Perfect for Dogs!

It was the first time I had stayed on this site and I loved it. It is perfect for dogs, just to be able to walk for miles within the woodland without having to get in the car is a big bonus to me. The wardens were friendly and very helpful. I arrived to find there were no hard standing pitches but was able to move to one the following day. It made my break for 2 weeks so much easier been on hard standing. The site was clean and well maintained with clean service points. There is plenty to see and do in the area and Stamford is just a delight. I really will make every effort to go back to this site.  Just perfect!

Perfect relaxing weekend

We have stayed at this site many times, mainly because the wardens Sue and Peter are so friendly, even if it's been a whilst since our last visit they always seem to remember us and ask after our family.  This year we spent some time in the bird hide in the forest and were pleased to spot a woodpecker as well as deer, and lots of various species of tits.

Pre-Easter Holiday

We were looking for somewhere to stay which would enable us to use our new mountain bikes. This site and the timing of our stay was ideal. We were able to enjoy the cycle trails in Fineshade wood before the busy school holidays started. The trail around Rutland water was also close by and easily accessible. On our arrival we were a little disappointed to discover that all of the hard standing pitches had been taken. However, we decided that our grass pitch was better as it was level! On our last evening we went out for a delicious meal at The Royal Oak pub, 5 minutes up the road from the site.

Stamford club Site

Once again we had a lovely relaxing stay at Stamford. A very quiet location with lovely woodland walks all round the site. Finshade Woods visitor centre is alongside the ste with an excellent cafe and a cycle hire shop. The surrounding villages are very pretty, you could be in the Cotswolds. The wardens are very friendly and helpful. No toilet block here but we don't mind, it's cheaper and more peaceful than other full facility club sites. There is plenty to see and do in the immediate area and club "great days out" vouchers come in handy in this area. We will be back

Sshhhhhh....don't tell everyone!

This is such a wonderful site I'm almost reluctant to tell everyone about it! Location is great no matter what you want to do. Ideal for cycling or walking in the forest next to the site or in nearby Rutland Water. Lovely villages and rural towns nearby include Stamford and Oakham. Can't name everywhere but plenty of options. If you choose to just sit and relax then it is also a very peaceful site although very popular. The wardens are absolute gems. Very friendly and chatty. They obviously live their work and it shows. Can't wait for next trip.

Autumn Bliss

We often visit this site as it is so beautifully situated amidst two woods. Fineshade & Rockingham and is run by the nicest people, Sue & Pete who keep everything immaculate and are a joy to meet whenever we return, offering useful local information as well as suggesting other Caravan Club sites that would suit our needs, cycling, walking etc etc.We visited just at the end of September during that really warm sunny spell as an extra bonus. Whilst not cycling this time,as we usually do, we walked through both woods and were treated to several sightings of the fantastic Red Kites soaring overhead with the sun highlighting their tilting red fork like tails.Breathtaking! Thank you Sue & Pete for looking after & keeping this little peaceful haven for all who visit.

Always enjoyable...

...to stay at this Club Site which is very well organised always tidy, clean and a very pleasant place to relax. The surrounding forest is a real bonus as is the 'Top Lodge Cafe'. The wardens clearly enjoy their work and are extremely professional and helpful. Everything is well signed and well organised and the 'on-site' shop and information centre are much appreciated. It is so well positioned for visits to the lovely town of Stamford and the Friday market there is well worth a visit. All in all, it maintains the high standards one expects from the Caravan Club.

At last found again

It was only as I turned into the lane that I realised I had at long last found this site again. I stayed here many years ago, probably before or after the Dog show in Peterborough. For years I have been tryin to remember where this wonderful place was located and thankfully I have found it again. Granted it has no toilet block but this makes the site a hidden gem to those of us who are happy to the environment within are all to well equipped travelling homes. Close to Stamford and Rutland water and even if you never leave the site there are miles of walks/cycle tracks within the immediate surrounds. Important to keep as a secret gem.
