixed reviews about this site we were not sure what to expect. All we can say is what a gem. Where on earth were the negative reviewers staying - it surely can’t have been here. From the wardens to the facilities the standards are superb. The site is beautifully laid out with plenty of space and light and is well tended by the lovely wardens. Now to the much criticised toilet block. We noted one reviewer stated it should be raised to the ground in view of its ‘old brown tiles’, dull mirrors, poor water pressure, wobbly toilets .......what nonsense. The facilities are as good as most other CMH sites and certainly a great deal better than some others we could mention. Please also note that dogs are also welcomed and on discussing this with thebwardens we discovered that, as usual, problems only arise when people do not scoop the poop! The Wirral is a fabulous area with lots of walks and tremendous views across the Dee to Wales. We would highly recommend the area and this site.

September 2018 - Great site but.....

Stayed at The Wirral Country Park Site for 7 nights last week. Staff were very friendly and could not have been more helpful when needed. They keep the site spotless. The location is superb, easy to get to and the views across the River Dee to North Wales were spectacular. However, for a site so large it was disappointing that my wife and I on more than one occasion found ourselves queuing to use the showers. Only four cubicles in each of the female/male bathrooms! For a site so large and so popular, it must surely be time to review, expand and rejuvenate the aging facilities.
