Second visit still excellent site

Just returned from the site last week , just before it is due to close for the winter. Staff excellent when we arrived it was teeming down, the staff guided us to the pitches that weren't holding water and helped us to pitch up.The weather changed for the better after Sunday, we had a great time walking round Derwentwater, had a great meal in the Troutbeck Inn, just been taken over by a family great welcome, our two Yorkies enjoyed the treat from the owners, as l said food was marvelous. Highgate farm shop is worth a visit, only thing that disappoints is the car parking charge £3 for two hours more for longer at Keswick, that's rip off Britain for you. Booths is great supermarket on apar with waitrose. Its a bit of a treck from Troutbeck to get to Keswick so good planning is required to cut the journeys down. As the previous post wish they would get the flush sorted out on the toilets, l think they are set to save water, only fills half the cistern so you need to flush twice, can't think why of all the places in the country the lakes don't lack water. l believe the site is due for an overhaul this winter, be interesting to see how well the make over is. All in all though a gem of a site

Very Good But!

We visited shortly before the site closed for the winter. The weather could have been better but did not prevent us getting the best from our visit. Staff were great, chatty, helpful and efficient. The site is generally well kept, our one criticism however was the toilet showers. Whilst the showers were the roomiest we have seen, they are in need of an upgrade. Painted floors in showers these days are not to the standard we have come to expect from the club. My wife visited two separate toilets during our stay neither of which she or the previous occupant it seemed could get the toilet to flush. Otherwise on the positive side we will visit again. Pleasant site

We have stayed here on a number of occasions and have always enjoyed the site. This time was no exception. Our only concern on this visit was the condition of the flooring in the shower block nearest to Reception. However the facilities themselves were spotlessly clean and always warm. All of the wardens we dealt with were extremely pleasant and friendly too.

Very nice site!

We had a lovely few days here. Although it was very wet underfoot, the site was well cared for and the toilet blocks very clean and warm - the underfloor heating ensured the floor was always dry. We walked to Aira Force one day - in spate after all the rain! - and there’s a nice NT cafe there as well. Another day was spent in Keswick, well worth a visit. We’ll definitely be back.

Pleasant site

We were invited to a relative's wedding near Ullswater so decided to take the caravan and have a break in the area. Troutbeck Head site is clean and tidy with great views of the mountains, when the cloud lifts. The toilet blocks need updating quite badly and there are only 8 showers for ladies in the two huge blocks. However this did not affect our holiday and we really did enjoy the site, despite the rain and winds but it was October.

It's Ok

First time at this site and we had rain for all three days but you expect that in the Lake District. We did not find the warden very dog friendly with the abrupt manner we were told not to bring that into reception. Yes a good location but if you follow the Caravan Club Sat Nav it takes you a number of miles out of your way to get to the M6 so you do not cross the main road. Overall not our favourite site but very convenient for Keswick which we really like.

One of our favourite sites

We've just had our second holiday at this site this year and thoroughly enjoyed it again. Although we weren't lucky enough to secure a pitch in the exact location on site that we love, our pitch still had wonderful views of Blencathra and some superb sunsets. The welcome was professional and friendly, as were all our dealings with the wardens. This team have excellent customer services skills and it is much appreciated. The toilet blocks are immaculately clean and lovely and warm. I now see what people have been complaining about, as the block nearest the entrance to the site is certainly ready for refurbishment - the shower floors are not nice at all. However it has to be said that, in our opinion, there is nothing wrong with the other block and we've been to worse toilet blocks (The Wirral site and Godrevy). The all weather pitches are quite large, but our only complaint is the location of some of the pitch markers. We arrived on the day that severe winds were forecast, so were not intending to put our awning up. We pitched exactly on the marker, even though we thought we'd be pushed to get both the car and water bottles on the pitch. It didn't matter for 2 nights as we didn't have the awning up and parked the car on the other side of the caravan, but when we erected the awning we didn't have room to get out of the car. We then noticed that most people had pitched at least a foot over from the marker and managed to get their car parked and their water bottles on. We had over a metre spare between the awning and the grass. It must have been wrong positioning. Other than that we have absolutely no complaints about the site and thought that the table tennis and pool room is a marvellous resource.

A Tad Disappointed

We have been to the site several times and have always found it clean and tidy, stunning views, it's in a lovely location. It's true, the toilet block does need a refit but it's always clean and functional. However on our arrival at this visit, the grass was extremely long in places and where it had been cut, it had not been picked up therefore walking the grass into our van. I know we've had some wet weather in this area over the past two weeks, we've also had some nice days, so very disappointed.

Disappointed

We booked this site as have visited before a few years ago. The wardens are friendly and work hard to keep this site clean and tidy. The fascilities are in a desperate state and need a complete refit. The club is asking for planning permission to make more hard standing pitches, well I think the fascilities need doing before they do this, but can see grass pitches don't work here, as it is a rain magnet. There are walks from the site, and it is easy to find. It is also very dog friendly, I do think the club needs to start charging for dogs, as the dog bins need emptying plus the council charge for rubbish disposal so the amount of dog mess, disposed of must add to this cost. I was confused as to why my first night was £31, then after that it was £25, until I realised the children were going back to school!! A little unfair on families? I was caught out by the 72hour rule as well, due to us moving a night early, we did this due to the weather forecast as didn't want to tow in the rain and high winds forecast, it seems another money making scam to me. Especially when they weren't full and it wasn't high season. Would I go there again? Maybe but only for a 1or 2 night stop over.

Second visit to the site

We visited this site in 2011 for a week and we're very impressed and this convinced us to make a second visit this year. The site is as good as we remember it before. It's really clean and the wardens are great. There's a good dog walk just off the site. Unfortunately the day we arrived (4 September) it didn't stop raining for the whole week we were there, but we had arranged to meet up with friends here so we did enjoy our stay and made the most of it. The Troutbeck Inn is not too far up the road. Last time we were here we went for a meal here and it was perfect. We called in to the Inn and asked about booking. TBle for Sunday evening, as they have a dog friendly area, but they don't take bookings. It's just been taken over - 1 September 2017 - and we were a bit worried we wouldn't get in as there were a lot of people on the site. We got there just in time as 15 minutes later it was packed with dog owners. The food was just as good as the previous owners produced Wherever you go in the Lake District always involves a fairly lengthy drive,, but it's worth going to this site for the peace and quiet. Highly recommended.
