Short break

We stayed here for the first time this season and remembered how much we had enjoyed staying here last season. Close to walk into town with its many shops and pubs.We both work so are weekend caravaners and don't want a long drive on a Friday so this is perfect as within a hour of home. We also use White water which is at present closed. Cant fault site or staff. Its such a shame that it not a 12 month site as we have missed winter caravanning this year and with all the pitches hard standing it would be perfect. Booked to return next month.

A little gem

Lovely site tucked away in the countryside but only a very short distance from Barnard Castle with its shops, pubs, cafes, and of course the castle itself. The site is kept very clean, as are the facilities and the wardens were very helpful. The pitch is hard standing so if you have an awning you need steel pegs.I made one slight mistake and parked facing the road rather than the river .,so I never had breakfast in the awning, in the sun as it was on the wrong side. ( learning all the time )

Two night stay for nearby event

A very clean and modern site situated in a beautiful area, ideally located to Barnard Castle as only a short walk away. The staff are friendly and helpful.  The pitches are large, level and well spaced. Excellent facilities, well organised and plentiful. Downsides are the road noise if staying on the top pitches but not an issue on the lower ones.  Being new members we are not up to scratch on site rules and regs and lost our pitch after one day as we were not told we had to 'reserve' it even though we had to inform reception which pitch we had chosen for our 'two night' stay!  Regardless of the downsides...overall a very pleasant stay and will definitely stay again...with a 'reserved' sign! Haha

Lovely walks

A lovely quiet, well kept site. Easy walk into Barnard Castle. Plenty of good dog walks on and close to the site. Town centre has plenty of small shops and pubs. Will be back.

Excellent stay

Currently on our 4th night here, home tomorrow. It's our first visit here but certainly won't be our last. Right from the exceptionally warm welcome it has been an excellent stay. The site is very well placed with the pleasant Barnard Castle (Barny) a 15-20 minute walk away. The wardens are a very friendly couple and the site is kept immaculate, love the warm floor in the toilet block. Many good walks can be found down the river and we will explore more on our next visit. It has been a real gem of a find and only 100 miles from home, we will be back ??

Nice site but awful flushing loos

We stayed here for 3 nights 3-6 March. It was our first time at the site. The check in was efficient and courteous and we were on our Super Pitch within a few minutes of our arrival. Good, well drained and maintained pitches. Lots of excellent places to visit in the Tees Valley and some fine pubs nearby. We enjoyed our stay here very much, except for the toilets. While the toilet block is new and kept very clean, the toilets systerns take an unbelievable time to fill up. It's the same for the men and women. We complained to the site wardens and they explained that the fill water for the toilets is rain water. It is a "Green" system, but unfortunately the water pressure is so low that it takes about 8 minutes for a systern to fill. Hardly practical at peak times, especially if the loo needs a second flush., primitive and unhygienic. I'm sure that the people who designed this system, do not have to use it. They are the slowest filling toilets we have ever come across, anywhere. It's awful and has not been thought through fully. A shame really, as we liked the site and the staff. Not sure we'll ever want to use the loos again though.

Best site welcome ever.

We arrived without booking and were treated to an excellent welcome. Lots of information about the site, local walks and Barnard Castle itself and even got some discount vouchers for local exhibitions. The site is a maximum 15 minutes walk from the town and castle, which was perfect for us. The town is well worth the visit.  The site was pristine in every respect with excellent wash/toilet facilities. We've already recommended it to several friends and will definitely stay again although for a longer period.

Walkers and dogs paradise

Poppy our dog loved the dog walk area, it's a field so she could have a really good run about.  There are also plenty of walks to do from Barnards Castle so you don't need to move the car. The Fox and Hound in Cotherstone makes a great pit stop for food and drink.  The wardens obviously take pride in the site as it was very well kept and looked after. There is a road right next to the site but it was quiet when we were sat in the caravan.  We will definitely return here as there are still places we didn't have time to go.

Warm, clean but not great for families

The staff and facilities at this site were, as usuak absolutely faultless.  Lovely warm, welcoming and helpful staff and spotless, warm facilities.  10/10 with regards to these. The play area was highly rated by my 9 yr old son too. However, the site is within site of a Young Offender's Institution which was noisy throughout the day with heavy machinery clearly audible and then, after dark, the inmates can be clearly heard shouting to each other from their cells.   The site is sparse and barren with little hedging or trees and therefore resembles a car park, albeit with lots of room on each pitch and therefore between vehicles. Whilst the walk into Barnard Castle was pleasant and only about a mile or so.  However the road is busy, there is no safe footpath and it is unlit which makes it dangerous for families choosing to walk to town. I don't recommend this site for families
