We stayed on a serviced pitch up at the far end of the site near the exit gate to the dog walking path, and unfortunately the grass tip for the site, where the wardens had to tip all the grass cuttings, so many trips past the van each day with the tractor/grass cutter. The shower and toilet block were showing their age but were in very clean order. That said the site was close to a great pub, The Royal Hotel being one and the Troutbeck Inn another. Fly fishing on Ullswater was only a short ride away and at Pooley Bridge you can board the steamer for a trip around the lake. You can then enjoy a meal at the excellent cafe on your return. All in all a good site to be on with lots off things going on nearby.
October 2016 visit
We have visited this site many times and always enjoyed it. Two things spoilt it this time though. The shower blocks were very cold when I took a shower at 10pm and also when pitching the caravan which I have been doing for 20+ years by reversing the caravan with the car all with great success, I was told this time that I had parked a mere two feet too far to one side by one of the wardens.
His explanation was that it was due to fire risk which as somebody who is involved in health & safety at work I can fully appreciate. However the caravan was much much closer to the caravan on the opposite side of the road that it was to the caravan I needed to move two feet away from.
so I can only assume he had got out of the wrong side of the bed that morning!
Peaceful
Second time we have visited this site and found the facilities, location excellent. The wardens have been most helpfull both times even sorting some tape out for my leaking water hose. We tried the serviced pitch this time and could not fault it.Great area if you want to visit nearby lakeside resorts (Keswick, Ambleside etc) and also for walking, cycling. As newcomers to caravanning this year we have found the wardens here to be most helpful, informative and polite with nothing too much trouble. Both myself and my wife were well impressed.
Peach and Quiet
quite shocked to read that someone thought the wardens were surly and the facilities were not up to scratch. We have been there many times and seen the same wardens, you couldn't wish to meet more pleasant and helpful people. The facilities were immaculate, warm and pleasant smelling. A lovely site if you want to walk and just spend time chilling out. Not too far from other places. Try it out for yourself and don't believe everything you read. Keep it up ~Troutbeck Head, xx

EXCELLENT
We visited this site in October and found it to be excellent. The wardens had a very pleasant attitude to all visitors and always ready to give a helping hand. The toilet and shower blocks at this site is extremely well kept and hopefully if they are to be upgraded it would be good to keep the same layout as everyone is more than satisfied with them.
Great Lakes Location
We've stayed here 3 times in the past 2 months. It's a great location for visiting the Lake District. Only 10 minutes drive from the M6 then 5 minutes to the site off the A591. Great little games room, table tennis, pool table and TV with a selection of leaflets for things to do. Staff can be quite surly and 'jobs worth'. We booked a pitch without awning once and regretted it as it costs same with awning and far better selection than without. Great base though for all things Lake District and not far to Aira Force, Glenridding, Pooley Bridge and Keswick. Shower and Toilet blocks could do with an upgrade though.
Quick stay
When arriving at the site it looked beautiful. It was quite annoying to be told more than once how to park the car caravan awning when we are regular caravan club users and in fact told the lady we had just travelled from a club site that day and knew how to park yet we were told again the rules! The toilet block is run down and needs updating as does the smell of toilet in there. Apart from that a very enjoyable stay at a a very picturesque site. It was a shame that some of the pitches were blocked off for "maintenance" yet no maintenance was taking place and seasonal vans still parked there.
Troutbreck Tribulations
We really like this site and have visited several times this year. Great location for Sightseeing and some excellent eating options. Don't miss the Excellent Sportsman pub nearby!
Toilets are kept clean but are badly needing updating. Gents urinals have no flushing and CC needs to realise that economy flushing in WCs is counter productive. Small flushes yes... but 4/5 attempts does not equate to economy ! So, where's the water saving.
Also some staff training at reception would not go amiss. I have yet to receive a smile or friendly welcome from particular female member of staff. How off-putting!
However, this is an excellent site and well worth patronising.
Peace and quiet
Such a wonderful site with friendly staff, clean facilities and a great location, Keswick, Ullswater and lots of other places to visit within easy reach of the site; with the added bonus of the chippy van arriving just after us on the Friday evening. Not our first visit and We only stayed the weekend this time but we will be visiting again. Games room has a tv, pool and table tennis plus other games to keep the kids occupied.
Hidden Gem
An enjoyable stay at Troutbeck. Access is very good.
On this particular visit in September it was very busy and we did not get the opportunity to choose a pitch as there was only one available on arrival!
The toilet blocks we felt were rather cold compared to other Club sites we have stayed on. The toilet block at the bottom of the field was very cold and smelly.
This hasn't deterred us and we will be back.
Staff very welcoming and efficient. Thanks
