Peaceful location, spacious pitches, the hard standing pitches reasonable level. Helen and Paul were very welcoming. The Toilet/shower block are very clean and fresh, with laundry & washing up facilities. The information room was very helpful regarding local buses, local attraction etc. We walked to Woolacombe following public footpaths over fields on a sunny day, it was "stunning"
We had a van issue on arrival, Helen advised us of a local company, who came to site within the hour enabling us to continue our stay, paul also checked in with us later to ensure all still working. Paul & Helen seem to be working to update/improve the site and are very helpful. Thank you for a great stay.
Spent 4 nights at Willingcott during some horrendous Sept weather. The site itself is large (approx 140 pitches), and it did feel a little unwelcoming on arrival with a tarmac area outside reception. Wardens were OK and helpful, and we found a nice flat pitch at the top of the hill. The site is on a hill with a mixture of grass and hardstanding pitches, most of which were level. There is a modern central toilet block where a separate key is required for entry. Whilst they are shut for 2 hrs a day for cleaning, (am pretty sure this timescale is not required as many of the toilets and showers have been shut off and can't be used), there are toilets available while cleaning is in progress. We walked into Woolacombe on the Public Footpath and also to Mortehoe (nice pubs and cafes in both) and also took a bus to Ilfracombe. Went to the nearest pub, The Fortescue Arms and had a nice meal there too. I'm sure the stay would've been better if the sun had shined for longer!
Stayed for a week. Nice enough site, even though a slightly windy location.
Found out when pitching and unpacking that there were no ball games allowed on site at all (much to the disappointment of my well behaved 8 year old and his plastic ball). Even though there were no caravans behind us he still couldn't run around dribbling his football on the empty grass.
Key entry to the facilities was slightly frustrating. I understand locking them when there's a local festival or something similar, but not needed when it's a normal quiet week.
Bins not split for recycling. Everything sorted off site, but it's become human nature for people to try and separate cans/boxes/glass as soon as it's finished with, so it feels wrong throwing it all in the same bin with all the other non recyclable waste.
The entire toilet/shower block gets closed at 10:30 for 2 hours for cleaning. Most places close the men's and ladies separately and are back open after an hour.
Wouldn't rush back, not because of the site, but the area as a whole is disappointing. Traffic on narrow roads, ignorate drivers and extortionate parking charges have put me off a return visit.
CAMC 1pm arrival rule is rubbish and unnecessary. Some people turned up at 12 and were turned away. Observed Minimal site upkeep especially between 11 & 1. Caught tick in grass as not being cut much on day 2.
Really really annoyed that they reduced toilet and showers facilities from the bank holiday Monday when queues for toilets quite a few times as is the key to use facilities. Totally unnecessary.
Facilities were clean although reduced/limited.
Site is still good as far enough way from things but close enough just to travel for 5 mins.
Overall nice but things have changed this visit so a little disappointed.
A really lovely site.
Close to bus stops for ilfracombe and woolacombe down a safe path (old railway).
Very clean and well maintained site.
The site next door had very very loud entertainment until approx 11.30 on the Saturday evening. If you want quiet maybe ask for a pitch away from that.
Would use again but would select a pitch away from the neighbouring site
Lovely site in a nice location. Very quiet which is great for us as we leave our older children behind. Nice walk to Woolacombe beach which is beautiful. You can then get on the fabulous coastal path. I’ve seen other reviews recommending it for cycling but I would disagree. The roads are very narrow and very busy and I did not feel safe on them. I’ve cycled all over the UK and for me this was the least safe I’ve ever felt on my bike. Not sure I’d come back here but the site itself is lovely .
What a fantastic site! Straight onto the Tarka Trail with walks/cycle rides to Ilfracombe. Within walking distance to Woolacombe for the energetic, but bus stops just off the Tarka Trail path. Found a lovely pub just down the lane. The site itself has large, spacious pitches which are mostly level. The wardens are chatty and helpful, but do not intrude during your stay. Site is peaceful and quiet, and plenty of places to walk dogs off site. Facilities are outstanding and spotlessly clean. I would be happy to revisit again.
2 night stay easily arranged at the last minute in late June due to change of plan which required playpark for visiting grandchildren. The play area was enjoyed greatly and we enjoyed the peace and quiet but noted a strong breeze which may be a feature here considering the site is high and fairly level and a bit exposed on some pitches. Pick carefully if you seek shelter.
Toilet block was fine, well kept and clean with entry by pass key. Good idea but the site lacks security in terms of an entry barrier.
Plenty to see and do in N Devon with walks, cycling and beaches abounding.
Having given up our motorhome and CMC membership back in 2018 we're back......as caravanners this time.....and we'd not realised how much we'd missed it, particularly the CMC sites.
This one is only an hour and half away from home so great for long weekends.
The access road to the site can be a bit tight in places but OK if careful and courteous.
Lovely CMC welcome and good to be able to choose your own picth.
Great size pitches (we had hardstanding) and close to all facilities including shower block, water, bins, etc. Facilities were spotless at all times.
Love the walks from this site. 2 decent pubs within walking distance, the Tarka Trail down into Ilfracombe or walk down to Morthoe/Woolacombe. We also visited Ilfracombe twice in the car.
We just love the feel of CMC sites. It's good to be back.
This site is a pleasant surprise. Most club sites are trimmed and regimented, and although we all enjoy the smart appearance of such sites, Willingcott is different. They have taken on a rewilding project to present a far more natural enviroment. A series of ‘Devon Mounds’ are situated around the site abundant with wild meadow flowering. Hedges are kept natural to provide an envoriment for wildlife, and grass is not trimmed as short as other sites with some areas left longer, although the pitches are of course well kept. This provides a very natural feeling, and to be honest, should be copied on other sites. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the facilities are excellent as always. Location is handy for most of the usual attractions of North Devon with beaches close by, and the Tarka cycle trail running directly behind the site. Let’s see more of this as a policy across club sites please. We’ll be back!
