Have stayed here before and enjoyed it. Very dated shower block - no doubt all will
be glad when it's updated in 2017.
Not very peaceful this time, as a test of fireworks from the Gamekeepers Inn was done at 10.00pm - this looks like a sign of things to come, as they are now licensed for weddings. I think it will become very noisy at weekends.
There was also a Rally on reserving loads of pitches - this should be highlighted when a booking is attempted.
Also, loud music could be heard from the Old Hall Inn in Threshfield - again after 10.00pm.
The site is clean and tidy, but the wardens seem a bit officious - my two small dogs jumped out of my car to go into the awning, just as a warden was passing -"they should be on a lead" was the comment from her frosty face!
My dogs are always on leads, but for 5 seconds they weren't as they were just getting out of the car.
If the probable noisy nights happen next year then this site may well become too loud for young families - we would certainly stop going.
Once again enjoyed our stay at Wharfedale one of our favourite sites, great to just walk from the site, still finding plenty of new walks round about. One thing that annoyed us on this visit was the RALLY taking place on the site, we did not get to know anything about it until we arrived, about half of the pitches had been reserved for them not leaving many to choose from. The RALLIERS also seemed unfriendly and on occasions there were groups of as many as twenty or more stood about talking seeing who could talk the loudest. Had we known about the Rally taking place we would not have booked I think the CC should make us aware of these rally's when booking. CC please take note.
Stayed for a week and absolutely masses to do with good walks from site and within 30 minutes by car.Bolton Abbey and Skipton Castle well worth a visit and Fountains Abbey although a bit further.
Shower block as already mentioned a bit dated and lacking in power but very clean and rubbish bins always cleared on a regular basis.
Main criticism would be lighting on walk to shower block at night. Also attitude of warden on arrival who wouldnt allow my wife, who was travelling sperately, in to choose our pitch.
I often wonder when people complain about the welcome and service they receive. Could it possibly be their attitude that influences how people respond? Anyway from our point of view the Warden / Assistant Warden and partners could not have been more helpful. This was our first trip in a new caravan after an absence of 20 plus years, so we were unsure of the 'rules' and 'regulations' We were given all the information and advice with a smile and willingness. Ok the site is not the most modern, but the refurbishment planned next year will rectify that I am sure. The facilities were clean and plenty of hot water for showering and washing up. The location is great from our point of view for walking and within close proximity to Grassington for places to eat and drink. We are fortunate to be going back again in two weeks time for 9 days
£20 plus per night and we were expecting something better than we got. Why are the wardens so miserable? We don't expect anyone to bow and scrape but a welcoming smile wouldn't come amiss. They both seemed to resent members being there. Their manner was high-handed, officious and arbitrary. Anyhow that apart
The location was marvellous so peaceful and quiet. Shame about the terrible shower block but I understand there a plans to replace them.
We've tried the Haven caravan sites via the CC this year and the difference in attitude of their staff is tremendous. Pleased to see you, smiling and so helpful.
I know where we will be going more next year.
This is a great site. Location and such are great. Only don points are : The shower block is in need of repair and updating. The wardens keep it clean but they can only do so much when it is wearing out. The site wifi is very poor; the warden I spoke with was, as other reviews have noted, a little abrupt and a firm rule enforcer - I would rather that than ignoring the rules but there are ways to do so without offending!
Friendly welcome from the wardens always appreciated after a journey, toilet block always clean. Visited Skipton, lots of individual shops and a very good market, Settle always worth a visit, we went to Kilnsey park just a couple of miles up the road, went on the nature trail and a great cafe. We had good weather and was able to sit outside a bonus at the end of September early October. WiFi was good like to keep in touch with grandchildren, we will be back in the future.
On arrival at the site the wardens were very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Yes, i agree some pitches are not 100% level but the site itself is well laid out with a play area for children and a lovely dog walk. The reception sells home made cream teas at a very reasonable price as well as the usual bits and pieces you may forget to take with you.
In the information hut there are numerous places to visit as the site is in a very picturesque part of North Yorkshire and well worth exploring the area. Grassington is a 30 min walk away and there is a detailed walk in the hut giving you directions. You find some quaint shops and cafe's as well as plenty of pubs.
We were only there from Friday evening to Sunday morning so didn't get a lot of time to really appreciate the area and explore hence the title of the review.
Cannot see the fascination for this site, despite being situated in such a lovely area, there,s no views, nothing to look at, typical caravan club site, packed in like sardines, any van window you look out of , front back ,sides, your looking into another van, site very busy, staff overwhelmed, compared to other sites we stay on , this was disappointing,,,
Our first visit to this site but it won't be our last. It's a lovely site in beautiful surroundings and if you like walking (as we do), you couldn't find yourself in a better place. We only stayed for the weekend (late Friday afternoon until Sunday morning) but managed to fit in an 11 mile circular walk to Malham Cove and Tarn on the Saturday which we (and our little dog) loved. Pitches aren't the most level you'll find and the toilet blocks, though spotless (as usual) are in need of a bit of a refurb. The Gamekeepers Inn in the adjacent leisure village sells an interesting range of beers. Can't comment on the food as we never ate there but it's Tripadvisor ratings are good. We're familiar with Grassington and paid it a brief visit late on Saturday afternoon. Even though it was close to closing time, this ever-popular village was still very busy and as most of the pubs don't start serving food until 6pm, we bought ourselves a meal to cook back at our caravan, leaving Grassington to the tourists.
