Heaven

All I can say is: Ditto all the reviews here. First visit some years ago when we had fun trying to get out up the hill in thick snow! Thoroughly enjoyed recent (warmer!) two-day stop in campervan, despite the rain. So green, views so enchanting. Then of course there's the Lakes.

Well located.

This site is very well located for both a stopover when heading North/South being just off the M74 near Penrith and also if you want to explore the Lakes. The site is extremely well maintained and the Wardens are friendly and helpful. We will definitely use this site again.

Easy access to the Northern Lakes

We have visited this site several times and it's one of our firm favorites.  Access to it from the A66 is really good and being situated between Penrith and Keswick it gives great access to Ullswsater and the Northern Lakes.  There is a small amount of forestry walking from the site but for the best walking head to Keswick and the Borrowdale Valley or to Glenriding at the head of Ullswater.  The site is really well kept and the wardens are friendly and helpful.  The toilet block is really clean and warm, the showers are now showing a bit of wear and tear, but are spacious with lots of hot water.  The pitches are a good size.  There's a drying room should you be caught out in one of the lake land showers. We will be back again next year.

Very nice site

Stayed here at the end of August for 5 nights, having stated the previous month for 6 nights. It is in a great location to easily explore all the North Lakes has to offer. The views of Blencathra and Great Mell Fell from the site are stunning, The site was very well maintained as were the toilet blocks which were very clean. The wardens were friendly and helpful. All in all you couldn't ask for more.

Lovely and peaceful

We spent 7 nights here and despite the fact it was during school holidays, it was quiet and peaceful. Wardens kept the site clean and tidy. The views, when it wasn't raining, were wonderful. Couldn't get on WiFi or use our mobile phones, just like the times before they were invented!! We will certainly use the site again if we are in the area.

Great site, ticks all the right boxes!

We had a long weekend at this site, our first visit here. On arrival, the wardens were very friendly and helpful. We decided to pitch next to the brook, which runs along the edge of the site, and we had a fantastic view of Great Mell Fell from our front window, and not far away, a great view of Blencathra! The facilities on site were spotlessly clean, with spacious showers and plenty of hot water.  On the weekend we stayed, the site was holding an open day on the saturday to raise money for Patterdale Mountain Rescue, a very good cause. There was a falconry display, bbq, classic tractors, Mountain Rescue display, quizzes, raffle and live music in the evening. On the following day, we found out we had won 3 of the main raffle prizes and a quiz, which was an added bonus to our stay - including a ride on an 'Argocat' 8 wheel drive multipurpose vehicle at the adjacent Rookin House Activity Centre, a pub meal voucher at the nearby Sportsmans Inn (great food!), and a box of chocolates! We shared the Argocat ride with some other holidaymakers from the site, as it was for up to 5 passengers and we all enjoyed the experience! All in all, an excellent site, very well run by very helpful wardens, clean & tidy facilities and in a superb location, with great views of the stunning Northern Lake District. We have already decided to come back next year for a week! John & Hilary

Troutbeck Head

Enjoyed a short break at Troutbeck Head at the end of August. The weather was variable but in no way spoiled our enjoyment of the English Lake District. This site is well organised, well run and the staff extremely helpful. The location is quiet with wonderful views of Blencathra. We will be back!

Excellent

Can't agree that the wardens were not friendly!  We found them to be lovely. Very helpful and waved when they passed.  Fixed our tv problem straight away. Lovely site, very easy to access and peaceful and quiet.  Our grandkids loved the table tennis and pool room and didn't even miss the wifi!!! Lovely for them to run free.  Easy to get to Keswick, Grasmere and all the nice places around.  Lots to do in Keswick on a rainy day.  On the way home, the kids said they loved that site and would like to go back
