We stayed at Stonehaven on our tour through Scotland. Close-by is spectacular Dunnottar Castle. The site is nicely located at the seaside, at the outskirts of little Stonehaven. Like any CC site we've been at it was extremely well kept and clean. The wardens are very friendly and particularly helpful. In our case, we've forgot a cable on site. The warden was very kind to mail this cable on to one of our next stops! Thank you very much indeed for this!

My favourite site

This is my favourite caravan site. Lots to do around about and we enjoy the walk to the harbour with a stop at the chip shop and ice cream shop on the way back. Also nice to sit down at the square chip shop and cakes from Robertson are also good.

A lovely Site

We stayed here for three nights on our tour of Scotland.  A beautiful site spotlessly clean nicely laid out and very friendly wardens.  We were a little disappointed with the town.  It seems a bit sad and neglected, even the harbour looked a bit sad.  We did a nice walk through the woods, and then walked to Dunnottar Castle along the cliff path.  Unfortunately it rained quite hard which spoilt the view.  Also be aware it is £6 to get into the castle which isnt clearly marked and you have to walk down 180 steps from the cliff top and then 180 steps back up. Nice beach for the children right opposite the site and good dog walking.

Another great holiday

Again had great holiday at Stonehaven. We were one of the last tourers on the site prior to the transfer to the Caravan Club, and the improvements to the site were as expected and makes the site ideal for all.The surrounding area has many attractions and areas of interest. And Aberdeen with all its theatre, cinemas, bars and resturants is approx 25 mins by car or bus service from just outside site gets you to central Aberdeen in 35-40 mins. If you visit try the fish and chips from The Bay Approx 4 min walk from the site best around.

All the right ingredients:

Nestled just off the beach, just outside of town and just close enough to a great little chippy, bistro and icecream shop - it has all the right ingredients for a great break. The dog loved the beach, and I loved the award winning fish and chips. The only negative is that the site lacks any real views (shame given it's proximity to the beach) and the adjacent roads can generate a little noise. We'll be back...

My Review

The staff were very helpful, the facilities were spot on. The only down side for me was, we had to leave the site to have a social evening, there's no entertainment on site.

Great site

Stayed here for 7 nights the wardens and facilities on site were 5 star and location for exploring this region is excellent, being National Trust members made the location perfect for visiting the 3 Castles close by. The only down side to this site is the open aspect with no trees, hedges or shrubs to give a little privacy, this was made more apparent by a certain number of members who think it is acceptable to walk across pitches to gain access to the toilet blocks Etc. Also choose a pitch away from the toilet block in peak times as this is a play area for children whose parent`s do not which to control them, but after saying we will visit again but out of peak season.

great for outdoor activities

Stonehaven is one of the best for outdoor activities. The site is next to the beach, and next door to a leisure centre with a 50 metre outdoor pool of heated filtered seawater and also a 25 metre indoor pool with laned sessions three times most days. So ideal for anyone who wants to swim. (I used the indoor pool with a lane to myself both at lunchtime and evening, but the outdoor pool with chute and inflatables would be better for families. Also it is easier to swim in seawater.) There is also a lovely coastal path along the cliff tops running south, to and past Dunnottar Castle, for walking (or running in my case). With a clear sky this is nicest first thing with the sun rising over the sea. (Unless especially interested in the detailed history - which I'm not - I didn't find visiting Dunnottar Castle too interesting. The best experience is to view it - free - from the surrounding cliff tops.) And I also found Stonehaven a good base for road cycling- my favourite way out of town was the A957 to Crathes or Banchory. (Crathes Castle is well worth a visit.) Plenty of unclassified roads to explore on the way and north of Crathes. The site itself looks recently redeveloped and so is quite bare. It would benefit from hedges between pitches. The toilet block is of the highest CC standard, and the wardens (one couple only) do a fantastic job. Stonehaven is "the birthplace of the deep fried mars bar" and some visitors flock to The Carron Fish Bar for that reason. I didn't try one so can't report on that.
