A bit scruffy

Great location and the staff were friendly and polite, however there was a lot of long grass around the site that made it look untidy. I understand covid restrictions, but this should not stop grass cutting. The grass between pitches had been cut, but in other areas the grass was knee deep.

This is my favourite CAMC site!

This is our 4th stay in the last 12 months and we never tire of the place. With current COVID restrictions we have been met by the same friendly warden at the entrance on the last 2 occasions. All the wardens are very pleasant and helpful though it has to be said. Check in is always seamless and smooth. We love that if you so choose you can park up and not move your car again till its time to leave. There are excellent dog walks, easy access to the beach, Victoria Park with access direct from the site and a park and ride for getting into town. There is a morrisons supermarket about half a mile away which is always well stocked. And half a mile in the other direction into Birkdale is a cracking pub for food (the Fishermans Rest). The site is always well maintained and kept clean and you often see the wardens buzzing about keeping on top of everything. If I was to complain about anything it is the same two things as at every site. I wish other users would follow the well signed and posted COVID guidelines (how difficult is it to pick up a wristband and put it on a hook) and I wish the Wifi was better but I know CAMC are addressing this across sites. Again this is absolutely our favourite local site, spot on for weekend getaways and look forward to returning again soon.

First Visit

This was our first visit to Southport and we were pleasantly surprised The arrival procedure for Covid compliance was smooth considering how many units were queuing to get on site. Our pitch was on the newer part of the site which we really liked with its open aspect and the fact that the central grass area was being allowed to grow attracting plenty of wildlife. although there was some road noise it wasn't intrusive to us. The facilities were clean and social distancing was in place and we felt safe. A good location for visiting National Trust at Speke Hall, Formby and Crosby to mention but a few and brilliant cycling paths well signed and various routes, and walks too. Very easy for super markets - Morrisons being within walking distance. All in all a great new find for us and we will return

A great site in a great location.

We visited for four nights from 13th June. Admittedly we were blessed with good weather which always makes sites more attractive than rain-sodden weather, but we were so impressed that we will definitely be returning. A nice, clean and friendly site so close to the beach, park Southport and Birkdale and with good links into Liverpool by public transport. The walk down Rotten Row into Southport takes you past the famous herbaceous borders which are beautifully looked after by volunteers and are well worth a visit in their own right. Just up the road from the campsite you can walk down into Birkdale where you find an array of cafes and restaurants as well as the Fishermen's Rest Pub. All in all, the site is a great place to stay.

Poor customer care

Stayed over bank holiday recently and booked for 4 nights. We checked in and went to find a pitch. We discovered one marked with a sticker as disabled - my wife has a blue badge so we were thankful for this. I also have a heart condition so being close to the facilities was a bonus. I started to setup and my wife rang the two mobile numbers we were given so we could pay and advise them what number we were pitched on. She had to leave a message on the numbers but eventually we were concerned as we did not receive a call back off she set to reception whilst I finished setting up the awning. She returned minutes later saying we had to move as someone else had booked this pitch! - I never knew this was possible - but in spite of her pleas we were told to move. I undid all the last two hours work to leave this pitch for someone that arrived without blue badges and staying just two nights !!!!!The Scottish chap in charge would not listen to our argument so we had to move. My wife was in tears as we once again set up - how I did so I don’t know as I was now struggling for any strength with no offer of help forthcoming. We were so dissapointed that we cut short by one day and would have left immediately had we not had our grandson with us. I did raise a complaint to the CAMC but they seem to have chosen to ignore that- maybe they only accept “good reviews” Poor management and poor customer care all round.

Road noise

At the bottom of the new area on the site is a very busy main road. We found the road noise intrusive during the day and well into the evening.

Just a great site

Well literally just back, we took the opportunity of a late booking living relatively close by. Weather was glorious and so was the site facilities and staff. Nothing to comment on as all was positive. The site backs onto Victoria Park and a steady stroll into the town centre. We enjoyed the chill and watching the local wildlife flit around the site (not the hoodies or yoofs... this is Southport!). Definitely on our watch list for a quick get away in future.

Great Base for Liverpool and Southport

Arrival: Met by a very well organised Scotsman who frankly had a very difficult job. (When we left the check-in queue for first daily admissions was around 40 rigs long and back to the traffic island). He gave us a very warm welcome and it was clear that complying with Covid rules was high on the agenda, especially as the site was almost at full capacity. Well explained and we were under the barrier hunting for a pitch within a few minutes. Payment: Once we had the pitch we rang one of 2 numbers to pay over the phone. We were advised payment had gone through and we could collect paperwork which was bundled up with a receipt and our gate fob and WC block keys. Whilst pitched: 95% plus of guests behaved and observed rules, the forgetful other 5% only breached in minor ways. Slight noise around Pitch 25 at the junction, and near to the motorhome points and exit gate which became congested at certain times of day, but not to the point of distraction. Blocks were clean and compliant. Felt very safe. Nearby, much to do cycling, walking, for the kids, nearby Liverpool is a must "Albert Dock and Liverpool 1". Spoilt for dining out on and near Lord Street, and along prom. Nearby Morrisons supermarket - all walking distance. Leaving: Drop the keys in a box and go!! Loved the site and will return, again with bicycles for more of the nearby routes.

Perfect for everyone

We made this our first site to visit as there are lots of cycling and walking routes directly from site. It really is the perfect site for families, couples, lone travellers, those wanting all the attractions or those wanting a quiet break. The staff were some of the jolliest we’ve ever encountered. ‘Another day in paradise’ was regularly heard being sung during the daily ‘bin runs’. We were on pitch 85, a side facing pitch on the strip. We loved it. Nice quiet spot with the sun, and yes there was plenty of that, all day long. For cyclists there are off road routes all the way to Crosby. It probably goes further but a 27 mile round trip was enough for us. In the other direction there’s the RSPB reserve at Marshside. Free entry with a small charge for car parking. There are a number of walking routes from site and the park and ride is just outside the site. Southport itself is ideal for families, although we preferred Birkdale a short walk in the opposite direction for eating out. Follow our travels on Facebook Live, Love, Laugh and Travel.
