Usually a Quiet Site

Normally a lovely quiet and peaceful site which we enjoy very much. Wardens work very hard keeping the site so smart and tidy. Unfortunately the Forestry Commission are revamping their car park that runs down the side of the site. They have removed trees and shrubs so we seem to be part of the car park. The work starts around 8ish and is nearing completion but unfortunately there is a lot of dust from the lorries leaving the site right behind the caravans. Bushes have been replanted along the boundary fence but will take time to grow, once established it will be so much better. The is a Forestry Commission restaurant just outside the site entrance which is very hand for lunch! We will be back again!

Relaxing break

Relaxing break away with my dog's who had lots of fun in the woods which are next to the site. Great walks, bike rides, and a gruffello trail for the little ones. Not much else to do on site apart from chill and relax. The staff work so hard and are amazing at what they do. We'll definitely be back!

Great start to Motorhoming

We booked Stamford as our first stop on our first motorhome holiday, having hired two vans with friends. We hadn’t got off to the greatest start, hearing the hire company were on Rip off Britain and being worried about access charges etc, so we didn’t want to drive too far our first night. We couldn’t have chosen a better location and friendlier owners. The site is spotlessly clean in the beautiful Fineshade Woods, which the dogs loved exploring. Being novices to motorhoming, we were unsure of a few things but the site owners were really helpful in talking us through all the hook up and disposal stuff, they really made us feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble. They built our confidence in using the motorhomes and even helped fixed a broken hook up lead. I would really recommend this lovely little park, even though it has no shower or toilet facilities, with the home we didn’t need them and were aware of this when we booked. I would definitely return if we were in the area again. Thank you for the hospitality.

Location location location

We were ideally looking for a site close to Rutland Water, but finding no suitable sites with vacancies we opted for Stamford & took advantage of the mid week offer. It was our first visit to the site and area, the weather was a bonus but the location was perfect for our needs. Rutland Water is any easy journey and particularly scenic if you take the B roads. Uppingham and Stamford are worth a visit as are the numerous picturesque villages close by. We will return as there s more we want to explore around the area. Our only negative point, and it is not unique to this site, is the number of visitors with numerous yappy dogs. I am a dog owner but I believe it is time for the CMC to start charging more for 2 or more dogs if only to cover the cost of emptying the waste bins.

A lovely site

We are familiar with the area, having been many times to walk in Fineshade Woods and visit the cafe, but we acquired a caravan only recently and this was our first night out! It was lovely. The manager, Sharon, couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. Facilities are fine and the lack of showers and toilets didn't cause any problems. We walked through the woods to the Royal Oak pub for dinner - a bit dark and scary but enjoyable. It's great having the cafe just next to the site and you can hire bikes if you want to. We'll certainly be going back.

Always a favourite site

Stamford has always been a favourite site for us,it has a good variety of pitches either sun/shade grass or hard standing plenty of walks and great for dogs . It would be a good idea in this day and age if there was more security here i.e barriers or cctv at the reception area as there doesn't appear to be anything of that nature- just an open gate. Wardens have a hard time trying to prevent people driving around this site too fast as with many other caravan club sites I think zero tolerance would be the only way . The worst offender was a late arrival after dark towing a caravan at a stupid speed after finding a pitch and then racing around the site to make sure nobody else got it ??????

Dog heaven.

Lovely welcome when we arrived, both sets of wardens very helpful. Site nice and clean. Couldn't ask for anything better for dog's, for the walks alone and for us. Great pub for eating and dog friendly was the Collyweston slater, very nice. Also nice walk from site to the village of Kings Cliffe, to the cross keys dog friendly as well. Peace and quiet, and didn't matter not having a signal. Fabulous 11 days away.

Excellent location for walking and cycling

Our first visit to this site and we will certainly return. Well maintained and run by the managers who are helpful and welcoming. Pitches are good size and the surroundings are excellent. You are in a woodland site with miles of wide flat trails for walking or cycling. You can hire cycles nearby where there is also a cafe for snacks and drinks. The trails are waymarked for directions and distances with a children’s orienteering to seek the “gruffolo”. You can walk directly offsite with no need for the car. Walk to the nearby village by trails to the “Cross Keys” pub which serves good food in pleasant surroundings. Plenty of English Heritage and NT places to visit also nearby are Stamford and Corby should you wish. We are happy to recommend this site to other members.
