Perfect hosts

What lovely wardens. This couple looked after us from the minute we arrived until we left. We love this site as it is peaceful and situated next to a lovely wood which is great for the kids and dog to enjoy the fresh air, sights and sounds of nature. Although there is no toilet block, this has never stopped us from enjoying many weekends here over the years. We just hope the current wardens stay, as they are a lovely couple. Thank you for making our recent stay, that bit more perfect.

A Good Transit Site

We chose this site to break our journey up on Bank Holiday Sunday, as " late" arrivals to the weekend the choice of pitches were limited. The warden was very friendly and provided us with all the necessary details to permit us to settle down. The lack of facilities is unfortunate as this is in a lovely location for a longer stay. The atmosphere on the site was good, everyone enjoying the sun and the bank holiday break. The motorhome points were not particularly well located, especially the one next to the exit with the waste water disposal, we were waiting for the people in front to finish when I noticed we had created a car park for the people trying to get off site, I headed off back around the one way system to let them through. All said this is only a minor point. I would consider using the site again either as another overnight stop or a longer stay to explore the local walks. Beautiful location, clean and tidy with friendly staff, thank you.

Our stay

Stayed here over the bank holiday 28th April to 2nd may 2017 we were quiet surprised as read some of the feed back, it was not that nosiey just usual noise from the car park and children on the play park but only if you were pitched on the back row that was next to the parks. We were in the middle and heard nothing. Our only gripe is that the rubbish bins could do with being bigger or more bins at bank holiday time as full to overflowing. Apart from that we had a good stay....

Enjoyed my brief stay but will return.

Stopped here 12/13th April on my way to Lincoln and enjoyed it so much I returned on my way home. I was disappointed to read some of the reviews complaining about noise. Yes there were some children playing in the woods but how nice to see them occupied in healthy outdoor pursuits instead of in front of the gogglebox. Perhaps a little more give and take would be advisable? I heard no road noise at all and appreciated the excellent dog walking through the adjoining Rockingham forest. As already mentioned mobile phone reception is generally poor in the whole area and TV could be better but who cares when you are in such lovely countryside. The wardens were really friendly and helpful and should be very proud of their great site.

Just what we wanted

This is not a big site and it does not have toilet/shower facilities but it suited us and we found it attractive. The access is along a single track approach road but with numerous passing places and we didn't have any real problems. The site sits alongside a Forestry Commission car park, café and children's play area which was clearly quite busy over the Easter holidays but again this did not present us with any concerns and the site was very quiet in the evenings and at night. The woodland walks are good and numerous. As for TV, we found 117 channels and had a reasonable mobile signal (on O2). Our experience with the wardens was good - helpful, informative and available. The site was well maintained and was being improved during our visit. There is no site barrier but we didn't notice any "misuse" by "non-resident" visitors. All in all we enjoyed our stay (and stopped a further night!). We do think we'll stay again.

Like pitching in the car park?

Our first visit to a pretty location. It soon became apparent that this site is along side a busy car park and adventure playground, separated only by a very thin low hedge. Needless to say visitors to the forest have full view of all of the site and it's on goings. This was school holidays so these sorts of places are usually busy and this was no exception. The noise was unbearable at times both from the play area and from the woods where the noise of barking dogs seemed to carry. A degree of noise we expected but not the noise from the 'A' road just a couple of fields way. Whatever the time of day it was very noisy even though there wasn't too much traffic using it. Being in such a public place we were amazed by the lack of security on site - no barriers and only a blackboard at the gate reminding visitors that 'parking for members only' was allowed and an over flowing dog poo bin to ward off unwanted visitors. The site was pretty, good pitches of varying degrees of levels. Tv reception is quoted as fair but in our experience we didn't get the BBC ones, so if you visit go prepared! The club advertise that only some mobiles can be used - we are with EE, and only had a faint signal on site but it wasn't much better in the area generally. The wardens were lovely - the little we saw of them (- the office only opens for 3 short slots each day). Overall, we didn't really enjoy our stay, - this wasn't a site for us so we can see a return visit ahead.

Great site next to Country Park

This was my very first outing in a caravan EVER. Chose this site because it was in an ideal location. Stupidly I didn't realise it had no shower Block!!! BUT the warden was very helpful, made me and my grand-daughter feel at home. I had a couple of problems with the caravan and they helped me out no end. The site was ultra clean and well maintained. The pitches were pretty big especially without an awning. We arrived on a very sunny Sunday which meant that there was a lot of noise from the adjacent car park but this calmed down after a couple of hours. Loved this site and will return with working shower and toilet!!!

Clean site

Site nice & clean, didn't get chance to speak to male warden as only there 1 night, but female warden very pleasant, she certainly made freiends with our golden retriever with her 'treats' she always had handy. The road to the site needs addressing, but this is under the control of the local authority, perhaps the wardens could put a word in.

What we really wanted was peace & quiet...................

What we really wanted was peace and quiet and a relaxing weekend the reality was a little different This was our first visit to the site upon arrival the warden was not exactly falling over herself to give us any info about the site and really wasn't interested in a little idle chat Having finally selected a pitch it was down to work in trying to get the van level, looking around there wasn't anyone without levellers including the hard standings albeit they all appear to be of a good proportion The walk in the woods was pleasant enough but it was sooooooo noisy, this is a popular location for the local area and as such there are a lot of people who's voices seem to echo not just in the woods but all around the site, it was a kin to staying near a school (not the peace we had hoped for) Due to illness we decided to leave a night early, having no facilities on site meant there was no key or pass to return so we thought we would just let the wardens know we had decided to go home, no point as they weren't interested A nice local site for us but expensive for basic facilities and not a location we will return to
