First time visiting this site, friendly check in, drove round to look at pitches and took pitch 85 which was slightly away from the main body of the site with a great view of glencartha.
Pitch sizes were massive, grassed area in front was great for our pooch. Toilet blocks both immaculately clean and newly refurbished. One shut 10.30-12 other 2.30-4. Quite a large site but our daughter made lots of friends at the park and paddling in the stream. Wardens were friendly and maintained the park well.
A good location to visit Ullswater and Aira Force. Recommend the walk from Glenridding to Horton and boat back.. beautiful 6.5 miles.Really enjoyed our visit here.
Would have been even better if.. (i) 5th shower in toilet blocks had hooks. (ii) Slight drain wiff in Ladies toilets sometines at entrance was looked at (iii) Noisey in middle area when full (iv) Local Information lacks suggested walks which have to be bought, £2.90 for five photocopies was a little steep.
Our first visit since the refurb.
It remains one of our favourite sites. We were lucky enough to get a pitch in our favourite area of the site, with an uninterrupted view of Blencathra in all its glory. It’s always beautiful, but this time, with varying amounts of snow, it was wow! This is a lovely, open site with a spacious feeling. The new hard standing pitches on the old grass pitches are a wise move. The refurbished loo blocks are perfectly clean and well looked after by the wardens, but I have to say they were a bit of a disappointment. They used to have underfloor heating, a real luxury, now gone. The old huge showers have now gone. However the new ones are standard club showers, so can’t complain. There is one extra shower – the world’s smallest shower! You have to stand diagonally to be able to bend down to wash feet. Also, no shelf/seat. The loos are all together now, no problems there, and there is loads of space, but not even a hook or a shelf to put things on and you have to resort to putting coats, towels and wash bags on the floor while washing hands.
The wardens were all very pleasant and professional and when the electrics went off on our pitch they were very quick to help us out. We can’t wait to return.
Lovely, peaceful site
Just back from a 4 night stay at this site, thoroughly enjoyed staying here. Lovely views. Pitches, hardstanding were wide and level.Toilet block was immaculate. TV reception was excellent using a cable extension which plugs into the back of the electric point. Mobile signal wasn't great for the network we used EE but still managed to get online with it and make phone calls from inside and outside our caravan. Plenty to do and see in this beautiful part of England.. Ate at the Horse and Farrier in nearby Threlkeld, super food, reasonable prices and excellent service. The site has good access from major routes and the access to the site itself is very easy. Highly recommended.

Beautiful views from this site
Recommended. A great site with brand new shower blocks, a large activity room and a dog walk which leads to walks through the woods of Matterdale. Beautiful views of Blencathra and Skiddaw from some of the pitches. The site is lovely, flat and well laid out. The wardens work hard and keep the site nice. You can get out and about in the car to many places in the Lakes.
We went over Christmas and New Year which cost £33 per night which is expensive.
Good value
Recently refurbished site and a great job they have done. Facilities, as you would expect, are first class. Shower blocks are really warm with plenty of hot water. Great 4G signal and TV signal was vary good.
We stayed on a fully serviced pitch which gave easy access to the dog walk (not that we have a dog) and a large forest walk with onward access to further footpaths. I can imagine that the activity centre next door can get a little noisy by day but it was very quiet during our stay. The wardens are very helpful with a good sense of humour!
Our caravan is over 8mtrs long and was easily accommodated, the access road is first class with easy access from the A66.
This is an excellent site which we highly recommend.
Overpriced
Site is divided into two. Service pitch area is above the main site and best for access to the forest road dog walk, but away from the toilet blocks. Two people on a service pitch in 2019 can be as high as £56.20 for one night. If you are on the lower site you will be in earshot of the adjacent adventure centre. On the Saturday when I was there engine noise from fast moving quads; on the Sunday gunfire for two hours. No wi-fi, no 4G and even the normal mobile signal is poor at night. Freeview HD unavailable. Only 21 channels and some unusable due to signal crashing.

WOW
Wow, our first visit back to Troutbeck Head since the refurbishment! What a fantastic job, Facilities were as expected, finished to a high standard, cosy and warm and immaculately clean. The hardstandings have also been refurbished and look great. The wardens were lovely, friendly and helpful even though they were busy putting up Seasonal decorations in readiness for Christmas and New Year. So many more Serviced pitches now and lovely dog walks easily accessed directly from the site without the need to go on to the road . We were just amazed that when we arrived there was no one else there ..... so come on peeps get booking you will not be disappointed 😁.

Not the best if you have dogs.
We spent the weekend here to investigate Ullswater and the surrounding area. The site has been referred, which means lovely showers, etc. The layout is open, this could have been I proved with hedges to give privacy. . For us and are dogs this was not what we enjoy, because you are extremely limited for walking unless you are happy walking along a road to get to Ullswater.
Once at Ullswater, great, however you do need to drive there as there are no walkable routes.
The site however is adjacent to the hook in house farm, which has lots of activities for families and friends but this come at a cost.
Walking holiday in the Lakes
Decided to book a short break in the lakes before putting our caravan into hibernation for the winter.
We have been to Troutbeck Head several times but this is the first visit since the refurb.
The toilet blocks have been done to a good standard and there are more hard standing pitches.
Its a shame the drying room has been removed as we have previously found this useful to dry out our boots and jackets after walking in wet weather.
We had a fabulous view of Blencathra from our pitch.
Like the site as it is well located for Ullswater and Derwent Water and is easily accessed,
Fish and chip van visits Tuesday and Friday evenings.
Lovely facilities, but no WiFi , expensive
This was our first visit since this site has been refurbished. The new toilet blocks are very well done, and the pitches are the usual quality for a CMHC site . My concerns are around the lack of WiFi and the pricing structure. For a site which has undergone expensive refurbishment I find it bizarre that my yearly WiFi didn’t work here, not impressed. The price for this site appears higher than other sites at this time of year, The cheapest rate is from £23.10 ..... I had stayed at 4 ites in the previous week ranging from £17 at Castleton, £18 at Alderstead Heath, £21 at Chapel Lane, £18 at Ayr. Seems the newly refurbished site is going to cost us “members”.
Overpriced, and no WiFi...poor....Don’t I think I’ll be going again.
