Teeside - Barnard Castle Site

It is always a pleasure to visit this site.  It has spacious, immaculate modern facilities and helpful staff.  The site now has a large adjacent field which at the moment is for the use of dog walkers - for me this is a useful additional feature.  The access to this field is right next to a caravan pitch and is very muddy.  Consideration should be given to making a gravel path or something similar into this field.

Perfect Easter Break 2016

We avoided the Easter traffic by arriving on Thursday to a friendly reception from the site team. There were plenty of pitches available on Thursday except for the serviced pitches of which we had one booked. Perhaps the Caravan Club has underestimated the demand for such pitches. Friday of course saw the influx with every pitch taken up. No need to think of food on Friday evening as the visiting fish and chip van serves up very nice grub. Local taxi companies were very willing to pick up from the site to take us in to some of the excellent restaurants in Barnard Castle for an evening meal (essential if you want a drink with your meal). The pitches are well spaced and comfortably large enough for car, caravan and awning side by side. The site is maturing nicely and although it was too early in the year to see the shrubery in leaf, it is growing well. Toilet block was immaculately kept and a pleasure to use. Almost certain we will be back again sometime. A few photos of the site can be found at https://www.flickr.com/photos/g0cqk/albums/72157664480316163

Spacious and clean

This site is very spacious and outstandingly well kept with superb facilities. Loved the underfloor heating in the toilet blocks Very nice 20 minute walk into Barnard Castle which is a lovely market town with lots of nice restaurants The best thing is the location in this amazing countryside with the highlight being High Force Only downside is the traffic noise from the adjacent road running along the side of the site but that is a minor concern

Easter 2016

Enjoyed a pleasent stay at Barnard Castle over the 2016 easter break. The weather wasnt overly brilliant and traffic was awful but I cant hold the site responsible for that now can I. I had booked to stay with my parents in their van and was with my wife and young son (aged 2) in ours, we were advised by the wardens how to go about getting a pitch near each other in accordance with the club rules which worked out well for us. The facilities for the baby and toddler bathroom were excellent and the on site park was good fun (although catering more for older children than toddlers) by the way as the weather was a little wet I found the sports centre in Barnard castle (just of the main street) has a great indoor soft play. The town of barnard castle was lovely and the location of the site was convinient for visiting the town and surrounding area. The site did felt a little dark at night time, although this did allow a great view of the stars and is slightly exposed on the crest of a hill so a little windy, chose pitches wisely as many a person was fighting with an awning on the wrong side, this would be improved as the foliage becomes more substantial over time. Whilst visiting I had an issue with my electrics and luckily for me the site shop stocked a new hook up cable, the wardens very kindly allowed me to take the cable straight away and pay a little later on as I wasnt able to pay at the time (and needed some heating on). Overall a very pleasent site with very plesent wardens, clean, tidy, excellent facilities and a wel kept (if slightly spartain) new site. We will definatly return and would recomend others to visit.

Easter break

We have stayed on this site when it first opened, so thought it was time to visit again. We was on pitch 44, the road noise didn't bother us. Had a walk into Barnard Castle on what turned out to be the best day. Not much open due to it being Good Fri, but was able to have liquid refreshment sat outside in the sun. We managed a 7 mile circular walk from the site which was very nice apart from the showers. It is a lovely clean site. Good location. Don't have a dog or children so cant comment on the facilities. The fish and chip van comes Fri. No good to us due to Gluten free diet, but is a nice idea if you travelled and want a quick easy meal. Will go back again.

Wet Easter weekend

Managed to get a last minute 2 night pitch so consequently near road & some traffic noise but not a problem for us. Easy walk into town over the Tees & past castle, very picturesque if you are lucky enough to have sunny weather. Usual high quality & standards. Will definitely visit again.

Great site

Used the site to test out new (to us) caravan. The motor mover decided it was not going to work, Warden immediately offered to help with van, but we managed. Fantastic toilet block, lovely and warm, and immaculately clean. Fish and chip van on site on Friday, some of the best fish and chips we have had for a while. Will certainly be back again

Enjoyable First Visit

Last time we were in this area, the site was still under construction, so delighted to have now stayed here. Really enjoyable stay with excellent facilities and welcoming staff. Our pitch overlooking the Deepdale Wood Nature Reserve was ideal for birdwatching. Fairly easy walk into 'Barney' but will be better when woodland path is more accessible (landslip currently makes this somewhat hazardous)

Well worth a visit

We have used several other camp sites in this area in the past but will definitely be coming back to this site in the future. The location is really good for Barnard Castle visits and apart from the proximity of the sometimes busy road the site was fantastic. The staff were exceptionally friendly, the toilets immaculate, warm and welcoming and small touches like mowing a shorter path around the dog walking field were extremely thoughtful and made the difference. All the pitches are hard standing so this site will be just as good in the wet weather although boots were needed for the dog field as the entrance was quite muddy. We didn't have children with us but the play park looked great and made me wish I was a child again. Be warned though - if you have a long car/caravan overall length you will need a caravan mover as some of the sites involved almost jack-knifing the caravan to get it into position. The pitches are plenty wide enough, just a bit lacking in depth and reversing space. Rock pegs and a strong hammer are also a must. Great site overall though and definitely well worth a visit.
