Nice site with pleasant wardens

This is a great site in a National Trust location a few miles from Cardiff with it's shops and tourist attractions such as the castle and bay area. Unike previous reviews we had no problems with TV reception using our standard aerial. We also found the site well maintained and certainly no worse than many other sites on the network. WiFi was a bit slow but we were a long way from the repeater. For dog owners, the grounds of Tradegar House are great. Wardens are all very pleasant and toilet/shower facilities clean. For food supplies there is an Asda about 15 mins walk from the site so ideal for motorhomers. For caravan/motorhome sales & accessories, Newport Caravans is only a short drive and they are excellent.

Tv reception

We have been on this site numerous times on different pitches and tv reception is almost non existent. I wish the club with its vast profit's would join the 21st century and fit co ax hook ups on all its sites.

gone downhill

We have stayed on this site many times over the years to visit family, I must be honest it has gone downhill in the last 2 years, the grass is not being cut, and the pitches are covered in weeds, its such a shame as the surroundings are fantastic, yes there is road noise but you get used to it.

convenient and spacious

Stayed for 3 nights in order to be close to Cardiff - perfect in this regard. Site clean and well tended. Lots of space and pitches roomy and pleasant. The site itself is very peaceful and the close proximity of the open parkland is a real bonus for families and dog owners. Bacon roll in the NT cafe at 10 am was a great way to start our first day before wandering around the excellent NT house. Shower block is perfectly fine - tired around the edges but very clean and I disagree with some of the more scathing reviews of this. Easy to access the site and wardens great. ASDA 24 hour superstore just round the corner for provisions but we wouldn't recommend the Dragonfly pub - staff were rude about customers behind their backs and our roast was leathery and tepid. Didn't see anywhere else to stop for a meal nearby. Our TV reception at the site was perfect. A few downsides to the site. Firstly road noise from the M4 and A48 which is constant in the background. Not so good in nice weather if you want windows open all night. Road noise to be expected with the location and we actually found a site in the Cotswolds much worse than this, so no need to necessarily be put off. We live in a rural area so might be more sensitive to road noise than others. WiFi was terrible, which was a particular problem for us as we work every day for a couple of hours whilst we travel - we run our own business and websites were so slow to respond that I made cup of tea waiting for pages to open - in the end we gave up totally and went to find a cafe. We were better off using the weak 4G on our phones than using the site wifi.

Nice Site

Nice site and pleasant wardens greeted with a smile on all occasions . Site is easy to reach just off the motorway but you do need to make sure you get in the right lane as shown in the directions on the slip road Pitches are of a generous size and not too close together. Toilets and showers clean and generally tidy but do need to be updated

Great location but some noise

This is our second visit to the site and we are still just as happy as the first time. It is easy to reach just off the motorway but you do need to make sure you get in the right lane as shown in the directions on the slip road. The site is set on a gentle hillside and is one of the best landscaped club sites for us, with plenty of service points. There is noise from a busy road just over the boundary wall though, but it did not bother us, it is certainly not as bad as the earlier review and the television reception was reasonable. The room with brochures for the area was sadly short of local attractions with most brochures for things rather too remote, so do your homework before you go. The house is very good and the grounds make a useful stroll but the exterior of the house is covered in protective sheeting for renovation work at the moment. I would add the Royal Mint to the attractions shown in the handbook. There is an Asda store within walking distance for food and cheap fuel. The wardens were exceptionally friendly.

Pleasant site with friendly wardens

This site is situated in the grounds of Tredegar House with plenty of attractions to see and enjoy nearby. Wardens friendly and helpful too. Nearby roadworks on the M4 were a constant aggravation when travelling - constant queues. Ladies toilet block a bit shabby, could do with an update. Keypad on door caused some initial confusion as the arrow showing the direction to turn the knob pointed in both directions but this was rectified during our stay.

Ok lets stop being PC and tell the truth

I have been fortunate to have spent over 170 nights at club sites over the last 18 months and this site is the worst i have stayed at. If you want to be be woken up from 5am by motorway traffic and be happy to live without either satellite or tv aerial signal then this site is for you. I thought Henley on Thames was bad for traffic noise but this site is in a league of its own being next to the M4 motorway. The location is great for exploring the local area but the club has allowed the vegetation to become overgrown. It is so bad my outfit was 3/4 covered by trees preventing any form of tv signal being recieved and my van being kept in shade For most of my stay. The nearby park was great for my dogs but that is the only postive i could think of Will not be going there again. The grass around my pitch had not been cut for weeks. I live just 25 mins away and know the recent weather has been poor. This did not stop me cutting my grass !

Great Site

Had a 7 night stay at Tredegar Caravan Park, our first and certainly won't be the last. Friendly, helpful staff, lovely layout among the trees and great for watching birds and squirrels! Road a bit noisy but where we come from we have the continual hum of a concrete road so not an issue for us. Pitches are of a generous size and not too close together. Toilets and showers clean and generally tidy (any mess is down to the people using them). Bonus is the position, within the grounds of Tredegar House and its 90 acres of parkland, just perfect for dog owners and even children as there is a play area at the end of the drive into the site so no child issues around the caravans like on some other sites. Nice to be able to use the park when the site was closed too. Whilst in that area can totally recommend a visit to St Fagans Natural Museum of History, dogs allowed, caters for children big site so probably need a day there and the best of it is it only costs £5 for parking your vehicle. Yes, there is no entry charge, you only pay parking so for a family it is a very inexpensive day out. If you like historic buildings it is a great place to visit, we will definitely be going back as the castle was closed the day we were there and would love to see it. All things considered, great caravan site, lovely area and lots of places to visit. Looking forward to our next visit.
