This could so easily be a five star site with a little investment

A nice site in a lovely part of the country. My main concern was the pumps for the toilet block were not adequate to cope with the amount of rainfall. After heavy rainfall the whole toilet block had to be closed to allow the pump to 'catch up' with the extra surface water. No problem using shower or toilet in the van but when there is nowhere to empty the toilet, this does become a concern. The whole toilet block is in need of modernisation but perhaps because of the possibility of coastal erosion there is not as much money being spent on this site as might otherwise have been spent. It is a shame because these are the only things which let an otherwise picturesque and peaceful site down. I would have given five stars overall and also for facilities if there hadn't been these problems. As it happens they did not spoil our stay there but I can see how the pump situation could have caused huge problems for people who found themselves with a full toilet cassette and nowhere to empty it, leaving them with no toilet facilities at all. If you are fortunate enough to bag a pitch overlooking the estuary the views are wonderful.

A Wet Week

We keep returning to this site as it is so convenient for Liverpool and Chester. The wardens are very friendly and welcoming working very hard to keep the site spotless. The toilet block is in need of a total refurbishment but is adequate as it is. It rained and rained, the site drainage is not good so areas were flooded. Everyone managed very well but a small area of pitches that has recently been refurbished still flooded, not sure how this can be remedied.

did not feel welcomed

staff did no welcome us friendly until we evidenced our membership. Many campers left after 12, but we had to wait in front if gate until 12. On pitch next of us a very loud group of young man arrived late (8 pm) , shouting an drinking beer until 3 am, site wardens did not stop them. Playground poor,, bad smell at toilet block, hardstanding pitches with lots if dust, will definetly not come back.

A week in May

A very nice stay at this site overlooking the river Dee, the walk along the beach adjacent to the site is a lovely way to spend a couple of hours. Visited West Kirby Hoylake and New Brighton. If you are planning a visit to Liverpool I would suggest you catch the train from Hoylake (free car parking) and alight a James Street station a few minutes walk and you are at the pier head terminal looking across the Mersey. I think the site would benefit from a revamped toilet block on this very busy and popular site.

Relaxing stay

We stayed here for a weekend in early May. The location was fantastic for us as we like to cycle and walk, with views of the river Dee ( or the estuary). the site was managed excellently. We walked to West Kirby and onto Hoylake with our dogs, and also into the wirral country park which offers great circular walks. We will be returning to complete the 38 mile circular cycle in the very near future.

A lovely site in a wonderful area

Our first visit to this site and while we like to visit new places, this is a site we'd both be happy to return to, next time with our bikes. Sally & Peter Staniland checked us in on arrival and were helpful and efficient; they set a friendly tone and we felt very welcome for our 9 night stay. We were lucky enough to find ourselves on probably the best pitch on the site (17) with the most fabulous view over the estuary. It was calming to just gaze over the water to the Welsh mountains. Such scenery! The facilities are clean (if only a little dated) and they and the site are diligently managed - as I expect with CC sites. No disappointments there! Location is wonderful for a rural and peaceful retreat. Listening to the birdsong and watching the rabbits playing across from our pitch was a joy. Walking and cycling from the site could not be easier and the trails go through some wonderful countryside and lovely villages along the Dee estuary. Flissys coffee shop is a ten minute walk from the site and does good cafe food and coffee. We were so pleasantly surprised with this site and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. I'd say it's a jewel in the CC network!

Best site ever for dog walking with a mobility scooter!

The only site I've stayed on thus far with adjacent dog walking which is also suitable for a mobility scooter.. the holy grail!! Staff very friendly and wardens couldn't do enough to help! Sorted me with a disabled friendly location close to disabled ablutions facilities (which were in themselves very warm and pleasant) I WILL be back (already booked for May!)

Nice Autumn Break

We stayed here for 3 nights the last week in October. The site is in a lovely location although the signage could be better to locate it, you need to go past the adjacent static caravan site along the access road pretty much to the end. Beware of the speed bumps as these aren't marked. The pitches are all nice and tidy but the access roads could do with a bit of TLC. Toilet blocks all clean and tidy and whilst could do with an update were fine. Site is 20 mins to Cheshire Oaks and 25 mins to Liverpool. Only shame is site was closing for the season on 5 November and we wanted to re-book for end of December. Will definitely be returning.

We will be back

Not long back from a four night stay at the site. Very convenient for getting into Liverpool, drive or cycle to West Kirby Station, or for motorhome parking, Hoylake Station. The site is in a great quiet location overlooking the Dee Estuary. Plenty of walking and cycling along the Wirral way which is next to the site entrance and it is an easy 15 minute walk to the beach an/or country park for wildlife and photography. The site facilities are neat and tidy, everything works and is well maintained, the wardens are helpful & friendly. Good motorhome service point too. Large supermarket in West Kirby for supplies and the cafe next to the country park is very good. We went to Liverpool, and Port Sunlight, but we will be going back with bikes for the country park.

Half term

We had a lovely time here during our half term, the kids loved the playground and the fact that we were so close to the beach, the staff were very helpful and friendly. Location is great for heading into Liverpool with a short drive to West Kirby for the train to catch the ferry. Lots to do in Liverpool and the Albert Docks are great fun. We found lots to do on the Wirral and headed up to New Brighton for crazy golf and an hour on the penny arcades, Port Sunlight was a great place to while away an hour or so as well. Lots of walking opportunities in the country park and running around on the beach was perfect after a long drive. Very easy to find and as you can tell we enjoyed ourselves.
