GREAT WEEKEND

A great three days one of the best sites around weather was fair we did have sun lovely sunset over southport Monday night, I enjoy this site every time I come back wardens are great facilities are clean some things are out of there hands like weather and nature 5 stars from me.

A 'Not Well Managed' Site

Our first visit to this, one of the few remaining sites we have not visited on the CaMC network. As others have said it is a great location with many attractions nearby or a short drive away… A site which caters for everyone and of all abilities. Unfortunately it is not a well managed site, or at least not on our visit. As previous review mentioned, I too did get the feeling the Wardens wished they were elsewhere. I don’t know when the Regional Manager last visited, perhaps there is a ‘support’ issue. Apart from the various maintenance issues around the site….a priority should be given to a remedy for the ‘Watership Down’ area. It was impossible not to notice that some of the inhabitants were suffering from Myxomatosis. Fortunately at this time of year there are not many flying insects which would almost certainly have been in contact with the rabbit and potentially transmit to an unsuspecting human…alarmingly the many children who frequent this site. Otherwise, this could be the site for those members who like a ‘relaxed’ attitude towards site rules…you know the ones most of us adhere too. No problem with the 6m rule, you can ignore the pitch marker by giving a plausible excuse to the Warden…Children can also cycle/scooter around the toilet block area and ignore the 5mph sign on roadways, even in full view of the CCTV camera….If you have a dog(s) they will love the freedom of running around site ‘off lead’ and defecating tow bar covers. A I said earlier, ‘A site for everyone’..

Pleasant site

Site was fine, toilets immaculate, wardens friendly. Easy, short walk into Southport town centre. The town itself must have been glorious in its heyday with its stunning Victorian architecture. Bit tired now but all the more reason to visit and spend some money in the shops and cafes. Very friendly locals. Lastly, I’m puzzled by some of the comments about road noise at times. The site is in a town!

Disappointing this time around

On arrival trying to site the caravan,got shouted at by a warden for not parking up quickly enough,we had already let four vehicles pass! Gents toilet door faulty and continually slamming,reported the issue,nothing done,someone hooked the door open,so the wardens removed the hook,it didn't make for a peaceful holiday. We go away to get away from noise not to be subjected to it 24/7. Very unhelpful wardens,you felt as if they didn't want to be there. We love this site and have had some wonderful times staying there, have had some simply wonderfully helpful and friendly wardens but sadly not on this occasion. Plenty of places to visit,Speke Hall and Formby Point well worth a visit. Ideal for cyclists. Love this site it caters for everyone.

Bit disappointing

On arrival I was met by a very grumpy female warden who very sharply asked me if that vehicle running was mine and said turn it off now, extremely rude it really upset me as she could of asked in a nicer way. Other members were not asked to do the same by the other warden. The site its self was in easy reach of Southport. We did visit the Fisher mans Rest for tea one night and I can recommend the food was lovely. The toilets and showers on site were up to the usual standard and kept clean. TV reception is terrible it is about time a booster system was installed. Phone signal terrible too. Lots of noise from nearby roads and at times it felt like someone was racing up and down. Whilst we were there my husband was bitten to death by some kind of insect and after several weeks still has the bites and 2 lots of antibiotics later we weren't sure whether something from the park had bitten him when walking the dogs. I feel that Southport as a town is rather run down in parts. The fun fair looks tatty and in need of a lick of paint.

Beware of biteing insects.

My wife and I have stayed at Southport Club Site on numerous occasions previously. Its a fantastic site in a super location and we have always been impressed with the friendly, helpful staff and the cleanliness of the site and facilities. However on this occasion we had booked to stay on the weekend of the Southport Air Show. The air show was excellent as it always is but we and other guests couldn't help but notice the number of diseased and dying rabbits that seemed to be all over the site. It was pitiful to see these poor animals suffering in such a way. We actually saw other guests pick up dead rabbits and remove them, although we never saw any of the site staff removing them. The rabbits have always been one of the more endearing sights when you arrive, as they are out feeding all day within feet of you. but to see them like this was heart-breaking. What's more, in the evening when we were sat out enjoying a drink and the late evening sunshine, unknown to us we were being bitten by what looked like mosquitoes, these insects must have been feeding on the diseased rabbits and then biting us and other guests. That evening it became very apparent that these insect bites were not like anything that we had encountered before, I personally had suffered six seriously infected bites which, after our stay, needed treating with antibiotics, antihistamines and antiseptic cream, whilst a friend who we were sat chatting to that evening, ended up in such a state that she had to attend A&E after being bitten 16 times. We were due to go back and stay again for the musical fireworks display, however we have now cancelled this booking and we wont be going back until we are sure that the problem with the rabbit population is sorted out. I am making an appeal to all the Southport site staff, who must be aware of the issue. Please work to get this problem sorted before someone with a weakened immune system, for what ever reason, is affected and may need hospital treatment or worse. Alexpari.

Annual visit as good as ever.

We try to get to Southport at least once a year and made it this time in August. The site was busy, it being the end of the main school holidays, but with no adverse effects. The Wardens kept the site and the toilet blocks looking good and very clean, thanks! The Botanic Gardens, Churchtown, a short cycle ride away, were looking splendid, a riot of colour. Visited The Atkinson Centre, Lord Street, for the first time and will be going back for more! Well worth a visit - https://www.theatkinson.co.uk/ - Sundays bring a hive of activity in the park to the rear of the site, with model boats, model trains and 10th scale electric buggies all active. Good to see! Only downside was the Victoria Park was closed off as workers cleared away after the flower show, so no short cut into town. Once again, an enjoyable few days - 'till the next time!

First time visit

On arrival we were met by two smiling and friendly wardens, did the business and gently rode around the site looking primarily for a bit of tree shelter as the forecast was for strong gusts of wind throughout the week, so chose a perimeter pitch. Very clean tidy site along with the usual top form amenity buildings. There are a couple of public footpaths through the site but nothing untoward occurred and these led straight out onto the dunes, which was ideal for our dog walk. Whilst there were no poo bins outside of the site they were provided on entry when returning. We walked into the town centre most days, about a 3 mile return trip and there is quite a nice large street market lining Lord street on weekend days. We managed to stray into a no cycle area with our bikes (lack of signage) on one occasion, with some official shouting, waving and running after us but the electric bikes were excellent in aiding our escape, much to his dismay. Recommended for a bit of everything whether you walk, cycle, with dog or without and an abundance of eating places on offer along Lords street.

Another lovely weekend but sadly spoiled by local council attitude -dog owners beware!

This is our 3rd or 4th visit this year as we love the site and the location. There was a friendly and efficient welcome from staff who keep the site beautifully and the floral ‘displays are very pretty. Sadly our visit was spoiled when we visited Hesketh Park on our way home Tuesday. Would normally visit the Botanic Gardens as that’s a perfect place for a short dog walk and a bit of lunch. Having never visited this park before we parked up on the road and entered through the south side, checking the noticeboard display at the entrance. As this said ‘dog off lead zone’ we let out little one of the lead and walked 25 meters or so down to the lake, only to be met by an ‘enforcement’ officer who promptly ‘read us our right’ under a caution and issued us with a £75 fixed penalty notice for not having the dog on the lead. So we spent 10 minutes in the park where there are no notices to tell you when you are crossing the invisible line into the ‘dogs in 2 metre leads’ area and are now faced with paying a penalty against which there is no right of appeal. We retraced our steps to check if we had missed a map/notice etc..,we hadn’t, but apparently there’s a map near the café...not much use to us as we didn’t have our binoculars. I emailed the council but they won’t change their minds, say it was publicised in ‘Locals papers, fat lot of use that is for first time visitors. Sadly it’s left a nasty taste and was very upsetting so I’m afraid that will be our last visit to Southport for some time. So be aware and if you want to visit a local park try the Botanic Gardens...they have clear signs there.

A great site

We stayed in August 2019. This was our second time at the superb site and everything was in really good condition, the toilets were very clean, the grass kept nicely cut. The staff in reception were friendly and welcoming. The site is a short walk from a Park & Ride and the return bus fare into Southport is £2 for two people. This makes it a really handy place to stay. Southport has good bus and train links to other local places including Liverpool and Manchester. We enjoyed our time there and have booked again for next spring.
