Great site for dogs.

Just returned from this great site. Barnard Castle is lovely and a good base to visit a lot of places. We have two border collies and they loved the three acre field for dog walking and exercise. There are some good walks direct from the site up and down the Teesdale way. As you leave the site by the bottom gate turn right and then right again onto public foot path through woods, beware can be muddy, but better than being pulled down the main road outside the site. When you see a bridge turn left and this path brings you out at the bottom of the road. Cross the road slightly left, cross the bridge over the Tees and you are on the Teesdale way. Go up the Teesdale way towards Cotherstone or go through Barnard Castle to go down the Teesdale way. Great walk for the dogs. Visits to High Force and low force recommended also. Dogs loved this site.

Our first visit

A lovely site, very clean and well maintained, the facilities were excellent especially the warm shower block. This was our first visit in October but will not be our last. The easy walk into Barnard was very nice and the bus service back to the site was convenient.

Pleasant stay

Stayed on the site for 3 nights at the end of September. Nice clean site and facilities and helpful wardens. Large field to exercise our dog. Walk along the road into Barnard Castle, about 20 minutes,or a little longer to walk along the side of the river from the site

This site never disappoints our expectations

What a lovely site, the wardens are always friendly and will do whatever they can to make you feel welcome, they keep all the facilities to the highest standards of cleanliness. We used the mobile chippy on our stay this time, and the Fish & Chips were great with what I term as old fashioned mushy peas. there is some road noise if you park at the top of the site, but the location to the town offsets that issue.

Brilliant Barnard

Stayed for a week in October and were blessed with excellent weather. The site is well located for many local attractions and High Force, Bowes Museum, Beamish should not be missed. The town Of Barnard Castle is within walking distance ( steep climb on return!) and should be visited with its many excellent independent shops. Usual high CC standards, but the friendliness and helpful attitude of the wardens merits a special, and above average, rating. Only downside is the road noise on pitches adjacent to the road, and it is well worth seeking out a pitch as far away from the road as possible. we ill return, to enjoy the site and take advantage of the year long admission tickets to Beamish !

Not good for wheelchairs or mobility scooter

This is a lovely site but the gravel on all pitches is impossible for a wheelchair user or mobility scooter which is a shame as it a nice site well laid out. it's quite dim of a night insufficient lighting. Facilities are clean, could use the disabled facilities as I couldn't get my wife off the pitch due to her mobility scooter getting stuck in the deep gravel. The main road is noisy and you are right next to it, there are no pavements to go alon to get into town for quite a way and it's a very busy road.  Nice big dog walk area, site is very clean, so sad we wouldn't come back because of the pitches.

Lovely Weekend

We stayed at this site for a late season weekend and loved it. Friendly, helpful wardens made us feel welcome from the start and the site was immaculate. Nice walk with the dogs into Barnard Castle plus the site has a meadow to one side for dog walking. Well spaced pitches, all hardstanding. In bed for nine the first night after a busy week and so peaceful we slept till eight next morning - bliss. Recommended for a peaceful stay but with plenty to see nearby, good location to use as a base for exploring the area.

Barney site

Nice site, just spoilt by the road noise as our pitch was only over the hedge from the main road !!!! Staff were very helpful and the site well maintained
