Beautiful site

Beautiful views, excellent facilities and great access to all the Lake District has to offer. We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Troutbeck Head in May. Good dog walking from the site.

Lovely site, great views

We joined the C&MC this year, and this was our first stay on one of their sites. We were made most welcome on arrival, and being mid-week had a number of pitches to choose from. The toilets and showers are excellent, clean and well situated to be not too far from any pitch. The staff also stagger cleaning times so that there is always at least one block open. We were fortunate in having warm sunny days, and the view from many pitches across the fells is stunning. If in a motorhome and you don't like to move off pitch, stock up before arrival as the site shop has limited produce and you are out in the countryside - nearest supermarkets are Keswick or Penrith. There was noise at night from the neighbouring activity centre while we were there - farm machinery up & down the access road until about 2 am; it didn't bother us, but could be a pain if on one of the pitches immediately next to that road. Overall, a really nice site, we will definitely stay here again.

Fantastic Introduction

This was our first visit to the Lake District and we couldn’t have stayed at a better site. We stayed on a serviced pitch at the upper side of the site and it was excellent. The only issue is the WiFi, or lack of it. Easily overcome for us as we have an o2 Hot Spot device. Otherwise make your phone a Hot Spot. Maybe WiFi could be installed. We had a great stay. Plenty of places to visit. Plenty of walking. The whole site is beautifully kept including the refurbed toilet / shower block. This site is a credit to all of the wardens. We will definitely return.

A Three Week Stay

Really enjoyed our stay here and will return. We had a serviced pitch at the top end of the site. Although we expected the site to be quite ‘bleak’, from the photos, this is not actually the case and certainly in the old quarry area (serviced pitchers) it is reasonably sheltered. The site is good for access to the Northern Lakes, although walking from the site is limited. Facilities are excellent although a few hooks in the open areas of the facilities would be really useful, obviously there are hooks in cubicles and showers. Apparently the decision for no hooks is from centre, why? There’s a good farm shop and cafe/restaurant about two or three miles away (lovely food in the cafe) although for bulk food buying for long stayers it’s Keswick or Penrith! Milk and bread is also available on site. As others have noted there is no WiFi on this site but for us this was not an issues as there is good phone reception for at least BT (assumed EE) and O2. Creating a hotspot with BT was better than the WiFi on many sites we’ve been on. We didn’t find the adjacent activities centre intrusive in any way although we were pitched in an area of the site which is furthest away from it

Lovely Site

We were welcomed by the lovely wardens on arrival and although we didn’t book a service pitch in advance having taken a drive around the site we felt the available standard pitches that were left were a little closed in. Therefore we paid the extra and stayed on a service pitch for a week which in my opinion felt we had more space around us. The dog walk at the the top of the site goes on for 1.5 miles and was ideal for out mutts. We didn’t use the toilets etc as we didn’t need too so won’t comment. The site is excellently situated for endless walking and only 5 miles from Ulswater. We weren’t disturbed by the clay shooting ground at all and probably heard about 10 shots all week. Overall a cracking site and we will surely return if visiting the lakes again.

Lovely site shame about a thoughtless dog owner

We visit Troutbeck as often as we can we love the site and there is so much to do and see in the area. On this occasion we were using Troutbeck as a transit point as we were travelling down from Scotland on our way to Dorset. Whilst at the site we met friends and who live in the area and went out for dinner in the evening. Our visit was partly spoilt because of a thoughtless lazy dog owner who had left a plastic bag full of dog mess in the grass at the back of our overnight pitch. Had my partner not seen the bag and it's contents I would have walked on it. We were very angry that anyone would just toss this waste onto the grass in this fashion, not nice. We reported the matter to the warden and she said told us that it is not an isolated incident, she apologised on behalf of the club. She needn't have apologised on the clubs behalf the fault lays clearly with the dog owner who was to lazy to take the waste to the bin. We know that there are many responsible dog owners in the club who enjoy using the sites and amenities and take care to clean up after their pooch. It would appear however that there are others who do not take such care which is a great shame.

Good location for Ullswater with a warm welcome

Great welcome from the team for the busy May bank holiday. The site was pretty packed with lots of families but we found a nice pitch on the edge next to the brook. Facilities were excellent and spotlessly clean. We valued having a chance to do our washing in super large machines and dryers since the weather had been really wet. It's well located for cycling. The site is very family orientated and and on balance we'd probably prefer something smaller and quieter. But it's a great location with lovely views.

Be aware of the shooting noise from next door.

Fabulous site in every way except my dogs were scared by the noise of the clay pigeon shooting next door. Had hoped that staying on a Sunday it would not be taking place but I was wrong. If that is not an issue for you then everything else is excellent for dogs with miles of walking with no sheep.

Overnight stop

Cant say too much about this site as we arrived later than expected, and left reasonably early, but , first impressions were lovely, with wide ope skies, and lots of space on pitches. The facilities were lovely and warm. WE will not hesitate to use this site again.....Well Done

Easter @ Troutbeck

First time visiting this site, friendly check in, drove round to look at pitches and took pitch 85 which was slightly away from the main body of the site with a great view of glencartha. Pitch sizes were massive, grassed area in front was great for our pooch. Toilet blocks both immaculately clean and newly refurbished. One shut 10.30-12 other 2.30-4. Quite a large site but our daughter made lots of friends at the park and paddling in the stream. Wardens were friendly and maintained the park well. A good location to visit Ullswater and Aira Force. Recommend the walk from Glenridding to Horton and boat back.. beautiful 6.5 miles.Really enjoyed our visit here. Would have been even better if.. (i) 5th shower in toilet blocks had hooks. (ii) Slight drain wiff in Ladies toilets sometines at entrance was looked at (iii) Noisey in middle area when full (iv) Local Information lacks suggested walks which have to be bought, £2.90 for five photocopies was a little steep.
