Tewkesbury Abbey Club Campsite

We chose this site as a one night stop off on the way south to Cornwall. As such, it fit the bill. Close to the M5 and easy to get to. It is almost next to the Abbey and 5 mins walk into town (once you work out the quickest route!). The car park next to the CAMC site has a warning about seasonal flooding, which I presume may extend to the site itself. Caveat Emptor!
Facilities are new, large and very clean. Grounds are lovely but there are limited cut-throughs for getting to the main toilet block & you end up looping on the site roads. The layout is tidy but (as others have said) don't expect much privacy. I think this is the most cramped site I have visited and you'll definitely feel close to one another. That said as a transit site, it works well.. drop the steadies and stroll off for a takeaway in town. I'll probably go back if I need a stop off but Cheddar is much more appealing in this respect.
Excellent
Excellent site, 4 day stay. Location excellent, loads of Pubs, Eating Establishments on the door step. Walking excellent, walks map will be supplied by Reception. Reception Staff are some of the best I have come across, nothing was too much trouble. People moaning about the bells, forget it, can hardly hear them..... We had a Full Service Pitch, one of the best I have come across, very large. Pitch turnover seemed high, no doubt people using as a stop over going South/North, 2mls off the M5. Overall thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be returning.
First Visit, First Impressions, First for Location
Found this site on first impression to be quirky, new style block paved pitches, some of which are classed as hard standing but no awning permitted, then some multi surface, which is part block paved and part grass, then the usual grass pitch or gravel pitch as well as serviced pitches.
This means to be sure, when booking of what to expect, a check of the site plan would save distress or complaint as seen by some reviewers here. The facilities block is new, well laid out, easy access via steps or ramp as it is raised up due to being flooded in the past. The bollards are also double the usual height for the same reasons. No bending needed here. The wardens very good.

Great Site/Location/Clean. What more can you ask for
Just had a weekend at this site and cant believe some of the negative reviews that people are writing.
Bells are too loud - are you having a laff ? This is a working abbey, the location is one of the main reasons you go there, because it is close to the abbey and the town.
People playing music and having a good time on the site - are you havin a laff ? Why do people go away in their caravans. To sit moaning all night. Get real.
Cricket club music too loud - we sat outside on Saturday evening thought it was great change TBH
Toilet blocks too far. I must say, after the amount I ate and drank whilst trying to keep in tune with the bells at 2.00am each morning, I never had an issue making it to the toilet. If its too far, use your toilet in your van/MH or carry a doggie bag.
What is wrong with some people. Go out, let your hair down and enjoy yourself.
There are fields in the middle of nowhere that might be more suitable, but then you would probably complain that the grass is too green, the sky is too blue, or the water is too wet.
;-)
Excellent location. A great site for getting to know your neighbours (not in a good way)
The site is in a great location on the outskirts of Tewkesbury with a 5-10 minute walk into town for lunch or to do a bit of shopping. Tewkesbury Abbey makes a picturesque backdrop to the camp. I notice that some members did not take kindly to the Abbey bells ringing. I am reminded that that the Abbey was here first, probably by a thousand years or so!
The site itself is well managed with excellent clean facilities and welcoming staff.
My biggest concern is the number of pitches on the site with every square metre being used whether or not the area is suitable. This results in some of the pitches being very crowded with minimal privacy.
It is worth noting that access to the toilet block is only from one side requiring quite a long diversion along the path. This just encourages users to take a short cut though someone else's pitch. I can't condone this but the path layout encourages people to do it.
Overall, we really enjoyed our short break at Tewkesbury Abbey site and I am sure we will return one day.
New and raw, but it'll get better when the plants mature
We have visited the site a few times since its refurbishment. The new shower block is dominant and stark, and whilst the facilities are excellent, everything is approached via stairs or a ramp. The doors to Gents and Ladies are heavy and open with a large round knob, quite difficult for those who are frail or have arthritis.
We pitched at the side of the shower block and could clearly hear the gents door slamming closed throughout the evening. A real nuisance.
Overall we love this site and it will soften when the newly planted areas mature.
Only other surprise was the pitch price. The club seems to be getting quite expensive compared to competitor sites and we thought close on £40 a night expensive, even for a serviced pitch

Bank holiday to forget
Such a lovely site. Well maintained with new facilities and decor throughout. Very friendly staff
Not again though in August with the nearby cricket club playing music TIL 2am and the Abbey ringing its bells from 8am constantly
What a shame,
This could be so much better.Good toilet block once you get in it.Little or no thought given to surrounding area.Ramp one end and steps the other and no paths through pitches. No wonder people have been taking short cuts to get to the building.
Criticism last year as soon as the site reopened,The Club didn't take the opportunity during the winter to put some paths in,All they have done is put bits of fence posts and strung wire in planted area and put notices up saying don't walk through.
Do the club take any notice of what members think? no just expect us to put up with it and pay increasing site fees.
All in all not worth a return visit.
GOOD EDGE OF TOWN LOCATION
Ideally situated on edge of town. The new facilities block is very nice, but no thought given to those less able in the planning. As said elsewhere the initial reaction is that most pitches are close to the toilet block, this is not the case and there are no short cuts or walkways, so be prepared for a long walk. This appears to be due to cramming in pitches around the central area and the landscape planting, which I am sure will look very nice in time, but for those less mobile does not allow easy access. We felt the site has now lost its character because of this and will probably not return. Would recommend the Italian restaurant it is excellent, great food well priced and the Berkeley Arms a proper pub no frills with excellent beer. The Abbey is well worth a visit and a walk around the town to see the many beautiful old buildings.
