What we really wanted was peace & quiet...................

What we really wanted was peace and quiet and a relaxing weekend the reality was a little different This was our first visit to the site upon arrival the warden was not exactly falling over herself to give us any info about the site and really wasn't interested in a little idle chat Having finally selected a pitch it was down to work in trying to get the van level, looking around there wasn't anyone without levellers including the hard standings albeit they all appear to be of a good proportion The walk in the woods was pleasant enough but it was sooooooo noisy, this is a popular location for the local area and as such there are a lot of people who's voices seem to echo not just in the woods but all around the site, it was a kin to staying near a school (not the peace we had hoped for) Due to illness we decided to leave a night early, having no facilities on site meant there was no key or pass to return so we thought we would just let the wardens know we had decided to go home, no point as they weren't interested A nice local site for us but expensive for basic facilities and not a location we will return to

Another wonderful stay

Have just visited for the fourth time and spent 8 peaceful nights here. It is always somewhere to totally chill out, so peaceful and plenty of walks from the site so nice not to have to use the car as much. It has the advantage of the café at the entrance and play areas for the little ones at the café and just in the wooded area. There may not be enough for older children to do other than cycling the many safe paths in the woods. It has definitely become one of our favourite sites and hope to visit again soon. Also wishing the new wardens all the best they were very welcoming and friendly.

Bolt hole to sanity.

It takes us 15 minutes to drive to this site but on arrival we feel we have travelled right away from the hurly burly and relaxation arrives instantly. The site is quiet and well kept and so well placed within Rockingham Forest, lots of really good walks ranging from fairly easy to moderately strenuous. The new wardens have a hard act to follow and appear to be well up to the challenge, a lovely couple. We look forward to many more visits in the future.

It's so peaceful

Peaceful is how i would rate this site. Plenty of walks with the dog. Is close to Stamford, or going south not far from Corby. Its the second time i have visited this site. But you do have to watch with pitch you choose. Pitches look level, but not in all cases. Our back corners kept sinking into the ground. And we had blocks. Each time we went back to the caravan, it felt like we were sinking backwards. But apart from that, it was perfect.

Stunning autumn colours

The autumn colours of the trees surrounding the site were stunning.  A clean, well laid out site. Excellent care and advice given by the warden who worked hard to make our weeks visit a pleasant one. Daytime toilet facilities available at the nearby visitors centre. This also has a cafe, bike hire and an imaginative kids play area.

Peace and Quite

This was our second visit to this site and it was even better the second time around. We got what we think is the best pitch (not saying which one) and really enjoyed our 6 nights. There is plenty to do in the surround area with houses to visit, gardens and just good scenery. There is lots of wildlife including at night almost too many owls making a noise, but we loved it. Plenty or walks in the Forestry next door and the cafe does a good range of light bites if you get fed up of thinking of luches. We will be back!!!

If you go down in the woods today

youre sure of a big surprise....and we were. this is an excellent location with tons to do especially if you are into walking or cycling. Its great for kids too with a brilliant forestry commision centre next door, loads of play stuff and areas and a tree house in the woods. Cycle hire and a great cafe. The site itself is really well kept and very peaceful tucked into Fineshade woods. The shop is really well stocked and you can get nice food at the centre next door. the lack of toilets or showers is party compensated by facilities in the forestry centre. The area if full of places to visit , stately homes old churches so i can see 4-5 day visit could easilly be filled. Its great for dog walks and there are 2 villages with eating opportunities within 2 miles.

Superb break

I have used this site many times as did my nana nearly 30 years ago. Pete and Sue are lovely and make it all the more welcoming and special. The walks and bike routes are excellent for my twins. I just love the location and the upkeep of the site is excellent! !
