We have stayed at this site and many occasions. It is a great site and the wardens are fantastic. We have normally stayed in the Spring or Summer so it was very different in February. We had a very wet and windy two day stop. Despite this we had a good time and managed a number of walks. There was lots of floods and surface water around. The new area of the site and toilet block was closed. That was not a problem. The paths into Victoria Park were under water and the road at the front of the site was under water. So to exit the site on foot and for dog walking meant you had to wade through water. Once on the park it was dry. The main disappointment, which was a surprise, is the lack of dog friendly cafes and pubs in the town. We had hoped to visit the Fishermen's only to be told dogs are not allowed in the pub when they serve food. Despite the above we will return

Great location for southport and access to local travel

A great location to access Southport. Southport is great for eating out and nightlife. With gates directly into Victoria Park, it’s a lovely walk through to town. Morrison’s (10 mins away) is nearby, and on the way into Southport. Birkdale is about 20 mins walk and has lots to offer for a village. Southport is easily accessible from here by foot or train. There are Sandhills on the opposite side of access road for dog walks and a longer track to Ainsdale, Freshfield and Formby can be picked up from Weld Road. Catch the train back to Southport. Victoria Park often has limited access due to private events being held. In winter the walk into town is unlit and a good torch advisable. We have stayed on various areas of the site at different times of the year. The facilities have been excellent and up to club standards. However, when there in November, the new, lower field was flooded and many pitches unusable. If you want a club site with easy access to all amenities, this one is perfect.

Spoilt by inconvenient access to conveniences

Very good location for a site, as Southport is a short walk and had excellent rail links to Liverpool and Blackpool. Southport itself is a very pleasant town. The site itself has a middle area, which has mature trees and bushes and has the nicest pitches. It is the furthest from the facilities, but the pitches on the left of reception are in a long line and the new area is a bit of a windswept wasteland, which will probably improve once things start growing. The main let down is the yomp from pitches 30 and 31 to the new loos. There is no close access to the ladies from where we were pitched. The block is almost completely fenced in, so women have to walk all the way round to the well placed male facilities entrance, and then retrace their steps all the way back around the front of the building to the ladies door. There are a number of signs asking people (they would be the females) not to climb over the fence. There would be no need for these signs had there been a path to the door. Unfortunately, a serviced pitch was sited where a path should have been. Extremely annoying especially in the dark. Must have been deigned by a man.

A GREAT WEEKEND IN SOUTHPORT

I was like, JojoChambers, a little apprehensive about visiting this site due to some of the reviews. But I'm so glad I ignored them and booked a two night stay. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, the wardens were on hand to assist and were always pleasant to deal with. The facilities were fantastic and kept spotlessly clean. The site is well set out and in a great location for visiting this area. Yes there was some standing water but not a problem and no surprise given the amount of rain we've had. A good walk into the Town Centre but manageable for most. It's a long time since we've been to Southport and had forgotten what it has to offer. We hired bikes from the Eco Centre on Saturday afternoon and really enjoyable ride around. The bikes are a little old and need a bit of tlc but worked perfectly well for us. Definitely recommend this site and will be visiting again without a doubt.

Underwater!

We have just returned from our 4th visit to Southport site and our 1st time pitch on the fairly recent extended side. I have mixed feelings about it, lots of positives, a few negatives. Positives are that the newer side to this wonderful site is that it is bright and airy and the pitches are huge and well spaced. Now the negatives. It has been wet, very wet in many places and the newer side suffers badly with many pitches either completely underwater or in part. The grassy areas also, in fact, we did wonder whether club had invested in a new lake feature. On arriving we were not forewarned about the lack of pitch availability due to flooding by the wardens, nor the risk of further flooding on some pitches. We were not advised that to plug in to EHU, we would have to put wellies on to access the electric points. We did find a pitch that was dry in the main but wet around the edges but decided against leaving items we would usually store under the van out as rain was expected and we didn't want any items ruining if the pitch flooded. To access most pitches you had to either walk or drive through flooded areas. The drainage really does need sorting. It seems poor value for money when pitch choice is at a minimum due to the flooded areas. There were at least 10 pitches out of action and many more with some standing water on them. Another negative was that the lovely facilities on the new side were cold. If there was any heating on it was minimal compared to the facilities on the older part of the site which were toasty warm. Lastly, having enjoyed a lovely walk out, called at reception for some milk to be told there wasn't any. Yes, the supermarkets are within easy reach of the site but we had been out for a couple of hours, didn't want to carry shopping and assumed wrongly that basics would be available at reception. We made do with our supplies, that was fine but just wanted to warn others that there are no basics available to buy on site and therefore come well stocked up or be prepared to find the shops. We had a lovely weekend apart from the flooding, no milk and cold facilities and will visit again as we think it's location is great.

Great Site

I.must admit I was a bit apprehensive driving North to this site from Bristol after reading some of the less than positive reviews here. It was a great site though! Wardens were friendly and welcoming. We stayed on the old part of the site and it was really peaceful. It's a easy walk through Victoria Park into town and direct access to an extensive cycling path network from.the site. Short walk to the pier and promenade area. Facilities were clean and well maintained as expected. We stayed 5 nights, there's lots to do and see in the area so we'll be back! Recommended.

Two halves

The site facilities, staff, and general surounds are up to the high club standards.. BUT... Whereas in the old part of the site you feel you are on holiday the new part of the site IMO is an aesthetic disaster area Who would choose to go for a break in a waterlogged car park come sevice station area. If the club has anything about it it should be talking to members and landscape gardeners to improve the ambiance of the new site soonest!!!

Lovely Autumnal weekend away

Arrived late on Friday night just as we were losing the daylight. Booked in at reception and were directed to a selection of pitches. We had been warned that the empty pitches that had cones on them denoted they were liable to flood. With this in mind we pitched up at the far end of the newer part of the site. The pitch was fantastically flat, and we were soon settled in for the night. We did a quick tour of the site on foot to give the dogs a chance to stretch their legs. On Saturday we took a leisurely stroll in to town (about 15 -20 minutes walk away). We walked in to town through Victoria Park, past the boating lake, and the gardens. Despite it being out of season the place was well kept. The club site is also handily placed for the Morrison's supermarket. Southport was lovely and picturesque and this was definitely helped by the late Autumn sunshine, we wandered the length of Lord Street, through the numerous arcades and pedestrian shopping areas, and rested up with a coffee in a pavement cafe. We stopped for a late lunch in The Cheshire Lines Inn, and had an absolutely brilliant meal. It is well worth a jaunt off the beaten track. We headed back to the site via a lap of the lake and gardens. We were impressed with the toilet block, immaculately clean and with enough showers, wash basins, and toilets. One point to note that the site is adjacent to the coast road and some car noise is to be expected. We enjoyed our weekend break so much that we have booked to return between Christmas and New Year, and also next September to coincide with the Air show. All in all a great weekend break, in a lovely Victorian town.
