First trip

This was our first outing with our new to us van. We received a lovely cheerful welcome. After pitching up all set up we were informed that we were pitched the wrong way. This was my mistake being a newby. We said that we were willing to turn the van in the right direction. But no the pitches were rearranged to accommodate my mistake. The staff were so helpful. We were impressed with the peace and tranquility the site had to offer. I think we will become regular visitors here.

Brilliant

A great site, well kept and with super people running it. Shortly after arrival a massive gust of wind took our canopy off its mountings and over the motorhome. Paul and Ginny were brilliant, we managed to save the situation getting the canopy down from the roof and stored away. The site is well kept and is a testiment to their care and attention. If you dont enjoy this venue then you are in the wrong place. If you go into Stamford, be sure of where the best parking is for your vehicle. On the Saturday morning they held a Macmillian Cancer coffee morning, yet still had time to assist stowing the canopy into the van, they desrved to have made a great conrtibution to a magnificant cause. Well done. Anthony Richards - West Midlands

Great site

Great little site in a brilliant location with access to the forest and the miles of well marked walking and cycling routes, my dog was in heaven. The site is close to lots of very picturesque villages, quite a few within walking distance and also just a short drive from Rutland water which is worth a visit. On site the wardens couldn't have been friendlier they were there to welcome us in and certainly helped make our stay enjoyable always finding time for a quick chat and to offer help and advice. The day my grandchildren visited the wardens made them very welcome and even got them all doing a treasure hunt around the site which they loved. Just outside the site there is an adventure play area which is accessed via the forest trails so its safe as there's no roads to cross and there's also a children's park and café in the NT site next door. I have read comments about weeds growing on the hardstanding pitches I never noticed any on the hardstanding pitches near us and although we had a grass pitch the wardens worked tirelessly to keep the site in tiptop order We would definitely recommend this site tor both families and also to people wanting a quiet break and we will be returning again sometime

2019 Season

This site is close to home and therefore used by Fiona and I regularly. This year has been the best experience on this site because of the care taken by the wardens. The grounds are great with the better weather. The garden that has been created by Gill and Paul are an oasis of calm. The once busy cut through has been tended and improved. The little trail for children has been well received. The biggest bonus has been the dog wash which has been a godsend. The care and attention to detail provided by these wardens is the best we have experienced. Their positive and cheery attitude enhances any length of time spent at the site. The site location is excellent for dog walking or slowing the pace of life.

Lovely quiet site

A great welcome from the Wardens Paul and Jill on arrival, this is a great site in a lovely location being on the edge of a stunning woodland with a variety of walks and cycling, there is a cafe and cycle hire too. If you have a dog this is doggy heaven. We will definately be visiting again, but taking our bikes next time. Thank you to the Wardens for a very in depth chat about the job of a Warden which was very interesting, with some great stories.

Wonerful site. Busy but Peaceful

Stayed here July 2019 with a caravan. Most pitches were occupied but the site didn't seem busy, although it was outside the school holiday period. There are Forestry Commission woods accessible directly from the site and these are marked with several trails of 2,3 and 5 miles, but you can mix and match if you want. Ideal for walking, cycling and horse riding. My Wife is disabled and can walk only a few metres, but, using an electric bike, she managed and enjoyed the 5 mile circuit twice (2 separate days) and the 3 mile circuit on a third day. The trails are well signed, have benches on which to rest, nature related activities for children and photo opportunities. We didn't go off site and didn't feel the need to, but were told that Rutland Water is a 15 minute drive away and also has excellent walking and cycling facilities. We will certainly be visiting again.

Peaceful (except for weekends)

Been here several times over 10-12 years. Great location but bit of a hike to a village. The surrounding woodlands are great for dog walking AND excellent for those restricted to wheels (such as wheelchairs and mobility scooters). Published site info should state this! No playground or toilets so deters families although usual 'invasion' at weekends. Expect pitches to be sloping as most are. Wardens are terrific especially Mark and Lynne who do the reliefs. .Going back again later this year. Sadly too many members seem to think that the 5mph speed limit only applies to others, not them! On the whole very much recommended.

Great Site

Always love going to this site, immaculately clean and well organised. We were greeted by the best Wardens ever this weekend, great sense of humour, friendly and very helpful. We had a problem with electric (first trip out this year) and Warden saw us struggling and came and helped. Looking forward to returning again this year.

A generally Peaceful site

Just had a relaxing weekend at this site to try out our new motorhome (we have been caravanners up until now). Helpful warden with advice about filling and emptying water - thankyou. Standard of upkeep is as you expect from Club sites - i.e. high It is the case that one side of the site is adjacent to the refurbished visitor centre carpark - being there over a weekend it was well used as was the adjacent kids play area. We were pitched next to the car park but did not find the noise in the least intrusive. I would expect it is much quieter during the week. The work is nearly complete (there was some machinery working when we arrived on the Friday) until they tree plant in the autumn. From late afternoon when the visitors left and through the evening the site was very quiet - only disturbance was the perennial dog barking & yapping! There are two wonderful adventure type play areas - one as mentioned near the carpark, the other in the woods. Lots of walks through the woods and in surrounding area. Wonderful to hear the cuckoo - even at 4.30am when I got up to go to the loo!!

Lack of important information

The forestry commission are making changes to the car park adjoining the caravan club site and it is a construction site along with dust and machinery noise during the day.Trees and bushes along the boundary have been removed so people using the new car park have full vision of the the caravan park and vice versa. It has changed the character of the caravan site and club members should be made aware of this work .
