ANOTHER GREAT VISIT

We've used this site on a number of occasions as we have young grandchildren living nearby. We've always received a very warm welcome and the wardens are always very helpful, friendly and professional. The site always looks clean and well maintained and the facilities are always clean. Being in a country park, there are lovely walks nearby and if you're a National Trust member you can visit Tredegar House and it's lovely gardens. I would like to thank the wardens for remaining so positive during what has been a very difficult and uncertain time. WELL DONE

Enjoyable Christmas and New Year Stay

I use this site quite regularly for weekend stays, rallies and longer stays. The site is kept in a clean and tidy state and the amenity block is always clean and tidy. There is numerous water points and waste water/chemical toilet disposal stations dotted around the park all within easy reach of the pitch. The site wardens are extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful. Due to the covid pandemic access to the site is only allowed after 13.00 to 15.00 and departures 10.00 to 12.00. The club sends out via email all the details that you need to know about arrivals and Covid rules a couple of days before your arrival. I forgot to mention that this site is very quiet and family friendly. It is by far the best site I have stayed on and look forward to my next visit.

Lot better than we expected from earlier review

Turned up at Tredegar with low expectations having read the reviews which we believe are unnecessarily poor. On arrival staff were very welcoming and friendly. We stayed on a serviced pitch which took a lot of hassle out of the stay. We used it as a base for Xmas shopping in Cardiff for which it was ideal. Whilst limited we found the facilities dated but cleaned to a high standard. The site itself is a little worn and needs a bit of money spending on it but with Tredegar house and grounds on your doorstep there is always something to do. We went to the Dragonfly pub which was nice and friendly. All in all apart from the mad Xmas shopping on the Saturday we had a good time. Thanks to all at Tredegar.

Not very welcoming

This site seems to be run for the site managers convenience rather than the members. You are first presented with signs that tell you that you are certainly not welcome before 13.00. Under no circumstance are you allowed to park in “our “ car park and you are directed to the Asda car park. It would interesting to know if Asda are aware that they are the waiting area for the site. Why oh why is the toilet block shut for cleaning at 10.15 ?Could it not be shut in the afternoon? I see from other reviews that other members feel the same. I am start to wonder if anyone in the club reads the reviews. It appears not.

Comment from the Club:

Thank you for your review. The site team have been in touch as they do their utmost to support members and ensure everyone has a wonderful time at Tredegar House Country Park Club Campsite.

We have made every effort to publish and display specific arrival times for each site in as many ways as possible, this includes the Sites Directory and Handbook, site web pages, booking information on the website and booking confirmations that are sent to our members. In addition, we issue an email to members approximately 8 days prior to their arrival to help prepare for their trips, with a note to check the 'Site Information' page for latest information and for details of their stay. The signs are there to stop early arrivals parking and waiting in the small arrivals area and narrow lane approach to this site. Also we have had to stop early arriving guests from waiting in the site's car park as the refuge skips are located at the bottom end of the car park and when in the past the site team have allowed waiting there the the bin lorry has been unable to access skips due to the amount of caravans etc blocking access. This results in us still being charged even though they couldn't emptied. Also due to early arrivals blocking either the lane or carpark guests can not leave the car park or site due to being blocked in.

With regards to the toilet cleaning time, the block is shut from 10.15am to 12pm. The site team leave a service toilet available for use. The cleaning cupboard is located right next to the gents toilet door so for staff safety the block is not fully available until they have completed the clean of both ladies and gents, which is usually by 11.30 as long as the clean is straight forward.

We hope this helps to explain and address your concerns.

Another wonderful stay

We returned to Tredegar following our first visit a couple of months ago, and I will continue to return there for the following reasons. 1. The location just off the M4. As previous members have commented, don't bother following Satnav directions. Follow the brown Tredegar House signs, but then keep your eyes open for the small Caravan Club site signs as the road is a windy one!! Situated close to the grounds of Tredegar is wonderful. Within 5 minutes you are walking over vast grounds, wooded areas, a lovely lake, really peaceful!. When I say peaceful, the only noise I heard was from the boy racers going up the A48 close to the site. Not all the time though. 2. The site. Nice pitches, really clean toilets and showers, albeit a bit dated, plenty of places to fill up water and waste, and also chemical disposal. 3. The wardens. When I say wardens, we had a temporary warden there during our stay called Kenny. What a fabulous bloke. Friendly, helpful ,loved to have a chat, and did anything for you. He was on the go all the time. He certainly made our stay enjoyable. He is due to be a Grandad soon I believe from one of our conversations and I wish your family all the best Kenny! We will be back soon Tredegar!

A lovely stay and warm welcome……don’t rely on your sat nav!

We arrived with a warm welcome and a conversation about sat nav directions. It took us 20 mins to find the entrance to the country park and then the site, signage is a little unclear. The sat nav wanted us to enter through a closed gate very near a busy roundabout, that looked as if it’s been closed for years. Lesson learnt, don’t rely on your sat nav. The site is situated within National Trust country park and house. Lovely walks around the lake and park. A visit to Tredegar house is well worth it in my opinion.some eating places nearby. The site is very nice and pleasant, there is some road noise in the distance, but it never bothered us at all. Facilities are adequate and kept very clean. We really enjoyed our two night stay and would return. There is mention of theft from this site, and we were asked if we had bikes, but we didn’t bring them. It’s not the only site that has this problem, and I think it’s good that the wardens draw your attention to the possibility of theft. We just didn’t leave anything outside to tempt them with. On the whole a great little stop off for us, on our way to Devon. Enjoyed it.

One star reviews very unfair!

Just returned from a week on this site and, having read some of the reviews beforehand, I wasn't quite sure what I was going to face! However, we had a lovely week and I feel that the 1* reviews were very unfair as was "the worst club site I've stayed at" review. The pitches are very spacious, the facilities are very clean, the wardens are welcoming and the NT parkland that the site is situated in is lovely. We also found it quiet and peaceful. A short while ago, we stayed on a so-called 5* site and Tredegar House is far superior to that particular site. Don't let previous reviews put you off!

Not as bad as some reviews.

We did arrive before the 1 pm arrival time, due mainly to a very easy drive there and me missing the time after using three other sites with 12 noon arrivals. We were told in no uncertain terms we could not wait in the car park and should use the nearby ASDA car park. The attitude felt over the top and with the sheer number of signs around was not very welcoming and more than any other site we have visited. Possibly a bit more tact is needed. The site itself is pretty much club standard, but on a hillside with mostly level pitches although it is looking a bit tired and may need some work to update it, our pitch had very a thin grave layer left on the hard standing with some bare patches The toilet block uses a code which is needlessly long, although I appreciate the need for one and the cleaning times looked a bit long. Returning in an evening means you have to open and close two gates and the barrier, although I accept this may be due to NT requirements and not the club but it is a niggle.. There is some road noise but not enough to worry us, but overall I think the site is well worth visiting and there is plenty to do in the area and nearby Cardiff. There is an ASDA very close for food and fuel and the house itself is well worth a visit. The criticism is more on niggles rather than serious faults so we will be back and certainly the one star rating given before this is excessive in our view.

Better sites than this one

Despite advising of our arrival time I was telephoned twice & lady was rude & short with me both times. She made checking in difficult when we arrived then to find dogs not allowed to urinate/toilet on site hilarious, don’t know exactly how you are meant to avoid this! Site was noisy, we left after 1night despite paying for 2, didn’t like it! Spoke to our neighbours on site & they felt the same. Shower block cleaning times ridiculous as usual, didn’t even use.
