Lovely site in a lovely location

We spent two days on this site with a view of the abbey and thoroughly enjoyed it. The facilities are excellent and the location is fab, both for local site seeing and as a stopover travelling N/S on the M5. Quite a few cafes/pubs were still shut because of Covid, so we were forced to have a late lunch at the Wetherspoons. We sat in the garden and despite myself, have to admit the food was fine. The abbey is beautiful, as is the park and riverside walk. We had a very nice socially distanced meal at 'My grandfathers clock' 5 mins walk from the site entrance.

Good Base

Arrived Monday for 3 nights to have a taster of the new COVID guidelines in place to see if it works before we go away for a longer trip in a few weeks. Lovely clean and tidy site. Big entrance (after going over river bridge) & all very well organised. Spotless toilet /shower block. Quite new which makes it feel fresh and welcoming. Excellent system for using the facilities. Although at times there was a small queue of 3 people, it moved reasonably quick as there is very limited access inside due to social distancing. This has made people use their own on board facilities where possible. The site was full but quiet when we were there. We had a lovely New 'serviced pitch'. One thing to take into consideration is that the beautiful Abbeys clock chimes every 15mins!!! It's not loud but it is there and a night very noticeable. A good base for us to tour around the area. Forest of Dean not far. Slimbridge wetlands not far etc etc. As the site is next to the park, there is a playground nearby and dog walking. Rugby, Cricket, Football and Bowling club all attached to the park. Obviously there is the river near by and shopping is a 5min walk. All in all, a very positive experience and well done to the site staff for their efforts in keeping us as safe and possible.

Hell Hounds

After arriving from Black Knowl where our stay was tarnished by a neighbour's dog which incessantly barked for 3 days we were hoping for a dog free incident stay at Tewkesbury. How wrong could we be! Within an hour I'd stepped in dog muck right outside my van. When raised with a warden he cleaned it up immediately with a smile, all 4 wardens were superb. Next, the afternoon siesta was spoilt due to a cacophony of dogs barking all afternoon rounded off by a noisy neighbour's dog curtailing next morning's lay-in. Given the above is there any mileage in the Club designating pre-allocated dog zone pitches for pampered pooch owners where they can all enjoy their dogs barking together. There will be then no need for non dog owners to spend 30 minutes checking their pitch for dog excrement plus enjoying a siesta if so required plus a lie-in in the morning. Surely this is what the Club should be striving to provide as a part of it's mission statement?

Beware the Rivers.

We had a four night break booked here, this was our fourth attempt over the years to come here and each time we had to cancel due to flooding. So did we learn by that no we didn't, the day before our arrival we had a call offering us a cancellation due to the fact the site was getting very wet, but they could accommodate us on a piece of tarmac which was really good of them as we had booked a grass pitch by mistake, another lesson learned. Having watched England win the semi final in rugby world cup spirits were high and we arrived in the rain and pitched up, taking note that the wardens office was elevated and so was the shower block, it is almost on stilts, and that the plug-ins are about 5' high....I wonder why.....anyway hubby went off to watch the adjacent team play they're Saturday game. By now the River was on its way, between 9 and 11 pm, the wardens, with military precision started moving waterlogged people to the back of the site. We were a bit close to the water but was told "you'll be fine it never comes up this far". So we went to bed. About 5 in the morning we were nearly afloat, so we splashed around in our welly's and manage to move the van back with the motor mover, luckily with a shoulder to assist, it moved out of the water, and on to un sodden grass. And the water still kept coming. By 8am people who were due off anyway, started to leave through the emergency flood gates, which were becoming flooded too, by mid morning the wardens declared they need to shut the site so we all had to leave, by now we were half immersed again, so this time the wardens came with their little tractor and pulled us around so we could hook up and go........so go we did off to the Malvern hills. (Beautiful site, and dry). We cannot praise the wardens enough for the work they did during that evening, night and morning, obviously there was a drill to follow, which they did with professionalism and calm, there was no panic or flared tempers. And thousands of pounds saved with they're quick response. I do wonder why though, the club has just put in a brand spanking, beautiful I must say, new shower block, and lots of block paved hard standings...... flooding is obviously a regular occurrence....is it worth all the danger and stress I ask???? Still the wardens office and the shower block will be fine oh and the plug ins too. Oh I rated 2 for peace and quiet, the Abbey bells are beautiful,..... but every quarter of an hour!!!!

NICE CARAVAN CLUB SITE

I love this site because its easy access to Tewkesbury, being close to the town and an easy drive to Gloucester ,Cheltenham and surrounding areas. Its a great stop over site with good facilities, very well kept and well ran. We will definitely stay here again.

Wardens from Wonderland

What a great site run by brilliant people. We asked for an extra night they accommodated us, they even cancelled the site we had intended to travel on to. On the final day of our stay it rained all day, the Severn got the hump and overflowed in the middle of the night, some of the lower pitches were flooded as was the main entrance. The Wardens were up until the early hours moving caravans and motorhomes to new safer places, including a line along the road by the toilet block. And then with a cheery manner ushered everything around in the morning so that those who were leaving could escape via the back gate (before the tide came in again) and those who were staying were relocated to dry pitches. And as we left even the parting cry of 'I bet you're pleased you stayed an extra night' was delivered with a smile. Well yes we were, and we will be back. I like folk with a sense of humour.

2nd Visit, Mop Fair, Different pitch, Wet weather, Different views....

Our second visit to this site in mh, reliant on public transport. Pitched completely the opposite side of the site to our 1st visit, not by choice but because site full and pitch choice already booked. What a difference this can make to a holiday! The pitch was behind the hedge closest to the Rugby Club! Friday and Saturday nights a bit noisy with locals enjoying a night out to bass music, all finished by 11pm ish. Sunday mornings rugby training competes with bell ringing, take your pick. Its all part of the towns vibrant activities and this town is very active having much to celebrate, staying here for a week can certainly make one feel alive, loved it. October 9 and 10 is busy with the Mop Fair each year, so avoid if its not “ your thing”. We found the hospitality to be great and visited other local venues that opened their doors in those eveings that were normally closed. Tewkesbury is a lively town with friendly people, much the same as the club site. The site is newly laid out and there are issues that have been commented on already in these reviews. I agree with some, the access to the facilities block, depending where you pitch is an issue, it won’t change. The trees and shrubs will grow in time and it will be beautiful again. Just wish the site was open all year, cannot understand why it is not. There is many a good reason why it could be, it is nearly always full and many people stop one or two nights passing through, however we enjoyed a full week visiting many local venues including three National Trust properties. We will be back when the site re opens, but hope it changes to year round opening to enable us to visit family in the town.

Great Site

We had 3 nights at Tewkesbury and found it a great location for a short stay. The town itself is well worth exploring and there are some really interesting National Trust locations nearby. The popular Cotswold towns are also within easy reach. The various types if pitches are a bit confusing as we had never come across so many before. We ended up on a grass pitch which needed leveling front to back. Many other pitches on the grass needed leveling side to side which I tend to avoid. We had a good pitch with plenty of sunshine. The site was full and could be viewed as a bit cramped in some areas. It was a bit of a trek to the toilet block, but worth the walk as they were spotless. The cleaning of the toilet block was done in the afternoon which was much more convenient, in my opinion. TV reception was okay if you've got a good aerial. Phone reception was very good. This site is within easy reach of the M5 Motorway so is a very good place for an overnight stop.

Site a bit cramped,

It was a great site, and so near to walk into Tewkesbury, lovely clean facilities. Only negative found the site to be crowded compared to other sites we have stayed on, a little cramped, but was fine for a couple of nights stay over. Staff very pleasant and helpful.

Super site location with splendid wardens but annoying drawbacks

Positives: Superb location - so close to fascinating and attractive town and surroundings. Great walks and History. Close to Cheltenham, Gloucester, Evesham, all served by bus, and great for those of us with bus passes. Excellent wardens, who are friendly, helpful and maintain the facilities to a high standard Negatives: The previous criticisms of the refurbishment are all justified. The site is cramped, and getting to the excellent toilet block can involve a route march. The website says that TV reception is good. On at least part of the site that is clearly untrue. Our neighbour on one side could get 5 channels. The other side could only get ITV, and after trying two different aerials we gave up - frustrating as we were there for a lengthy stay. These drawbacks could have been avoided by better design and planning of the refurbishment.
