Unfortunate experience

We have stayed at many CAMC sites and have usually had positive experiences. I have to say, this site was the exception to the rule. The location is lovely and it's a great base from which to explore the local area, excluding traffic conditions. However, it seems as if the wardens make things complicated which needn't be. When we arrived 7 minutes before 1pm, there was a queue of motorhomes and caravans. This unfortunately blocked the access road in and out of the site for the people already in. The wardens stood watching the queue grow and gave the 'okay' for the first campers at 1.01pm. When we eventually made it to check-in all seemed okay. We found the pitch and I rushed off to the bathroom, only to find a keypad not previously mentioned. I hurry to the office where they were still checking people in to ask for the key pad code. They refused to give it to me until I told them the pitch number... which I hadn't made note of before going to the bathroom. This meant back to the pitch again, back to the office again and then finally to the toilets. Ridiculous. The access/exit by foot is blocked so that everyone is herded through barriers which land in front of the office door. Awesome trying to manoeuvre through when queues are filled with dogs, children and people waiting to get access to the one person at time office. The inflexibility of the wardens was surprising and disappointing. We left our pitch early as a result. As lovely as the location was, we'll never return to this campsite.

Limited if no vehicle available once there

Stayed 4 nights here, the book and my satnav took us to the very old unused entrance so a bit of turning back to find our way in. Agree that the hard standing are solid for putting in pegs gave me a good work out. Wardens very welcoming and helpful with directions for pubs , bus stops etc: We use legs, electric bikes or public transport once on site. We had printed off the CAMC recommended cycle ride to the 14 locks, details a bit vague but the cycle route is very well signed posted and a good ride if not very picturesque. We also added on a ride to the Roman Fortress. We caught bus into Cardiff for the day. The actual country park was nice but small and we found not a lot for us to do once we walked round it, did the cycle ride and trip to Cardiff. Probably plenty to do if you have a vehicle to travel further afield.

Hard pitch

Great site lovely location only problem the pitch was to hard, I bent 5 of my nail pegs, I could only get 6 pegs in to hold down my full awning did worry a bit if the wind picked up, then had to use crow bar to retrieve pegs that I eventually got in, apart from that had a wonderful short break, will come again soon. Very Strange

Hope you don't run out of gas or toilet chemicals or milk, or fancy an ice cream. Only club site we've ever stayed on where essentials like milk, gas, toilet chemicals and various other items not available on site. No "shop" of any sort. Had promised the grand children that we'd get an ice cream as soon as we arrived, so not a good start to have disappointed kids. Site itself well located for exploring surrounding area with very easy access from motorway, but that gives the downside of constant traffic noise. Keypads on toilets bit of a pain.

Thank you Darren, Tracy and Team

How lovely the site looks; it is so tidy, and the toilet and shower facilities are immaculate. We really enjoyed our stay with you, although last minute we had to cut it short by a night. The entrance looked very welcoming and cared for with the brightly coloured flowers and tidy paved areas. The site is a credit to you. Thanks for your friendliness. We really enjoyed chatting to you both. We will return!

Issue of hardstandings must be addressed urgently

As per previous comments we bent six heavy duty pegs trying to get them to go into the gravel to secure our awning - the hardstanding having set hard like concrete. Wardens were extremely helpful but the club needs to sort this out as priority. Very good shower facilities. Site set within a nice park and close to the stately home. Small well stocked supermarket a short walk away - bigger one further off apparently.

August 2022 - Family of 4 plus our pooch

Book with consideration. Unfortunately the hosts did not make our stay feel welcome at all. On arrival 'Karen' was the opposite of warm and welcoming. She made my wife feel very negative about our scheduled weeks stay. Her attitude was the opposite of positive and friendly which made our check in slightly stressful. We stayed for 7 nights from Fri-Fri. The Opening weekend had a Reggae Reggae themed event which was no more than 5 yards the other side of the tree-line behind our pitch. We were not made aware of this as we would of probably pitched the opposite end off the site. The music was non stop from 1000 - 2200 on both Sat & Sun. Being a young family of 4 we found this unacceptable as we probably would have re-scheduled our arrival dates. This is the first caravan club site that we have stayed on that also had very unsociable closing times on the shower and toilet facilities. 1015-1200 daily didn't give us any flexibility for any late morning showers etc. With only the one cleaner for all the shower facilities, it seemed closing all the facilities for nearly 2 hours to be very inefficient. Maybe closing the mens/ladies separately or pushing the cleaning times back to post lunch/early afternoon when most families are out enjoying the local areas. Just a thought....... The entrance and exit barriers also exposed some complexities. Unless you had go go gadget arms then it was impossible to get the car close enough to open the gate (card acitivated). Neither of the staff seemed to show any willingness to help by opening the barriers for new arrivals. The exit was even further away, and everyone I witnessed leaving the site had to get out of their vehicle to open the gate. Maybe an automatic gate is required when departing.......would make life a lot easier. The site it self was pleasant, facilities were clean and tidy although very dated. No on-site shop selling any basic essentials. I know you had an Asda within 5 mins drive or a 15/20 min walk but usually caravan club sites have something on site. Tredegar House and the nearby grounds were spectacular. If it wasn't for this being pretty much on-site then we would have had second thoughts about staying for the full week. The weather was kind and we still managed to make the most of what Newport/Cardiff and other surrounding areas had to offer. All in all a great location, but the site needs some TLC and some trg on customer service. Will not be returning in a hurry.

Another great stay.

Have stayed here a number of times and really quite like it. A well kept site, OK for families but not a great deal for the young on site, narrow lane approach which gets congested around 1230 -1300, arrival time! Pros - It's on the Tredegar Park site, a great House and Gardens which are worth a visit. The grounds have great walks, a play area for kids and a fantastic place for a picnic or kick around. It has a few gift shops and a nice coffee shop. Bus access, should you need it, to Newport or Cardiff is within a 5 minute walk and there's also an Asda within 20 minute walk should you need anything. If you fancy a meal or a pint, there's a pub about 20 minutes walk away. The site itself is mostly level but there are a few pitches were you may need chocks/levelers. Cons - This is a quiet site but some pitches will suffer from medium road noise which is worse during rush hour (AM/PM) but nothing to really get concerned about. The gravel pitches are very hard so be warned if your using pegs. The toilet block is a little aged but still of a good standard with all the usual facilities. The staff I have found to be helpful but have their moments, they don't like pressure (early arrivals) and wouldn't accept my digital membership card - make sure you have the card with you! Overall I enjoy staying here as it always serves my purpose and I do find the time here relaxing. Will I stay again - YES.

Home from Home

Cant fault the stay we had at Tredegar, and it was all down to the site Managers, Darren and Tracy (hope i remembered your names correctly). Super helpful and friendly, and spent a good long time discussing the pros of life as a warden. Our pitch was spot on as well, close to the very well maintained toilet and shower block. The grounds were spotless as well. They do encourage us dog owners to take our pooches out of the gate for toilet time so that we can avoid any unpleasant odours during the hot period, and just outside the gate is the huge grounds of Tredegar House. Thank you for a fantastic break we will be back.

People Turing up early

Came here on July 16th 2022.. the poor wardens deserve medals.. 3 or 4 lots of ppl turned up way to early and parked all in the side car park.. as we arrived at the correct time of 1pm the wardens moved the cones to go up to where you pay.. with this all those in the carpark decided to come out but us .. omg it was a nightmare.. then we edged on and the 1 guy was shouting at us out there's a queue to which we said yes we are in the right 1 and come at the time your meant to.. and c as tried on coming out.. there were more in that car park and the arrivals for 1pm were also arriving... These ppl make it a bad experience for others . We all know what time we can arrive.. the poor wardens were shocked but had no choice as some of them were demanding and being rude and loud towards them.. so not needed.. this makes bad experiences not nice.. went to see them about an HR later .. they were still a bit shaken up regarding this.. so I think more needs to be done for ppl who turn up early and this this behaviour in is acceptable... Other than this we had a lovely stay .. stunning weather.. nice to chill and saw hedgehogs at night which I loved.. There was a bit of a problem with the toilet lock that sometimes the code wouldn't work .. but waited until some1 came out.. We we love this park so we definitely be back anyway...
