First visit to Troutbeck

It was a very pleasant site. We stayed as a stopover on our way to Scotland. It was very convenient, fairly near the motorway and easy to find. Facilities were good and the shower block clean, the warden was friendly and helpful.  It would be a good position to enjoy the Lake District.

First visit to Troutbeck Head

Clean and well maintained site. Easily accessible and well located for the north lakes. A little isolated from public places but very peaceful. Staff pleasant but as we are very new to the caravaning or should I say motorhome game we could have received a little more direction and information about the location of facilities on site, location of dog walk, and the fact we would probably need to purchase an aerial booster cable in order for our tv to work. Would definitely return and next time having Sussex things out on this visit we would be readily prepared for our stay.

back after all these years

just spent 3 nights at Troutbeck after a very long absence (don't know why) in some of the worst weather the lakes can throw at you (new van first time out thank goodness everything worked). The site is great, spacious, clean, well looked after the shower blocks are clean and toasty warm, the wardens could not have been more helpfull and the views when it stopped raining were superb. We enjoyed the stay so we have booked for later in the year hopefully without the rain.

Needs updating

Have stayed here twice this year both times on a service pitch which I could recommend. Can't really complain about the site but yes does need updating which I am told will happen at the back end of this year. As a caravan site goes can't really complain however patchy mobile phone signal, not useful if you are trying to contact friends in the area and no Wi-Fi. It would appear from reading other reviews that our family is the only one to have had an issue with the wardens whom we did not find friendly or very helpful, if you arrive at the office at 5.40 needing gas it's not great to be told that you are "cutting it fine". We have been members for 20 years + and find this to be rude, however the choice is ours and we shall think carefully about returning to this particular site.

Nice Site

Stopped recently for 5 nights. Wardens very friendly and helpful. They keep the site neat and tidy. Facilities are kept clean and tidy but are dated (3 stars for being dated not lack of cleanliness). Not many showers etc for the size of the site. Lovely views from the site (the weather was kind during the day). Surprised site not full when we were there (school holidays) but could be due to nightly cost - quite expensive. Plenty to do in the surrounding area but all required driving, but no worse than other sites we have stayed on. Would we go again? Definitely.

one night stop over

booked last minute for 1 night on my way home from 2 weeks in the highlands I was returning 1 day early to avoid high winds and this was easy to book otherwise I would have been on a local CL. Access from the motorway is very easy as is access to the rest of the lake district, the staff on arrival were friendly and helpful, the site is quite large but well laid out so it is not so noticeable. the toilets and showers were clean and well kept, other people have commented on how the toilets/showers are dated and need refurbishing and whilst I agree that they are not as sparkly and modern as many other club sites I have visited they are definitely fit for purpose and before money is spent refurbishing them I hope they first sort out the only thing that lets this site down, The lack of WIFI! I know that a survey is supposed to be carried out this year but that is just feet dragging, in this day and age there is no excuse for not having wifi on such a large and popular site. will I be back?...Most definitely!!

Too expensive in school holidays

Superbly kept site as usual with friendly wardens who work very hard. Usual visit in May or Sept but with an invitation to a golden wedding celebration at Lyzzick house Under Skiddaw we booked into Troutbeck for 6 nights. We found the site much quieter than in May (except Sat night) and concluded this was possibly due to the much higher fees. We think £30 for site and 2 adults is excessive compared with out of high season - the site is quite remote - no where to go in an evening without driving into Keswick.

Wonderful Holiday

Just returned after nine fantastic days. Of course the weather lovely and such a bonus with only rainy day. We had a ride that day to Carlisle which was a first and well worth a visit. There were only service pitches left and we found it so convenient and even had a small paved terrace for the bbq. Sun arrived at 7am and didn't leave out pitch until 8pm. Sight is so easy to reach and midway between Keswick and Penrith. Such fabulous walking round here with beautiful scenery. Round of Buttermere or Loweswater, Derewentwater shore and so many more. All the roads are well kept although parking can be expensive with National Trust. So many activities in the area for all ages and it was so nice to see families heading of to one of the many lakes with canoes or boats. This was our third visit over the last few years and easily our most enjoyable as good weather here makes such a difference. Midges did bite late evening but otherwise ok. Showers etc. a bit dated but very clean with spacious shower cubicles and nice hot water. We will be returning.

Men

Great site, however a little too far for us as we like to walk into town and the midges!!! Site is one of the best cc sites I've stayed on and the service pitches are well worth it, but why do we position the drainage points higher than ground level??. Final note to all males. I would hate to see your toilets at home. The brush is there for a reason, use it!! It's not for the wardens to clean up your mess.
