Better sites than this one

Despite advising of our arrival time I was telephoned twice & lady was rude & short with me both times. She made checking in difficult when we arrived then to find dogs not allowed to urinate/toilet on site hilarious, don’t know exactly how you are meant to avoid this! Site was noisy, we left after 1night despite paying for 2, didn’t like it! Spoke to our neighbours on site & they felt the same. Shower block cleaning times ridiculous as usual, didn’t even use.

Worst club site I’ve stayed at

We stayed for 3 nights as a family of 4. I’ve never stayed anywhere where children are so unwelcome. I kept mine in the van when we were there. I witnessed a lady be unbelievably nasty to twins who couldn’t have been more than 5 (they were just scooting quietly doing no harm around) she threatened to report them to the wardens. Facilities dated 100% need re doing. A site totally catering to the older generation who as a rule aren’t late risers. We had to be up and in the toilet block by 10 otherwise we had to wait until 1215!!!! Signs everywhere warning of thefts on the site yet absolutely nothing to deter the thief’s, lighting cameras etc. With all the membership fees taken during covid surely some updating could be done??? Don’t stay here if you like your children to be outdoors!!! We won’t be staying again

Site set in a lovely National Trust parkland

We had a good journey to this site and arrived at 12.50 so parked our campervan in the car park for ten minutes before checking in. Oh dear, what a frosty welcome I received as waiting is not allowed in the car park - just in case the refuse men may arrive or just in case a visitor may want to park in the car park. We were told that if we visit the site in the future (we won't) we must drive to Asda and park in their car park before returning after 1.00 (the site staff put a notice up when we were there telling anyone arriving early to drive to Asda). We knew there would be road noise and we didn't find it too intrusive. Being so close to the main road there is also a good bus service to both Cardiff and Newport. There are lovely walks in the grounds of Tredegar House and the ground floor of the house is open (the rest of the house is still closed due to Covid restrictions). There's a NT cafe and a few shops in the courtyard too. There are several reviews on here about thefts. One night I woke in the early hours of the morning to hear a noise and saw a vehicle driving very slowly past the pitches with no lights on. We were on the part of the site to the left of the site office and the vehicle didn't belong to anyone who was pitched in that area which was quite alarming. The site is okay if you want a stop over in the area as the facilities are adequate.

Tredegar House Upgrade Required

Used for en route stops and longer stays. Convenient location and pleasant setting but toilet block needs upgrading - especially for women required to use secluded and dark rear entrance. Spooky! Difficult access not helped by need for key pad due to security problems. Difficult to see. Better lighting might help? Advice about trouble with theft and crime also off- putting. Closure for cleaning from 10.00 to 12.30 not helpful. Brecon and Broadway cleaning in the afternoon when facility demand much less. Trust gate closure at 5 pm off-putting. Key access at isolated spot after dark not ideal. Have paid annual wifi fee but very poor and frustrating - at Broadway likewise. Zoom links with family proved almost impossible. Frustrating. National Trust restrictions likely a problem - plus crime in area - but potentially good site and wardens were very helpful and pleasant and doubtless doing their best in difficult circumstances. Covid bands not working. Three bands on display board and nobody in toilet block at all. People queueing unnecessarily! Site re-assessment needed?

Great site, with extremely helpful and caring wardens

We have stayed at the Tredegar House site three times already this year. It is very convenient for us as it is only three miles from our son’s home, and the familiarity of staying in our own caravan helps my husband, who has Alzheimer’s disease. The site is very attractive and well-kept, and although there can be some road noise, this is well outweighed by the great location of the site adjacent to the National Trust park, a particular bonus for those with dogs. (Please be aware though that if you are using the Avtex Tourer 2 satnav, that it will direct you along the A48 eastbound from junction 28 of the M4 instead of the A48 westbound! Follow the brown sign for Tredegar House instead!) Over many years of caravanning we have always been impressed by the excellent wardens, who are unfailingly friendly and helpful. At Tredegar House however, one of the wardens was exceptional. He remembered us from our first visit, made sure that we had pitches in the same area of the site on our later visits, which helped my husband enormously in finding his way around, and checked on us to make sure that we were all right. Such a personal touch was greatly appreciated.

Lovely little site, superb wardens

Our first stay here, and already returning in September! Firstly, it is quite a small site and only 3 people are allowed in the toilet block at once which under the current circumstances isn't bad. The toilet blocks were clean but a little dated. All pitches are quite big in size, and mainly flat. We chose a nice pitch, but a little tip. Don't pitch under the trees as the awning and roof of the caravan became a toilet for the pigeons!! The wardens are polite and helpful. The location for dog walking is ideal.Being right next to Tredegar House and the park is lovely and local. Yes, they lock the gates at 8pm, but they supply you with a key to leave/gain access, and this makes you feel that bit safer. My only complaint was about another caravanner who decided the let their children cycle around the site all day until after dark without observing them. They were loud at the best of times and even louder when they fell off their bike! Only to be picked up and allowed to cycle off again. The other people I met on the site were lovely though and what you expect from members, polite, friendly, and quiet!

excellent site, great stay

Very convenient location, being 2 minutes off motorway. Also being in a country park, well wooded but open and spacious pitches. A quiet site, except for background traffic hum at peak times. Its good being able to walk out into the parkland, and having NT cafe only 5 minutes walk away. Facilities all as expected. No causes for concern re security. Will visit again.

Not the best

Booked for 4 nights leaving after 2. Road noise very intrusive. Dog owners walking their dogs on site to do their business even though there is clear notification not to. People cutting across the pitch to get to service point. All in all not the best experience of the club.

Well run and very clean.

We stopped over here to and from our main holiday in South Wales. Approach to the site was clear, just a tad narrow for about 50 yards before Reception but not a problem. Site is clean and well run. Located right next door to the Tredegar Country Park which was very busy each day - on Saturdays an Artisans market runs in the car park. There is some traffic noise and we selected a pitch as far away from the road as possible which did help a little but the noise wasn't too intrusive. We did not use any of the facilities so cannot comment. A nice stopover at this site which is nicely tucked away from the main Country park however due to reading previous issues regarding thefts and security this did have an impact on how safe we felt during our stay (although we were not affected in any way). Pizza van showed up on Friday night which was great for our return leg home.

Spacious well run site

The pitches are generous in size and the site is very attractive. The wardens were very helpful. Facilities are kept very clean. Noise from nearby roads can be easily heard, however it did not spoil our stay. The park is beautifully maintained and great for dog walking. Some travellers parked in the carpark for the country house. The site dealt with it very well by informing everyone and advising us to keep the gates locked at all times.
