Very friendly welcome, very chatty wardens & really helpful. Beautifully kept reception area. Lovely site easy access to local facilities. Burghley House was shut for filming so will have to revisit this site again 😊 The Collyweston Slater was not far, great pub with home made pie 🥧 Lyveden new bield National Trust site was worth the visit. So for me as a site a big thumbs up 👍
Simple, Basic site - a throwback to the 1980s
We've pretty much stopped using club sites since COVID and the subsequent dramatic increase in site fees. However, this site was in the right place for what we wanted to do and couldn't find a CL or adult only site with serviced pitches close by, so decided to stay here. It is a basic site with no toilet / shower block. That doesn't bother us as we always use our own facilities, but it does make it very expensive for what is on offer when a similar CL would be around £20 - £25 a night.
We had a serviced hard standing with awning pitch. It was **very** tight with our twin axle caravan and 3 metre wide awning, with only just enough space to get the car on the pitch. Didn't measure it, but we were over the grass at the back and had the A frame off the pitch area at the front, so maybe just 8m x 8m. I'd much prefer it if CAMC allocated pitches and then you wouldn't get small motor homes grabbing the largest serviced pitches (and then not using the services) while us traditonal caravanners with larger outfits are left squeezing onto a pitch that is barely adequate. Especially since they ask for unit dimensions when booking.
So, moans out of the way... The site is what you'd expect from a CAMC site: well cared for, tidy and with polite and friendly wardens. It's in a large forest, so plenty of opportunities for walking and taking dogs for a walk, etc. Stamford is close at hand and is well worth a visit - lots of shops, a good market and plenty of restaurants with a vibrant feel to the place. Corby is also close by, but sadly looks a little deprived and depressing with the loss of the steel industry, but it does have a large well stocked Tesco for supplies.
If you like historic buildings, Kirby Hall, near by, is well worth a visit.
Excellent site
We stayed here for a couple of nights, and highly recommend it for those wanting peace and quiet and great woodland walks. A very warm welcome when we arrived, and a good sized pitch.
We'll be back soon!

Fabulous site
A fabulous site,so peaceful. Lovely cafe right next door. Perfect location for the dog who loved the walks. I think the wood is one of the best I've walked round.
Would definitely visit again if we were closer.
Although I've put 5⭐ for facilities there aren't actually any facilities on the site (couldn't leave review without putting something in box). The grounds are very well maintained
A lovely weekend staying at Stamford Club campsite
Our first view at Stamford Club campsite. The single track road to the site as mentioned by others isn't a problem as there are plenty of passing places and although very bumpy isn't under the control of the site. Also a previously mentioned there's no toilet/shower block, however the forestry commission next door does have toilets so when you're all hitched up to leave and need that last minute visit before your journey home a quick 5 minute walk away there are public toilets - very handy.
We received a very nice welcome from the warden who was on his own so was very busy but did a sterling job. We went and found our pitch and came back later and was able to have a little chat then and he gave us some local info on walking routes etc which was great. The pitches are slightly sloped so take some levellers. We were allowed to park nose in which was our preference as we wanted to look at the trees rather than our fellow campers so that was great. There's approx 80 pitches and although the site was busy the only noises to be heard were the red kites calling to each other overhead which was wonderful.
Walking and cycling from the site was great. We did a couple of walks and cycled to Kings Cliffe which was a 5 mile round trip. Kings Cliffe has a bakers (not open Mondays), a pub and a Londis shop for provisions.
We visited Stamford (a friend recommended Lamberts for breakfast/lunch and its lovely, its down Cheyne Lane) , Burghley House (free to park and walk the parkland and have a cuppa, charges for house and formal gardens), Kirby Hall, Lyddington Bede House and The Welland viaduct which is an absolute 100% must do if you like things like that... which we do.
The site is so nicely placed, everything seemed to be within about 10 miles which is great. We would defintely go again.
Peaceful Site
Lovely looking site, very clean and tidy. Good access and reasonable room for an 8m caravan. Staff really helpful and friendly. Only stayed one night transiting from a French trip but will be back.
A Lovely Peaceful & Quite Club Site
This was our 1st visit to this club site and only 1-hour drive away, so our weekend stay was not eaten up with a long journey. It is a lovely peaceful and quiet site and has lovely paths for both dog walkers and cyclists within the Forestry Commission’s Fineshade wood next door, which has been well sign posted along the paths. We had our two eldest grandkids with us and they were never off their bike the whole weekend.
We loved it so much we have already booked a pitch for a late summer return with three of our eldest grandkids joining us.
The site was clean and tidy with the wardens both friendly and very informative. The site has no washroom facilities, but that just adds to the charm to the overall site. Some of the pitches have a distinct slope on them that would challenge even the best of your levelling devices.
A visit into busy Stamford is well worth it, with plentiful shops and eaters available as are the historical house and castles within the area.
REVIEW FINESHADE
Lovely site, very clean, quiet, relaxing. We stayed Sunday to Friday and loved it for the peace and quiet. Wardens were friendly and helpful and the site neat and tidy and doggy friendly. No loo's or showers, but that did not worry us. Approaching lane could be a problem with traffic in either direction, be prepared to reverse your caravan to a passing place The site has a cafe just around the corner and a little pet supplies shop too in what looks like converted farm buildings which was quite handy as the weather was very hot for our visit, and the ice cream was delicious !! Lots to do in surrounding area with wonderful villages/pubs/historic sites. We did the Land Rover experience full day and that was amazing.
Disappointingly the Fineshade woodland tracks all appear to be have been made into hardstanding and I booked a horse ride in the forest which for an experienced rider was disappointing as the forestry people appear to have completely forgotten that horse traffic made tracks in ancient times and nowadays they cater only for bicycles. Perhaps they should specifically allocate some grassy tracks for horseriders and not bicycles to restore a balance. A trip on the Rutland Belle is a fun experience, although we did not have the time to do one of their specialist excursions. Make sure you go to the right place to embark, we accidentally missed it and had a hurried, but pleasant one mile walk around the lake to catch the boat. Certainly we would use this site again. Perfectly located site, very well kept.
Stay: Sun 30 April - Sun 7 May 2023
Two adults, 1 dog
Perfectly located site, very well kept. The Wardens were very friendly and helpful. It was the weekend of the Kings Coronation and they made a lovely effort to decorate and came round to each pitch with drinks (there were plans to meet up but it rained). There were no toilet/shower facilities (as advertised) but that wasn't an issue for us. There was a dog wash which was very useful. We enjoyed lots of circular walks of varying abilities directly from the site through Finshades Wood. One evening we walked through the woods to The Royal Oak, Duddington (40mins) and had a beautiful meal. Highly recommend! Another day we walked the longer trail to Kingscliffe where we had lunch at Crosskeys Inn, this was your 'typical pub grub'. The Forestry England Visitor Centre was just a stone throw away from the site where there was a lovely little café and pet shop. I believe there is usually bicycle hire from the Centre however, this was shut for refurbishment. We visited Rutland Water for the day (20min drive) for some more walking (note:dogs on lead) and enjoyed lunch at the Waterside Café before taking the boat from Normanton back to the car parked at Whitwell. There was plwnty more todo and I wish we'd have had more time. Overall we had a very pleasant and enjoyable stay and will more definitely be back.
Lovely site
We have been coming here for years a lovely site and very helpful wardens , there are a few new hardstanding but the old ones look very tired and need new stones on them and it's ashame a lot of trees have been cut down as you are very overlooked by the car park .
There is lovely walks from the site and a cafe and pet shop next door .
Plenty to see and do at Stamford it is not very far away lovely quaint town with plenty of places to eat and shop , Burghley House is not far from Stamford where you can walk around the grounds and watch the deer or walk by the river or have something to eat or browse around the gift shop , Rutland Water is not far beautiful walks by the water and we had a good meal at the Waterside Cafe , and Corby is worth a visit
