Lovely site, very clean, friendly wardens. Located by a lovely beach, sand, shingle and dunes so ideal for families, and/or dogs.
We used this site last year as a test run for our new motorhome as it is only a few miles from home, for that reason only we will probably not use the site again...but we would recommend it to anyone coming to explore our lovely East Anglian countryside.
short break
Great weekend weather hot. Site suffered from the smell coming from a local sewage treatment plant for a few hours.
Lovely sitw
First visit in our caravan, we had taken 3 children for a weekend break, the warden was really helpful and gave us a choice of plots, even walked around with us to make sure we were ok. It's a lovely site to the point where we will be going back. The walk to the lovely cafe/restaurant and the pub was not far and pleasant. Although the shower block over by the beach is dated and only a few showers we never had a problem with having to wait for showers. There is an new big block of showers on the big site. People were lovely and had a great time.
I do like to be beside the seaside
We booked the White House beach site for a week initially and ended up staying 21 nights which is the maximum allowed.
On arrival we were greeted by the very friendly and helpful warden. We were fortunate to have a choice of pitches as we arrived just after the half term break. We chose a lovely pitch overlooking the sea. Being on the beach side, there is easy access onto the foreshore and lovely walks for the dog.
Although the weather was not great, it was lovely to sit in the van looking out to sea and when the weather improved, it was glorious.
The site doesn’t have a clubhouse but it is only a few hundred yards along the promenade to The Sailors Home pub. They do great beer and very reasonable pub grub. They also have live music every weekend. We saw a pretty good blues band.
It is only a short drive to Southwold. We walked there one day, which took almost 3 hours with a strong headwind and not the easiest terrain.
A little further is Aldeburgh and Thorpeness. There was a free concert in the bandstand on the beach at Aldeburgh which was really good.
We really enjoyed our stay and were fortunate to have some lovely neighbours who were there for longer stays as well, so we built up quite a rapport.
The facilities were very clean and perfectly adequate although a little dated.
The only other thing to note is that the back row pitches on the beach side back onto the road so there is some traffic noise, although speed bumps mean that vehicles are going quite slowly and we were not aware of traffic overnight. This might be a bigger problem in the school holidays as the road leads to a very large static caravan park. If you think the traffic might bother you, it might be best to stay on the other side of the site which is nice but no sea view.
I’m sure we will return to this site again.
White House Beach
Not a lot I can add to my previous review but having read just about all the reviews so far I would like to make a couple of points. Kessingland was a small fishing village so the last part of the drive in is through narrow lane with houses both sides, this is not a problem if you obey the speed restrictions and have patience. The playground is small but perfectly formed and conforms to the latest safety thinking, our grandtwins were more than happy to play there. If you need a larger playground there is one 5 minutes walk into the village.
The beach area is ideal for the children to romp about but if you want a sandy beach go to Lowestoft, Gorleston or Yarmouth.
The beach area is great for wildlife, at the moment the skylarks are in abundance I got some good pics just 100 yards from the site. If there is an easterly wind blowing there is a possibility of all sort of rarities turning up. In September there is usually a Wryneck somewhere by the sluice.
Thanks to the hardworking, friendly wardens for looking after us and their lovely site
As described
Good site if you like an unspoiled beach and wild rugged coast line on your doorstep. no faults with the site as usual a very typical good MCC site. Perfect for dogs. Pub close by very, very welcoming and friendly local people with lots going on. Didn't eat but looked like reasonably priced pub grub Also, Waterfront restaurant next door looked nice too. Used bus to Southwold, bus stop not far, only issue lack of footpath for first part of route. Southwold a delightful seaside town with the Adnams brewery shop and cafe one highlight and the pier (FOC) another too. Cycled into Lowestoft which was a brilliant path apart from first narrow path section but then all along the cliffs and onto the promenade. Stopped at Jolly Sailors pub, lovely spot and views. Lowestoft as expected, not the prettiest town in the world but clean and tidy and obviously trying hard to attract visitors. The Thai Shack for lunch in the old part of the town was fabulous. A tip we missed until we were going home, the nearest shop is actually a Nisa on the caravan park just down the end of the road, right turn out of campsite otherwise the Coop is quiet a long walk away but doable on a bike.
Nice site well kept hard standing is hard
Spent a week here nice site well kept.
The play area for the kids is very small and only has a climbing frame on it, could do with a few more things.
The toilets and showers are of a very good standard, plenty of water and elsan points around site.
The hard standing plots are hard and you need rock pegs to peg out your awning.
The last bit to get to the site is down a very narrow
Road with a 90% bend at the end.
The only downside of the site is that if the wind is in the wrong direction you get a nasty wiff from the sewage farm located behind the site.
Lovely site and the best CMC wardens we've encountered
Our first time in Suffolk and this site met all our expectations. The shower and toilet block needs a refurb to bring it into line with many other CMC sites but its location is hard to better. The vast shingle beach is a minute's walk away and there is access to a nature reserve within twenty minutes walk.
We explored lots of the local area, Southwold, Dunwich, Beccles and a short trip to Lowestoft. The towns are nothing to shout about, being a bit isolated and/or run down, but the outskirts of Lowestoft clearly has a lot of investment going in. Beautiful rural landscapes abound. With an OS map great walks are easy to find from the site or with a short drive.
If it is peace and quiet you want, don't come while schools are out - barking dogs and shouty kids. It's a popular family holiday area. It is, however, the only site I have ever heard lions roaring at 4 in the morning, from the nearby Africa Alive attraction. Magical.
