What a site. What a place.

We were on our way back to Scotland from the midlands and decided to take an unscheduled stop. We were so glad we did as Teesdale Barnard Castle popped up as our next CC site on route and it was a topper! Great location, great staff, great pitch and superb countryside walks in to a great town. The only minor irritant was the nearby road and fast noisy traffic for the pitches on that side. Do not let this put you off; we stayed another night as we liked the site and Barnard Castle so much.

Gem of a site

Stopped off for 3 nights on way home from Edinburgh (another lovely site).  Wonderful welcome from the warden.....it became obvious during our stay that they all worked hard, enjoyed it too and kept an immaculate site in all respects. The layout is perfect, just the right amount of visual separation and it all creates a feeling of being away from it all. Some occasional traffic noise from a car or two but not bothersome. "Barnie" is itself a delight. Bowes Museum is a must. High force worth a visit and a local village agricultural show was a bonus. This site sets an example of layout and attention to visitors needs which is exemplary.

One of the best sites

Second time visiting Barnard Castle, it's an excellent site with great staff and the town is a short walk away.

Super site and location

First time on this site and first visit to Barnard Castle since 1998. We should have returned sooner. Great site for all especialy our two dogs who loved the dog walk. Barnard Castle just as good as we remembered it and the fish and chips from the 149 shop and the van visiting the site both very good. We will return

Its the perfect site in the lovely area of Teesdale

We just love this site and often stop on the way back from the lakes and its an absolute joy to pitch up at this very well run site a stone throw from Barnard castle. ITS PERFECTLY FORMED and very well designed . Each pitch has plenty of space and you never feel overlooked. the site overlooks a valley below and the road noise mentioned by some is not as bad as reported . if this is an issue you can get a pitch on the lower level . The toilet blocks are immaculate and the wardens are very helpful and not overbearing with a lecture on site rules . well done wardens you are first class. Tip ... If you walk into Barney look out for the pedestrian bridge over the tees at the bottom of the hill . When you cross the river turn right and take the left hand path up the hill and you will be up at the top end of the town . Just 15 minutes walk and your there..We like the Commercial Pub in high street for its friendly locals Tony and Ali .

Eee it's certainly not grim up North!

Wow! This is quite a new site and certainly lives up to any high expectations. Really generous and flat pitches. The shower block and other amenities are of a very high standard. As always we were spoilt by friendly and very helpful wardens. We pitched near the road which is quite busy but not a problem by evening. When touring in a motorhome it is always an issue getting out and about from the site. The location was therefore brilliant for walking into Barnard Castle. It is just over half a mile along a quiet wooded path. The town itself is a delight and well worth a visit. The most convincing reason to book is that the region is beautiful to look at, is full of very friendly locals and is immaculately looked after by all. Try to make your way into this area as I feel it is a glorious region that is perhaps under-rated. I hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did!

Gem of a Site in Gem of an Area

We intended to stop over for a few days initially, before moving on, but remained for our full ten days holiday. Not only is this site a gem, with excellent facilities, staff and tranquil setting (forget any nonsense about being near a road), but also, this previously-unexplored area for us is quite a revelation too. Barnard Castle is an excellent base town, whatever your 'bag'. That Museum (The Bowes) is second to none in the country. Depends, but if you want to explore the countryside, visit Durham, 'Beamish' or even one of the best farm shops you'll ever encounter (Mainsgill, Richmond) give this middle bit of the country a try - from this excellent site.

The Best I have visited so far

I have just returned from a weekend visit to this site it was the first time using this site and it will not be the last. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left the site staff were friendly and very welcoming. The site itself is kept pristine the toilet/shower facilities were spotless all of the time. It is only a 10-20 minute walk into Barnard Castle itself via a woodland walk which was great for my dog. We also sampled the mobile fish and chip shop that comes to the site on Friday's and Wednesdays and I have to say they were probably the best fish and chips I have had in a long time. I would highly recommend this site to anyone

Teesdale Tranquility

We only stayed at the site for one night on our way back home, but found it very friendly and relaxing. The town of Barnard Castle was very close by, so we went to explore for a couple of hours in the morning before leaving. We were not disappointed and thought it was well worth another look in this region at a later date. So Teesdale - We'll be back!
