Just spent 3 nights At Stamford Club Site for the first time.... And what a Gem it was!! The wardens Paul & Gill were lovely, friendly and welcoming the site is very clean and tidy the pitches are well kept and maintained. I can safely say it won't be our last visit here, we are sad to be leaving and wished we would have stayed longer.
.The site is peaceful and tranquil the wooded area around the site is teaming with wildlife and has some good walking paths. Stamford is well worth a visit, it's a Picturesque town which has plenty shops to browse around. We followed Paul's advise for fish n chips from the Riverside fish restaurant and a mister whippy ice cream from the ice cream van near the bridge near the River. If your visiting Stamford.... Make sure you visit the Nook (as recommended by Paul) a lovely shop that my wife loved. The DIY shop near there is an Aladins cave and has everything. The wood fired pizzas onsite are delicious so make sure you try them. Thankyou for a lovely weekend.... We will definitely be coming back and will be looking to stay for longer next time.
Great for a short break
We have just spent four nights at the site. We really liked the fact that we could walk into the woods from the site. The cafe nearby was a welcome rest stop for coffee and cake. We walked to Kings Cliffe, with a very interesting main street, and ate at the Cross Keys. We cycled to Edith Weston and back, not too hilly for our doggy trailer! And it's a handy place for visiting Stamford by using the local Call Connect bus. We prefer to leave our motorhome on site and use local transport but this site is not well placed for bus routes, and the Call Connect service is fairly limited. Covid sickness resulted in our return from Stamford being cancelled, so we had to get a much more expensive taxi back to site. Overall, it was a lovely break but when we visit the area again we plan to come by car and stay in other accommodation.
Perfect quiet spot!
Beautifully kept, quiet, great walks direct from your van. Friendly helpful staff. We only stayed a short while but we will be back for longer
Helpful wardens, tidy site, but bad luck struck
Booked 3 nights as one of the few Club Sites available at short notice over the busy Easter period. Chosen as looked peaceful set amongst the trees and as no facilities thought it would attract others seeking some tranquillity. Although we'd booked hardstanding I think there was only one hardstanding pitch left when we arrived (just after 1pm), but fortunately the grass was dry and seems to drain well in most areas. The wardens were really helpful and welcoming at check in and were in evidence keeping the site tidy and maintained. Unfortunately the pitch we chose turned out to be next to a family seeking a different experience to ourselves, playing 'dance' music outside and repeatedly having to shout at their dog (which they kept untethered) to come back. So no chance to just listen to the natural world and watch the numerous Red Kites flying overhead. I think that noise intolerance and irritability may be a symptom of early Covid, as the following morning I felt unwell and tested positive. As a result we were forced to pack up and return home after just the one night. I think this site would suit families with children looking to explore/ride bikes in the woods, or people happy to just walk their dogs in the woods or to nearby villages. A good base for the area also. Bear in mind one side of hardstanding is next to the busy public carpark so wouldn't suit those wanting to sit outside in peace during the day.
Loved it
What a gem , a well kept peaceful site with friendly helpful wardens. Weather not great spent the time watching the wildlife.
Good walks from site and excellent cafe unfortunately all closed because of the wind .
Hope to find the time to come again
Here as a couple so difficult to comment if it’s good for families.
A very relaxing and welcoming club site worthy of several visits
A very tranquil and very well cared for site hidden within Fineshade Woods with fabulous access to local walks and nearby villages, however do come prepared to walk, cycle or take your camper out for everyday provisions as the nearest pub is a good walk away. The wardens Gill and Paul will look after you superbly and help out as much as they can to help you enjoy your stay. Stamford is beautiful as is Rutland Water along with the local walks you’ll have so much choice to enjoy a full number of days. We’ll be back if only to chat with Paul or visit the Cross Keys in Kingscliffe !
Exceeded our expectations
Don't be fooled into thinking that this site is actually in Stamford because it isn't, its about a 20 minute drive away. For us it didn't matter as we are in a caravan so have a car, but if you are in a motorhome there are limited things to do within walking distance. But if walking is your thing then Fineshade Woods are on your doorstep (literally), fantastic for dogs and children with the Gruffalo Trail to be enjoyed by all, you can then relax in their coffee shop next to the site. Stamford itself is lovely with a wonderful artisan market which we thoroughly enjoyed. Site easy to find, well kept and when we were there very peaceful. We loved the area and will be back for longer next time.
Lovely quiet site
Our 2nd stay here this year, I was surprised at how quiet it was in early October especially as the discount made it just over £56 for 2 adults mid week. The site is well cared for, wardens had closed the grass pitches ready for closing but plenty of hardstanding to choose from. Lovely friendly greeting on arrival. Fineshade woods have numerous walks with a coffee shop. Looking forward to returning this year.
Completely Peaceful
A beautiful site, very well-kept (although no toilet or wash facilities), completely peaceful and very dog friendly. Lots of walks in the nearby forest and a lovely coffee shop in the visitor centre. Cheerful, helpful wardens who worked hard to maintain high standards.
Nearby Stamford is a short drive and well worth a visit for shopping, coffee shops and even Waitrose. We had a thoroughly relaxing break here and will definitely return.
Our getaway for peace and quiet site.
We stay here quite often. It's a lovely site for peace and quiet and relaxing woodland walks. The Wardens are really pleasant and helpful. The site is becoming a little tired and could do with more hard standings but that aside, this is a lovely site in idyllic settings with Forestry Visitor Centre and Cafe just outside the Site Gates.
