Lovely Site

Very friendly and helpful staff who keep the site beautifully. Traffic noise quite loud but not all the time. It was nice to be able to forget about the phones and wi-fi and laughed with family and friends that all messages sent to us after tea time would be picked up in the morning! Stunning scenery and wild life with plenty of things to do in the area. Will stay again.

Reliable site.

This is the second time we have visited this site.  The lack of a toilet block means it is always possible to get booked in.  The site is always well looked after by very friendly and helpful wardens.  The provision of the mats for parking on grass are welcome and help in preservation of the grass surface.  Nearby pub friendly and reasonably priced good food. Road noise not a problem.  Site well situated to explore a beautiful part of the north yorks moors by foot, cycle or car.  Good walk along the old railway line around the head of the valley and across the moors to Lastingham and Hutton le Hole.

Pleasant time at The Howard

We booked 3 nights at The Howard in order to try out the systems on our new caravan. We found the site to be excellently kept and the wardens helpful and friendly. The approach road from Pickering is narrow, poorly surfaced in places, and very few passing places. It is in a lovely location, but would benefit from having a cell-phone signal and wifi.

A perfect holiday on a perfect site

We stayed here in late June and were lucky enough to have fantastic weather but we would have enjoyed the site even in the rain. Pub across the road (friendly, reasonable & good food), shop & tea room round the corner - lovely evening strolls through the village, stunning drives up Chimney Bank and across the moors and above all peace & quiet. Some of us members are getting a little concerned about the trend towards the "jammed in tight and all hardstandings" sites. We love quiet sites, grass pitches, and do not need all singing all dancing facilities as we have those in our caravan and don't particularly like having to queue for a shower. A bonus is these sites are cheaper which means we can afford to go away more often. The wardens on this site were terrific, friendly & helpful - the road noise was very much confined to the "rush hour" periods morning & evening and didn't unduly bother us - believe me we have been to noisier sites. If our fellow members want wifi, shower blocks, good phone signals etc etc they maybe need to choose their sites more carefully. The vast majority of the club sites these days are fully equipped with everything you need in this modern world - us, we crave peace when we go away so more sites like this please and less of the miniature towns!

Rosedale Abbey

A beautifully kept site by a very friendly Warden and his wife. The only downside to the site is it is parallel to a main road with its inherent traffic noise. The plus side is the site is level and well drained. The pub opposite the site entrance serves good food and drink but does not accept dogs! Unusual in a rural setting.

Great site.

This was the first site we have stayed on. Fantastic for us. Having just got our caravan we wanted somewhere quite (so we could set up without anyone laughing at us or hearing us argue about how to put the awning up). This site is perfect very clean, friendly staff and what's more very friendly neighbours. However I think wifi would be a great asset for the site as mobile reception is non existent. It's great to get away from mobile communications though. Peace and quiet.  A great base for all the North Yorkshire Moors attractions.  Will be back again and again.

Ok but....

The best thing about this site were the wardens.  Thoughtful about their customers and their environment but the facilities do need reviewing OR the site needs to be cheaper.  No toilet block, no phone signal or wifi, no dog walk.  Access to other places nearby is made a little difficult by narrow lanes - and no wifi to check opening times/parking etc.  Loved our stay but wouldn't go back.

Rosedale - a real hidden gem

Visited this gem of a site again last week. Perfect for walking out onto the Yorkshire moors and close enough to towns like Skipton if you feel the need. Got to say, once on site the car didn't move, walked everywhere, including chimney bank - phew, only a 1 in 3! but so worth doing for the fabulous views. For those less energetic there are three nice pubs in the village, a couple of tea-rooms and some fairly gentle walks around it. The site is kept super tidy and clean by the really lovely wardens - well done folks!

Great place to relax

Quiet and peaceful, Rosedale Abbey is a great little village with quaint teashops and coffee houses. Could do with wi-fi in site as there is no telephone reception, but hey, perhaps not...... Get away from it all.

Recent weekend stay

This is a reasonably local site for us so we know the area quite well. Great for walking, lots of industrial history to see up the dale. Pubs nearby are good, the White Horse up the bank has great views from the garden. Pity the views from the site aren't available, screened by large trees, I suspect that's the National Park insisting on screening. Make a visit to Dale Head farm for real Yorkshire tea and delicious cakes, nice owner/ baker too.  Wardens are unobtrusive and helpful when you need it, so good.
