Geocaching Trip

Stayed a few days on this nice quiet site right next to the Tarka Trail. This well surfaced bike friendly path took us to the top of Ilfracombe not into it I might add as we looked at the Big slope down into the town and even with electric bikes turned around. All not lost as we stayed on this site to go Geocaching and the hides along the trail were fantastic , well wort doing and managed to get all we looked for that day. Some other rides did mean we went up some hills that we are sure was too tough for the Tour de France...Vive la Electricity... Friendly wardens and so were the other campers on site.

Credit to the wardens

We stayed early September & rate this site 100% for cleanliness, it's a peaceful well run site & a credit to the wardens, it's by far one of the best sites we've stayed at, it was full during our stay but the toilets & showers were always spotlessly clean & available, other members have commented on the narrow roads but hey this is Devon, we had no difficulty towing our 8mtr + Buccaneer to & from the site. The only down side we had & this was nothing to do with the C&M site was the expensive parking in Woolacombe it's geared up for surfing etc & £8 per day was an absolute rip off so we just avoided the resort, the views however are breath taking.

Lovely site

I stayed with my husband and dog here last week. The toilet and shower cubicles were clean, the showers were very warm and stayed on, unlike some where you need to keep pressing the button to have more water. The week we stayed there was gardening maintenance, the gardener was very friendly and clearly liked dogs. We had a lovely pitch, which is shown on the club site photo, overlooking the fields, close to the toilet and shower block. The site is on a slight hill which gives children the opportunity to go down the hill the wrong on the one way system very fast, we saw a few children come off their bikes and scooters and a lot of near misses with oncoming cars. There a dog pit stop area which is small so I walked my dog along the very quiet pathway that goes into Ilfracombe. The biggest issue we had was the roads going to Croyde and Putsborough beach, very narrow one lane roads with hardly any passing areas, we did attempt to go to Putsborough but the road was very busy with a lot of stalemate with the cars, so we spent our days at beautiful Ilfracombe, Woolacombe and Hele beach, there are a lot of rock pools at Ilfracombe beach, be careful with dogs that haven't got the greatest recall! We decided to come home two days early as our main reason we booked here was for Putsborough beach, I left a message on the office answer phone telling them we were leaving, within five minutes they contacted us and said we would get a one day refund as we were leaving early. Lovely site but will not be back due to the almost impossible roads around the site.

Disappointed

Out of all the club sites we have visited our first visit to Willingcott was somewhat disappointing. The whole site looked "tied" & unkempt. The grass & hedgerows had not been cut for quite a while, & the weeds were well established in the hardstanding areas. It desperately needs some TLC, which means spending some money on improvements. A walkway along the hedgerows would vastly improve access to the only toilet block, if we maintained the etiquette of not walking across pitches 10k steps would easily be achieved walking the winding roadways. Also less grass & muck would be left on the toilet & shower floors.

A great British beach holiday

We stayed in a motorhome for five nights with a tent and had a great time. The centre was clean and the wardens friendly and helpful, especially when we needed bolt cutters to remove a broken bike lock. The local bus service was just at the top of the road, but as there were four of us it was cheaper to travel by taxi - numbers are in the information room. It is a great walk/cycle down to Ilfracombe and good exercise climbing the hill back to the campsite. Woolacombe Beach was lovely and dog friendly. Marine Drive parking was expensive if only staying for a short time, but allowed fantastic views across the beach. Our only minor issue was a slight toilet smell - maybe it was just our pitch and maybe we were close to the septic tank. It didn't really affect our holiday as these things happen. I would also recommend taking an outside tap connector as these weren't provided.

Great location and facilities but....

Whilst the site was lovely, and the location was great. Our holiday was ruined by people playing ball games to close to our caravan after we were told on arrival no ball games allowed under any circumstances, loud music playing late into the evening on our neighbouring pitch after repeatedly asjed them to turn it down and people have 'relations' in the shower cubical next to my wife and 3 year old daughter. Site staff nowhere to be seen after 8pm at night. I would not recommend this site if your a young family looking for peace and quiet! If on the other hand your looking to be noisy, break rules and have some fun in a shower cubical then this is place for you!

Nicely maintained, but ….

This was a nice site, but a bit in the middle of nowhere. Woolacombe can only be reached down a narrow, very steep and very busy main road…. not to be contemplated on a bike (not even an ebike), and a very unpleasant walk (no pavements / verges). The bus is by far the best option, The cycle ride to Ilfracombe is much nicer - basically a traffic-free 4+ mile freewheel downhill on an old railway track. It’s a bit of a slog on the way back, though…. especially the first half mile or so climbing out of Ilfracome, which is VERY steep (put too much pressure on in low gear and your front wheel lifts off the ground 😳). The claim about “glimpses of Lundy” seems very far-fetched indeed - we couldn’t see the sea from anywhere on this site.

Nice Site, Terrible Weather

We stayed here for 2 nights late in June, arriving just after 4pm on the first day after a nightmare journey taking over 6 hours due to the closure of the M5 earlier in the day. As we were late, there weren’t many pitches left to choose from, so we had to take a grass pitch by a service point, which was quite uneven and we still couldn’t get level on the top section of the ramp. After setting up, I went off to explore a little with my dog, while my other half had a bit of a rest after a tough journey. We found the Fortescue arms about a 10 minute walk down the path, which runs off the site (turn right onto the path as you exit through the locked gate). I didn’t go inside, so can’t comment on it. There is another pub nearby, the New Inn, which can be reached down the country lanes. Again, we didn’t walk there as the lanes are very narrow and traffic relatively busy. On the Saturday night, the fish & chip van was on site. I can honestly say, some of the best fish & chips I’ve had in a while. Can recommend it. It’s all freshly cooked as you stand in the queue, so expect a bit of a wait. Overnight, we had horrendous weather, strong winds and torrential rain. I almost felt the motorhome sinking on the chocks as the ground became more sodden. The next morning, the weather was still quite windy with heavy showers. We set off to take the walk down into Woolacoombe but within 5 minutes, we were drenched and not happy to walk along the road with our dog. As it was Sunday and no bus service, we phoned a local taxi firm, who picked us up from the site within 10 minutes and took us into Woolacombe. The beach is massive and is dog friendly off to the left hand side of the little river that flows down onto the beach. Plenty of shops, cafes and bars in town. The shower and toilet block is large and clean, although a little disappointed that the whole block is closed for cleaning for 2 hours from 10am to 12noon, so gets busy in the morning, as everyone is trying to get there before it closes at 10. There is also no dog walk on site.

Very nice site BUT

This is a well kept site we were there in June and it was very busy which maybe the wardens are not used to at that time of year . The main issue I have is mainly Motorhomes leaving before dawn and I mean just after 4am , at least 4 out of our 7 nights was disturbed by this, are they leaving to get a front row on the beach who knows!. 1 was a caravan must have slammed there car door about 6 times . Then a seasonal pitch family turned up at about 10pm and put an awning up . Come on CAMC sort this out it’s not just about Motorhomes.

July stay

Booked here as we couldn’t do our normal trip to France and Spain…..good old British weather and we sat in rain. two days dry out of six so decided to leave two days early , and surprisingly the site called us on way home to find out why we left and we were refunded one of our nights (did not expect that) ……..site as you would expect very clean wardens lovely and helpful …if you want a trip to woolacombe be wary of the car park charge at £8.00 ok if you are staying the day but steep if you want to only stay an hour….quite a drive to the nearest supermarket to , that said nice location and easy access …..thank you willingcott 😊
