Wet but great

We stayed for 7 nights when the storms hit the country in June. The last time we visited this site was 1984! The pitches are large and well spaced with a nice light airy feel to the site . Loo block very modern and kept very clean. There is not a dog walk on site, you wander through pitches to the footpath/cycleway outside the site. This is not ideal. The Wardens are very friendly and gave us a nice warm welcome. Just a note of caution do not arrive before 12 as the lane to the site is narrow( we arrived after 13.00 in case you wondered) as you might meet somebody departing. The footpath/cycleway takes you all the way into Ilfracombe if you feel fit along the former Railway line.

It was ok

Stayed here in our Motorhome in May .Disappointed as there was no wifi available ,which you expect on a site like this. Also, there was no real control of children that were using the roadways in the site as a cycle track or skate board circuit. The large shower and toilet block were kept clean an tidy .There was a walk along the old railway line to a local pub.The site was busy when we were there so the pitches felt cramped. Some people were saving pitches until their friends/family arrived so limiting your choice of pitch.Overall, the site needs better policing .Wouldn't stay here again.

October Break

We wanted a few days away in October in our motorhome and this site was an excellent choice. We are walkers, so, the walk into Ilfracombe along the old railway line was great. Another day we walked the other way on the footpaths to Woolacombe. We also had great weather once the early morning mist cleared.

Great stay at beautiful site.

Lovely site with plenty of grassed space around generous shingle hardstanding pitches. Best facilities block at any Club Site seen so far and immaculately kept. Very helpful staff. We stayed for 3 nights in early October and the site way quite empty and very quiet. We are a retired couple with a motorhome and this was our first visit to the area. We like to be able to walk to places, take a bus or use our bikes. There is a cycle/footpath through a gate (key provided) and to the right would take you downhill to Ilfracombe, around 4 miles away. To the left on the path is a short walk till you reach roads. We didn’t cycle very far in either direction but the path is good. We took a 31 bus to Ilfracombe which we caught by walking on the cycle path to the right till we reached the road, turned left round a corner then crossed the road and waited on a short length of raised pavement about 50 yards right of the Fortesque Arms car park. On the way back we stayed on the bus as it went through Mortehoe and Woolacombe so we got a tour of the area for no extra charge. The second day we caught a 303 bus to Barnstaple from the same place, an interesting trip down very narrow lanes in places but a pretty drive. As the roads in the area are very narrow it isn’t safe to walk on them really so a car would be an easier way to see places. The wifi was good for email and surfing the web for bus timetables etc. In all we enjoyed our stay on a great site.

Good location

The road to the site has a narrow bend at the beginning but opens up 100 yards in. The site is level with a good mix of hard standing and grass pitches but level. We stayed at the lower end of the site away from the play area as we have teenage children. The pitches are of good size and most have an open area at the back which we used for table and chairs in the good weather. The site is close to Putborough beach but the roads are very narrow if you take the most direct route. I booked a week of surfing lessons with Nick surfing school at putsborough beach brilliant. The facilities well maintain and clean throughout our stay.

The Best Place in the World!

We have been visiting Willingcott Site for many years. Probably over 15 visits. We have to visit this place each year (sometimes 4 times) to replenish our batteries in the heart of the most beautiful coastal walks and scenery in the country. Other neighbouring coastal towns (Croyde, Mortehoe, Saunton Sands, Ilfracombe) are easily reached by foot. Our Dogs love every minute too. Not only great coastal walks for the active but also the amazing long beach at Woolacombe, that is Dog friendly all year round and is so big you can enjoy solitude with your pets. Who can swim and run freely further along from the main hub of the beach. To escape the masses, I recommend parking at Marine Drive and dropping straight down onto the beach. The Team/Staff at Willingcott are so lovely and welcome us back like old friends. Facilities always spotless. Quiet and relaxing for all to enjoy. Playpark for the kids to make holiday friends and enjoy the outdoors, ditching the tv or online games. Come here and enjoy! ...… BUT PLEASE LEAVE A PITCH FOR US :)

Holiday

An open, sunny site with gravel and, as usual, sloping grass pitches that can be difficult for those who prefer grass but are less able. The lane/road access needs care on entry as an unforgiving wall exists on the narrow entry off the main road. Also no club sign indicates club site presence. The fish and chip van on Saturday is highly recommended, best chips I've ever tasted including many 'restaurants'. Very busy holiday area, first/second week of July. And, very hot! Nb, members should pay more respect to the wardens cleanliness of the washing facilities.

Peaceful stay in a lovely location

Third stay on this lovely site. Scorching hot weather for the whole week we were there. Easy drive to woolacombe and ilfracombe. Mortehoe a bit more difficult on very narrow lane. When we arrived there weren’t many hardstandings left on the upper part of the site - we saw one (pitch 83) which had a cone on it. On asking the warden if we could use that pitch he replied “no” as it was allocated to a disabled member. OK that’s fine (I’m disabled myself by the way). However that pitch was still unoccupied when we left a week later so we could have used it. It used to be first come first served but not any more apparently. The warden also takes up a perfectly good hardstanding pitch near reception (133) with a caravan and a car - the car he uses regularly but as far as we could see no-one uses the van! Again what a waste of a decent pitch when there are plenty of grass pitches he could use to store his caravan. Other than that we had a lovely stay but with a sour taste in the mouth because of the pitch business.

Sunshine and a lovely break.

Having been so pleased with our first visit and to continue our walking in this lovely part of the county we were pleased that all those on site welcomed us and made us feel so at ease. This is a really wonderful site that shows that with such a clean and well cared for environment we will continue to visit again on our travels. We recommend this place for those that want a quiet time.

Had a good time

This was our first visit to this site which came highly recommended by a friend who visits regularly. Upon arrival met by a friendly female warden. The pitch we chose was grass with a slight slope,no big issue there. The toilet. / shower block was the best layout I’ve seen yet on a Club site (it ought to be replicated on all sites). The staff were very friendly and would take time out to have a chat and or assist where they could with any issues. The cleanliness and tidiness of the site as a whole was excellent. The big issue on this site is the download & upload speeds of the WiFi, they were poor. We try to get away from from the gadgets but they sometimes come in handy. There are some good walks to enjoy in the area as well as Woolacombe, Ilfracombe and Croyde Bay to visit and enjoy the beach and dunes. In Woolacombe there is paid on street parking as well as a number of car parks - check the prices first and don’t think the first one you see is the only one, travel further along the road. Whilst we were there a Kestrel perched on the power lines near the reception each day, it looked like it was having 40 winks - got some good photos. While on the Tarka Trail at Mortehoe saw several seals basking in the water at the bottom of the cliff face and others playing. And to top it off the site was peaceful.
