Great experience

So pleased we chose this site for our first club experience. The wardens were incredibly friendly and helpful even making sure we were okay after our first night. We really couldn’t fault them or the site. It was clean and tidy with the addition of sanitiser at the Motorhome service station. We loved the site and the pitch which Paul suggested was ideal for our needs though you did need ramps. We bought the small local map and although we didn’t use it this time we will definitely be returning here. There was no children’s play area which I guess may have been a bit of a downside for the families that were there but it did mean that the site was mainly adults and hence extremely quiet.

Lockdown release Monday 12th April 21

Had booked this site online a few months before, fortunately for us Boris allowed campsites to reopen on the first day of our chosen break. The warden called us a few days before to take payment and asked if we would prefer hard standing or a grass pitch and then gave us a few pitches to choose from, discussing where they were etc. We also agreed an arrival time slot. Upon arrival we were greeted by a friendly male warden (sorry didn't catch either wardens names ) and given a welcome pack in a plastic wallet with the site information and latest Covid guidelines, he explained where our pitch was and information regarding the pack, track and trace etc. Pitch 13 was perfect, hard standing, sun at the front of van for most of the day, close to service points and not far from the gate that enters the woodland. Did need levelling blocks. Considering this was the first day of release from lockdown the site did not feel busy or noisy. The site was well maintained, bins emptied regularly and the service points were sanitised regularly too (hand sanitizer provided at service points). Different lengths of walking and cycling routes sign posted through the woodland. Cycle hire, tea room and children's play area at entrance to woodland carpark. Plenty of places to visit near by. One to visit again.

Thank you

What a year it’s been, however I’d like to say a massive thanks to Paul and Gill for an excellent recovery from the pandemic. The warmth and friendliness was outstanding. You really made a massive difference to a very difficult time. You made a real relaxing difference to my front line working. Paul newbery.

Return to the Stamford Gem

Just back from a superb week at Stamford Fineshade site. The site is extremely well maintained & run, site set in glorious wooden parkland, the wardens do a sterling job no wonder many members return. With several walks directly from the site it's a walkers paradise & the dogs love it too. Our October week for next year is already booked. A short drive from Stamford with super shopping & many other local attractions. We think this is one of the best sites on the club's circuit & definitely one of our top six.

Fantastic Restful Week

Thank you Gill for a splendid weeks break, just what we needed, nothing to do, nowhere we needed to go or be, just sit back and relax. Loved your husbands chalkboard sayings. Shame about all that rain but certainly cleared the air, water drained away very quickly and the sun shone on us all, magic. On our way home now and back to normal, until next time. Thank you

Good spot

Central location for rutland water, stamford, peterborough.well kept site with Friendly wardens, plenty doing locally of you enjoy walks and cycling. As previously mentioned,”no visitors” but some are ignoring this rule. The club also need to look at arrival / departure times such as off by noon and no arrivals til 13:00.it was farcical when we arrived with at least 6 units arriving simultaneously and meeting units leaving bang on noon and blocking access roads for all...the access road is also narrow with passing places . Will return next year hopefully

? Visitors

Lovely site, friendly wardens, clearly says on entering site, ‘no visitors allowed’ this was abused by our neighbours on 2 days, is it one rule for some and not for anyone else.

A favourite.

This is one of our favourite sites and we have been visiting for many years. We didnt visit last year, but it was great to be back. We love the new Dog/Bike wash area. Such a great addition and I'm sure welcomed by all dog owners and muddy boots. Wardens were welcoming and friendly as always. Once thing I was less impressed with was the sanitising spray. At first I thought It was a fantastic idea, until I used it. Then I realised it was the one thing that everyone was touching, but the one thing that no one was cleaning. It needs a hand gel sanitiser for your hands not a spray bottle for the taps/bins etc. The spray bottle is the first and last thing you use, which means you walk off with a potentially infected hand. You pick up the spray bottle, having been touched most of the site and spray the tap, then touch the tap with a potentially contaminated hand from the spray bottle which defeats the object of having just sprayed the tap, when completed you repeat the process of spraying the tap and replacing the disinfectant spray. You then tootle off having touched your aqua roll, pull handle, door keys, door handle, awning zip etc. It gives a false sense of security and I'm sure not many think to wash their hands after filling up the aqua roll, afterall you have used the disinfecting spray on the tap!? Also, can those of you with dogs who constantly bark PLEASE have a thought for others who are also trying to enjoy their holiday. I have a dog, but I wouldnt dream of letting him bark incessantly and until gone 10pm like some did. I know they all get a little excitable at times, but we as dog owners have a responsibility. It's down to us to control not for others to endure. Anyway, give this site a go if you haven't already. It's great and perfect for a long chilled out weekend or a week out and about exploring the area.

Which is the friendliest site, then?

OK. Bold title, I admit. And there are a lot of good things about this site - its location, its shady pitch, the walks. But the site wardens are definitely in contention for being the jolliest, and most helpful, that you will find. We actually needed a pitch at short notice and they helped. But observation makes me think they are this good every day. So if you are in the Stamford region, here you go. A great site, with great wardens.

Good long weekend location

We had a specific task to do in the area hence our selection of the Stamford site for a long weekend recently. We came in from the direction of Corby with only the last half mile turn off to site being a ‘B‘ road but plentiful passing places made final access easy. Entry to the site is then spacious and clean and welcoming. Covid 19 preparations and protocols were also in evidence without being overbearing. The site was already well populated by the time we arrived early doors and selection of pitch was therefore limited to what felt a busier part of the site and there was some leveling to do but that’s the deal so no complaints. The location of the site itself next to Fineshade Wood also meant great (dog) walks and nearby Stamford Town and Burleigh House are very attractive places to visit. Although I only needed access to mail and the news, WiFi was not so good, neither my mobile signal. Overall then a competent site that worked well for our long weekend with thanks to staff and fellow campers for making it easy to stay safe.
