Overnight Stay

Second time used this site as a stopover location, having also previously stayed here for longer periods to explore the lakes. Great location. The recent addition of glamping/chalets pods, whilst a great income eraner for the Club, does mean that some of the occupants are not entirely familair with Club etiquette and attitudes. There were several motorists driving in excdess of the 5mph speed limit on site. COVID 19 rules and regs for the washroom facilities mean that only 3 people allowed in at a time, but cleaning still ony taking place once a day. (A featue across all club sites). It would have been good to see the Club implement additional cleaning rota's in this regard. Also windows were kept closed so lack of fresh air an issue. Still worth a visit though.

Nice site with issues.

We bought our first ever caravan so decided to try it out locally, so choose Troutbeck as only 25 min drive from home we were also looking for some peace and quite as we haven't been away for years due to medical reasons. My wife is a frontline NHS worker so she was looking forward to switching of for a few days. The site is remote so we were expecting some quite time. Unfortunately the grass cutting, strimming and hedge cutting went on everyday we were there. While cutting the grass the staff member was abrupt telling me i cant have my awning pegs in the grass also my dog tether wasn't allowed and to take them out. My dog was in our awning on our pitch and was of her lead to go in and out of the caravan. The guy cutting grass told us she had to be on the lead at all times, i found this unusual considering she was inside. Our electric was also no good because it was black, i asked why? To be told he can't see it when cutting the grass..... I found this a bit dubious due to fact its hanging out of a big white electric box, with a caravan parked next it. There was also a stray dog roaming around which was constantly trying to get to our dog. I went to see the site warden, he told me it was the farmers dog. He was going to call him to come and retrieve it. I asked him if he could come and get the dog until the farmer arrives. He refused to do so because of COVID-19. I was amazed it was left up to my wife and myself to fend this dog off (i suppose it doesn't matter if the customers get COVID-19.) After an hour passed still no sign of the farmer, i went back up to see what was going on, only to be blanked. That particular night it was thunder, lightning and pouring down. The dog was outside our caravan all night long. It was howling, barking and scratching at our caravan. We were unable to walk our dog at night and in the morning. We had no sleep that night. I tried to call the RSPCA to report that the poor dog was out in that storm. Luckily at 7am when we decided to go home the dog ran of. We received no help whatsoever from the staff at the site, it was a shooking show on customer services. I tried to complain about our stay to the Troutbeck site itself, however they told me to go directly to the caravan club to complain which i have. Overall our stay wasn't at all what we expected noise, rudeness and no help from staff to deal with a situation they should of dealt with. We are hoping the second time we go away will be a better experience. I don't think it could be any worse.......

A nice site, but ...

Our first visit to Troutbeck Head and due to the location we were looking forward to a relaxing quiet weekend. The site is in a rural location with no noisy roads or railways and even the nearby adventure centre generates very little noise. The toilets were closed during the weekend we were there due to a sewage problem of some kind which perhaps left the staff with more time on their hands. The site has quite a lot of grass and some hedges and for most of the time we were there we were subjected to lawnmowers and very noisy petrol strimmers and hedge cutters. Sat outside our awning at 15:30 on Sunday afternoon, we had a lawnmower cutting the pitch next door and a hedge being cut behind us. This continued for over an hour. While I appreciate that site maintenance is necessary, surely these activities can be confined to mornings or very early afternoons when people are more likely to be off-site? Apart from this we liked the site which has magnificent views, easy access to an off-road walk and well laid out pitches. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful and they were most apologetic about the lack of toilet facilities, which, given the Covid situation, we didn't really miss.

First site visit of the year

One of our favourite sites in the network & always a pleasure to return. A spacious site with beautiful views from the main pitches, not so from the super pitches. Must comment on the high prices here at a site without WiFi. A fortnight here is half the cost of our normal 6 weeks in France with a ferry crossing. We were impressed with the cleanliness of the facilities and they way they were set up for present circumstances. It all worked very well and when using them we felt very safe. We found all the wardens to be friendly, helpful and extremely professional. They all had excellent customer service skills. The weather was poor, but that didn't spoil our enjoyment. We managed lots of lovely walks on the fells. We will be returning off season for sure.

GREAT NEW YEAR BREAK

Stayed at Troutbeck to bring in the New Year. We're planning on booking for there again as it was a great site. Great Location the place was spotless, and the staff extremely helpful and friendly. The walk over the back out of the site towards Dockray is great, it was recommended by the receptionist when we were asking about walks.

Fantastic site in a fantastic location

Fantastic site with stunning views over Blencathra, within 15 mins drive of the A66 and very easily accessed. Myself, the hubby and our pooch, stayed from Boxing day to New Years Day and had a wonderful time. The sites facilities are immaculate and well maintained. The staff were friendly and helpful, they had made the site lovely and festive and held a small get together in the games room, for those who wanted to see the New Year in with drinks and nibbles. The site is about a 15 min drive to either Penrith or Keswick and is close to lots of the fells if you are into walking/cycling. There is an activity centre right next door for the more adventurous. Lovely site if you have dogs, there is a fabulous do walk which leads up into a forestry commision area. Nice little play area for the kids and a games room for when the weather is too bad for them to play outside. We stayed on a service pitch and it was huge, enough room to park the car next to the caravan and still have the awning up. Would highly recommend this site and will definitely be going back.

Perfect School Holiday Stay

What a beautiful site. The views are amazing and the site is spotless. The shower facilities are wonderful! We stayed in the school holidays over Halloween and the staff held a children's Halloween Party which my daughter loved. There is a dog walk on site which is perfect. It is in such a great location and the wardens were so welcoming. This is the best site we have ever stayed at so far on our caravanning journey. Thanks for a wonderful stay. We will be back.

Wonderful Caravan Experience

Having been visitors to the Trout Beck Head caravan site for over 20 years, we can honestly say it has to be in our top 3 favourite locations. The facilities including the dog walk are excellent and following recent refurbishment even more so. The nearby towns of Keswick and Penrith are always welcoming and very good for eating out. If hill-walking is your sport then Trout Beck Head has it all and more nearby.

Perfect Location & Great Staff BUT......

We use the dog walk or take our dog off site - why do so many other members think its ok to walk their dog around the site & on the grass next to other peoples pitches - Not only a problem here, but Wardens do need to start dealing with those who can't understand basic rules. Our 2nd visit here & just as beautiful as last time mostly so peaceful, shame the equestrian centre's machinery was operating late on the evening & at 7 am in the morning to spoil the peace. Still a great spot for an over night on route from Scotland.
