Looking a bit tired

Just returned from a week here. Glorious weather and as usual friendly wardens and good clean facilities. However, I agree with several reviewers. regarding the general appearance of the site. Unless your'e lucky enough to bag a hard-standing pitch, the grass one's are badly in need of cutting. Grass pitches were the only ones available when we arrived. Previously the weather may have been wet but during the week we were there it was certainly dry enough to cut. Grass around the caravans that appeared to be seasonal pitches was over a foot high. We did see the warden on the mower once but even when he'd passed it was difficult to see where the grass had been cut. Flower beds that had been planted out around the site at the beginning of the season were overgrown with weeds and the whole site looked neglected. A sharp contrast to the private site across the road which looked immaculate (like pitching on someone's lawn) maybe staff numbers are an issue, I don't know but overall - I don't think I would return and would look at other options in the area.

Late summer break

We were a bit apprehensive arriving at Willingcott given earlier reviews but we needn't have been worried. Our welcome was warm and informative. We were keen to have a hardstanding pitch as we have a large motorhome and were very pleased when we were given a choice of three to choose from. This was partly because several of the grass pitches had been affected by earlier rain. The toilet block was clean and warm and this site has decided to dispense with the wristband systems we have encountered at previous sites. If the facility you wanted to use was not available you just waited outside in a queue. This worked really well as it is a large building and we did not have to queue at all during our stay. We also did not see any people 'breaking the rules'. One thing we would have liked to have seen was hand sanitiser placed at the service points. There is a path and cycle route directly from the site and we walked into Woolacombe and Ilfracombe and also cycled on NCR 27 to Braunton and picked up the Tarka Trail along the River Taw into Barnstaple. As other reviewers have commented most routes are downhill from the site so expect uphill travel on the way back! We were blessed with lovely late summer sunshine and enjoyed days on Woolacombe and Croyde beaches. Both are superb and, although busy, it was not difficult to social distance. We enjoyed our stay.

Peaceful stay

Have been at Willingcott for the past week and are thoroughly enjoying our stay. The weather has been relatively kind to us enabling us to visit the nearby Woolacombe and Ilfracombe as well as Saunton Sands and Croyde beach. Woolacombe is quite a walk from the site and before our arrival they had experienced quite a bit of rain so the verges and grass walking down was muddy. The tarka trail runs behind the site And there is a gate to exit the site onto it. Once on the trail, the walk or cycle down to Ilfracombe is wonderful. We took our electric bikes and rode the tarmac’d path all the way. 90% of the way there is downhill which obviously means 90% is uphill coming back. Fortunately the electric took the strain. Saunton Sands is fantastic. Parking is £2.70 per 2 hrs and you can walk and walk and walk more along the golden sands which are flat stretch for mile after mile. We managed to get a pitch at the lower end of the caravan site which was less windy, as it can be very windy here, and being hard standing it meant that if it did rain we wouldn’t get muddy. Unfortunately a lot of the pitches on grass seemed to become muddy very quickly obviously owing to the previous weeks rain. The toilet block on site (just the one) is kept spotless and warm. We have experienced no Queues even though this COVID carry on continues! It is a nice site and reasonably placed for visiting nearby towns and attractions. We shall certainly return.

Summer Holiday Stay

Stayed for 1 week, had a good hard standing pitch but would of been aggrieved to have had to pitch up on the grass (very wet and overgrown). Facilities kept clean but unsure why the band system was dropped for the bank holiday weekend? Only our second caravan club site stay and enjoyed the location, with easy access to a number of excellent beach's.

Great Location

Just returned from a week at this site. The site itself is a lovely location to visit the North Devon coast. It is very clean and well maintained the site management are working hard to keep the site and facilities clean and tidy, something they do well despite the efforts of some who insist on undermining all their efforts but leaving empty alcohol bottles in toilets cubicles or generally not cleaning the facilities after make use of them. Given there are brushes provided it does make you wonder what home looks like! A major disappointment with our stay was the manner with which some totally ignored the Covid-19 restrictions. We all witnessed people, adults & children ignoring the requirements to hang a wristband on the hook often quoting, "they're using the showers, I wanted the toilet" it really does beggar belief! Having read some previous reviews I was very apprehensive. I needn't have been in regards of the site, the staff or anything in their control. The stay was only marred by the behaviour and attitude of the small minority and those teenagers, who for some reason are fascinated by hanging around a toilet block, in the evening. In short great clean site, well managed and good for dogs and families, afflicted by the same mindless individuals as anywhere else.

Had a great week.

Great location for visiting a variety of North Devon beaches and locations. Clean facilities, friendly staff and a thoroughly enjoyable week for 5 of us. Granted you may be disappointed if you can't get a hardstanding pitch but plenty of others appeared to prefer them. There are sensible measures in place to ensure good hygiene but we never had any issues getting access to facilities as a family of five. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and our thanks to the staff for making it enjoyable.

Not stopped but heard enough.....

Unusual review, we are due to stop in two weeks, so haven't actually stopped yet. Like others i have been concerned to read the recent reviews for this site, we are due to camp there for 10 nights in mid August. I contacted them yesterday about my concerns with the pitch location to the toilet block and to see what they had to say regards the recent reviews. I have to say their response was great, im not concerned anymore and felt the person i spoke to genuinely cared and was interested in my issues, so huge tick. Happy camper.

A lovely site and plenty of walks from the site

We have visited this site regularly and I'm disappointed to read some of the recent negative reviews about site staff and the way the site is run. The site is in a lovely location with plenty of walks from the site as well as a cycle path that can be accessed from the rear gate. The facilities are clean and well maintained. The site staff are working very hard to comply with the Covid-19 requirements - they are also very friendly and helpful. We visited at the beginning of July and found the Covid-19 restrictions to work well. The site was almost full and as we have a VW campervan we need to use site facilities, but we rarely had to queue even though there were only five people allowed in the toilets. We have just come back from a further weekend at this site and although the facilities still feel very safe we were dismayed at the attitude of some campers who disregard the Covid-19 restrictions. The wardens added two more hooks to allow more people in the facilities and avoid some of the queuing. Even so, we regularly saw people enter the facilities without leaving a wrist band as the hooks were full. Other families were seen to remove the tape from the dish washing sinks so more than one family unit could congregate in there. Social distancing seemed to be forgotten and I overheard someone saying 'Why all these restrictions as it's all over now and we're back to normal'. No it's not over, we're not back to normal and unless more care is taken by visitors to the site we will be back in lockdown and sites will close again. Thank you to the wardens for your hard work.

Weekend stay....

This was our 6th stop on a 'revised' trip due to COVID of our maiden voyage...... 16th -19th July Warm welcome on our arrival & MSP ideally situated before going onsite. Sites were varied in their procedures but we were pleased to see 5 people were allowed into shower blocks compared to all the others that were only allowing 3. Perhaps a 1-way system could have been in place, perhaps it has now! The club have requested that you use your own facilities where possible which we did or chose an appropriate time when facilities were quiet so I don't quite understand any complaints on this! We have quickly learnt that it is a 1st come, 1st served scenario to get a 'prime' pitch & have laughed at how some folk jump into another pitch before the previous occupants have even departed..... Admittedly, the grass sloping areas are not ideal for motorhomes but we are lifelong campers & know how to survive.... Used own 4G, signal was intermittent from where we were pitched No.75 Despite access being from a narrow road, it is stated in handbook, it is a pleasant spacious site. We had no need to interact with staff during our stay, although they seemed approachable. We would not rule out visiting again.

Disappointed.

Sadly this site is not up to CC standards. The grass was extremely long, the sanitizer dispenser at the back gate was empty for several days, no toilet paper. Maybe more staff were needed. The service points had no recycling and sanitizer. Lovely location great cycle ride to Ilfracombe and nice walking. Appreciate COVID19 is having an affect on the situation but they have had enough time to get things sorted.
