Good site for walking to Torcross, good site for motorhomes

We only stayed here 1 night in our motorhome on our South Hams tour but will be back, if you turn left from the site there is a farm shop great for supplies, keep going left past the nature reserve and you end up in Torcross beach front with a pub & fish & chips & small post office. You have to walk along the cycle path to get there but it is safer than most of the other sites we have been to. If you turn right out the site there is a footpath that takes you to other pubs & a church. Also there is a bus stop nearby to Dartmouth & Kingsbridge. Wish we stayed longer here but it was a bit windy the next day so decided to go inland a bit to Modbury site, we should have stayed put & enjoyed Start bay more, so will have to return. Very friendly wardens, very clean facilities.

Busy at Easter

Lovely site, it was very busy over the Easter weekend obviously, but that didn't detract from the enjoyment factor. Great walking area.

We keep on staying at Start Bay!

As good as ever over the Easter week. We've been coming to Start Bay for a few years now and it never disappoints. Despite being nearly full on Easter Saturday it was friendly, immaculate and ideal for the sea, pubs and just chilling! The 3 of us - and the dog - had a great time. The bus ride to Dartmouth (from the upper deck) must be one of the best in the country. We will be back.

Start Bay Great Welcome

We (2 adults with dog) stayed here from 8-14/4. The welcome and care of the site/facilities by the wardens from arrival to departure was excellent - nothing was to much trouble. Cant recommend it highly enough. Site location - being able to walk to beach,SW coastal path, pub, farm shop etc was a bonus but drive to Salcombe/Totnes/KB is a must too. Site shop was great to for all essentials and a local f&c van turned up on onsite on Tuesday night, but as we had plans offsite I cant say how good/bad it is. Route in from Kingsbridge is narrow in parts but passable with usual care. Overall dont want to give to much praise as everyone will want to go !! We intend to return asap.

Start Bay

We really enjoyed our 3 night stay at this site. When we arrived the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. The facilities and site are immaculate and the staff work hard to keep them so. You can walk from the site to Torcross and in the opposite direction to pubs which means that you can base yourselves at the site without using your vehicle should you wish to do so. There is also a direct bus in to Dartmouth for an alternative day out.

Excellent staff and site.

We stayed here for 7 nights, from 29th March. This is a relatively small site, set on the side of a valley and fairly well sheltered. Our most notable memory of the site was the staff, who were extremely welcoming, helpful and friendly. The site is an easy 1/2 mile walk to/from Torcross with good access to the SW Coastal Path between Dartmouth and Start Point. Access along the A379 from Kingsbridge is a bit narrow (we encountered a wide load!) but hey, if a double decker bus can do, then so can a caravan!! Highly recommended.

Lovely location

Loveley location although roads are a bit narrow along the route. Several pubs nearby serving good food and some nice coast walks.

Weekend late March

Wardens are excellent really welcoming-Not much of a playground for kids, I could see it being quite crowded later on in the season, and not a huge dog walking area on site either, not that it bothered us as we were on a walking weekend. If your not a big walker its not too far to walk either to Torcross or Stokenham, so location is excellent if you don't want to have to jump in your vehicle to get fed & watered. Would definately use the site again for a weekend visit. Barry Matthews
