What's going on ?

Visited this site many times over the years from when our kids were kids. We were there over the August bank holiday and was only half full , this site as without doubt got to be one of the best on the network , so we're is every one. I think the ferry prices have to be a concern for what they quote , so if your thinking of going book through the club it's far more cost effective . The wardens are a credit to the club they work so hard are very friendly and sociable , the place is amaculate. Didn't want to come home, so come on members support this site it defenatly deserves it. Well done to all on southlands .

Superb, peaceful, clean and friendly...

What's not to like at Southland's. Living on the Island we already know the UK's best kept secret. This site is excellent and made all the more welcoming by the lovely, helpful and attentive Wardens. What a credit to the club and campers too. Great walking and sightseeing all around. Pedlars café (If you can find it) is well worth a visit, and the Pointers Inn serve excellent food in a great environment. All in all, a brilliant advertisement for the wonderful Isle of Wight. The only enhancements would be a pool and perhaps a small shop or eatery. One for the future perhaps? You'll not be disappointed at Southland.

Great Site in a Great Place

There are a lot of positives about this site. We spent 2 weeks here and loved it. It was fairly quiet (but I think that it has been impacted by the increased ferry costs) and there was plenty of space around. The facilities are absolutely spotless and the Wardens do a fantastic job of keeping the site up and running - very professional, helpful and very friendly and approachable. They are a credit to the Club. Pitches are large and some are secluded, being separated by hedgerows. You are never far from water and waste facilities and there is a great playground for the children. There is a dog walk (which I'll come back to) which has some superb views and is long enough to exercise your dog. All in all, a great site on the fantastic Isle of Wight (which has to be one of the best UK holiday destinations - at least for us anyway). Coming back to the dog walk. I cannot understand the number of dog owners that were allowing there dogs to either foul other member's pitches or foul the dog walk. I walked my dog each day and would never allow her to foul another pitch. If she founded on the dog walk, it was always collected but the number of members that did not collect dog waste was unacceptable. I took extra bags each day to collect other dogs waste but gave up in the end. I spoke to the Wardens who were also getting tired of this happening. On the other matter, with a long dog walk and an abound of places to exercise dogs I cannot understand members putting dogs on extendable leads for the purpose of allowing their dogs to foul on other pitches. I had to complain about this at another site, but, if some dog owners don't become more responsible, they will ruin it for the rest of us.  Other than that, you won't find a better site.

You can't get better

We spent 2 weeks here this August - fantastic weather and a fantastic site. I cannot find any faults whatsoever with the site. It is beautifully landscaped with good pitches and the facilities are spotlessly clean without hardly being closed for cleaning.  There are lots of showers and toilets and with loads of room. The wardens were always there when needed and were amazingly friendly without being pushy. The Isle of Wight is one of the best holiday destinations in the UK - if you haven't been for a while - go again. Southlands is just in the right area. Caravan Club arranged the ferry and everything worked like clockwork.

Fantastic Site

This is our 2nd visit to this site and this time we stayed for 3 weeks. The toilets are spotlessly clean and the site is well maintained. They have a good play area and a grass area to play ball games etc. The site is about 10 minutes from Sandown and Shanklin but the whole of the island is easy to travel round as the traffic is not to bad and we stayed in peak season. There's lots of nice beaches as well as places to visit. Our children are 6 and 11 and both love it here. The site was not full which l think is due to the ferry cost, out of season they have lots of good offers but unfortunately not for families in peak season!

Brilliant holiday

We have had 12 nights of wall to wall sunshine here on the Isle of Wight. A wonderful holiday. Cowes week fireworks were spectacular and a must see if you're on the island for cowes week. Osbourne house and the needles well worth s visit too, The site at Southlands is fantastic, immaculately kept grass, conifers and pitches. The showers and laundry and pot wash area were always clean and spotless, fabulous showers nice and warm. Wardens were very friendly and helpful and always smiling. I don't have a bad word to say about the place. It's worth having s good drive round before deciding on a pitch as there are so many, it wasn't that busy either. Had a lovely walk one evening up to the Pointer inn, lovely food but book a table in advance as it's always busy. Travelled over on red funnel ferries booked through the caravan club at a reasonable price of £135 in August. I will most definitely return to the Isle of Wight as there is so much to see and do and the people are so friendly and it's nowhere near as busy as Devon/Cornwall in August and with a huge number of beaches you have plenty to choose from

A very enjoyable 2 weeks

We have just enjoyed 2 weeks on this site, a really good stay, the site wardens were all very friendly and the site was well run and very clean. We have a 3,6,7 year old children and they really enjoyed the site with the children enjoying the play area and field for football. The site is not far from the 'Sunshine loop' which is a good off road cycle route and the pub in the village was very good for eating - book early. It was quite windy throughout our stay, difficult to know if this is normal or not but the high hedge lines on the grass pitches suggest so, it didn't spoil our stay. The island was a real gem for a young family and we will definitely be back. A mop + bucket in the kids bathroom and a table tennis table (indoor or out) would be welcome additions

Fantastic Site

We have just returned home from a 10 night stay at this site with a tourer. The site is very peacefull but only 10 mins drive from Sandown of Shanklin. The site is spotless and clean and the Wardens very friendly and helpfull, we couldn't have asked for anything more. But to our suprise the site was not full, we put this down to the ferry costs, but dont be put off because ore inital quote from Red Funnel was £350 return, we than contacted the Caravan Club who arranged our ferry booking and the cost was only £120 return crossing. We will for sure be returning to this site.

What a gorgeous site

We have just returned home after 15 nights at Southlands and wish we could go back tomorrow. We have stayed on a number of CC sites and all of them have been very good but few, if any, have bettered Southlands. The site is kept in a spotless condition with all hedges and grassed areas well maintained. We stayed on a hardstanding pitch and the size was very generous with more than adequate room for a car, awning and a seating area. It is located on the outskirts of the lovely village of Newchurch and is ideal for visiting Shanklin and Sandown to the south and Newport & Cowes to the north. Due to its rural location the site is very tranquil and there is an excellent children's play area just behind some of the grass pitches. The staff were pleasant and courteous and we wish to register our particular thanks to Martin for mending our rotary clothes line - he did a superb job. We went to the Pointer (Newchurch) for meals on 3 occasions and would definitely recommend it as the food was excellent and the portions were generous. You can walk to the place from the site, a leisurely 10 minute walk is all it takes. We also had a couple of meals in the Fighting Cocks and were not disappointed once. Just one word of caution, if you arrive from East Cowes ignore your SatNav if it tries to take you 1st left after the Fighting Cocks - ensure you take the 2nd left. Unhesitatingly we would recommend Southlands, there is every reason to go and no reason for not going.
