Fantastic refurbishment of site

Probably one of the best sites we've stayed on. Facilities spotless and great location for northern lakes. It's such a nice site I don't want to shout too much about it as it might get too popular and hard to book a pitch. We only stayed one night but it will definitely be our preferred stop for the northern lake district.

Great Site for Northern Lake District

Spent 8 days at this lovely site, very lucky the weather was perfect, hardly any rain and lovely sunny days. Facilities excellent and very clean, pitches well maintained and level but be aware dont park on the grass, fell foul of the warden who shall I say put me right !!! but that said they where very nice. Only downside was no wi-fi and poor mobile phone signal so if you are a Silver Surfer you might be a bit lost. Have a great time in a beautiful landscape which are breathtaking.

Professional wardens

Arrived for a two week stay. The re-development has been performed very well with smart new facilities. The site location allows many trips to be undertaken within a short time/distance. Sounds obvious, but walkers should do their homework with the appropriate maps and attire before venturing out on some of the Fells. Car parking is not easy unless you have an NT membership or are willing to feed meters. All the more reason to plan your day in what is probably one of the busiest national parks. As usual, the wardens were superb. When I succumbed to the virus which some other members had, because of my circumstances, I was advised to go to the Penrith walk-in facility. The Warden gave great advice and even leant us a disk for the parking. Without the medication from the centre I would not have been able to contemplate a long drive home. Many thanks to the Warden, she went above and beyond what was required. This site also has a great dog walk. Will definitely return.

Lovely quiet site

We stayed here en route to and from Scotland and we have used the site several times in the past. Friendly and welcoming staff, with easy access from the M6, the facilities are warm and clean and even the dish washing area was spotless. When we stayed, the site was pretty immaculate. Some lovely views if the weather is kind, but there is no WiFi which is disappointing when you have paid a years subscription. We will be back for sure!

Beautiful site beautiful facilities

Place and facilities beautiful. However having been there 27hrs into a 2 night stay a warden decided at 6pm to tell us we had set up incorrectly! 6pm at night the awning had to be taken down and caravan moved over by 3ft! Various other wardens had passed throughout the day with no issues! Walking round the site that night others had made the same set up error as us but got away with it! Better instructions upon arrival would be good! Not very useful on the back of a site map!

First time stay

A lovely 3 night stay at this site, first time we'd been and pitched with amazing views of Blencathra. The site is well kept and peaceful. The new facilities look amazing but practically there were issues. In the ladies there was a queue for the showers one morning at 8.30 am, this seemed odd as one of the cublices had been locked for some reason. The water pressure is poor and the mirrors were laughable, fine if you are 5'2 or shorter but at 5'10 I had to bob down to use them. Also there was nowhere to put your shower stuff/towels when using the hairdryer other than the floor !!! All in all though we would return. We thought the serviced pitch area wasn't as nice as the main site, yes it's closer to the dog walk but the views are limited and the pitches seemed a little unkept, weeds etc. Ideally placed for touring the northern lakes and I'm sure we will return.

Close to perfect

What a huge camping site this is. Nice welcome by experienced wardens who warned us for bad weather and some pitches that could be flooded. Fortunately the weather wasn't as bad as expected. Washing/shower/wc facilities are perfect, so is the location - close to M6 and very much in the Lake District. Good pubs/restaurants close by. Laundry is quite expensive. But no wifi ( I bought a years subscription) - and that is a lack, specially for such a modern camping site.

Wonderful site - why is it not full?

We stayed on this amazing site for a week in August on a superb serviced pitch (16). We had views of Blencathra in the distance, immaculate, quiet, surroundings and extremely friendly staff. As always, the toilet blocks are spotless and well maintained and the information area full of ideas and suggestions. The beck tumbles down the edge of the site and our dogs loved having a splash around in it. The dog walk from the back of the site accesses forestry land, the only drawback being there is little shade for quite a way (we set of on a sunny day!) A plea to some dog owners - please pick up the poo or don't have a dog! I suffer from insect bites but found no more of a problem than at home. There were traps (wasps I think) around the site and I believe they helped with the biters too. Although the site is not central to the Lake district the tourist hotspots of Ambleside and Grassmere are only a 30 minute, very scenic, drive away and we found plenty to occupy our time. The site is very accessible from the A1 and M6 and there are plenty of supermarkets 10 mins away in Penrith There were plenty of free pitches and we are at a loss as to why in the middle of the school holidays. The only thing I can think of is that the lack of WiFi puts people off. The fees are also more expensive than other sites we have used but they were worth it. The phone signal is strong and we took advantage of the tv signal booster. Also, Fish and Chip van arrives on a Tuesday and Friday - great! All in all we had a wonderful week. We visited Maryport and Allonby on the coast; Whinlatter Forest Park, Aira Force, Pooley Bridge and best of all, Crummock Water via Lanthwaite wood.

great site

stayed here for 1 night returning from Scotland, it was my first visit since the refurb, the site is as good as ever. Some of the pitches had been taken out of action due to the weather forecast and the chance of them waterlogging but still plenty of choice of pitch available. spotlessly tidy site in a good location only a short drive from Penrith, Keswick and Ullswater with good walking from the site.
